@@xonnathagreat7644 I would say it was close not that he was winning, had porter got the last two rounds it could have been a draw or he maybe edges it depending on scorecards. I didn't like the stoppage at all.
@@shawnnyc100able Yeah. All three judges had Crawford up by a round at the time of the stoppage. In a round where a fight is stopped, you have to score that round. So, it was a 10-7 round for Crawford, which means that Porter was up, going into round 10. The stoppage was bizarre to say the least.

Point is (to those who are saying other wise) when you get knocked down and you're hitting the floor you're only showing frustration and not that you're defeated Shawn and his dad would of spoke about this fight and Kenny would of known that this would be his retirement fight and yet he stops it like that? After being so close on the cards? Yeah OK Crawford is slick and tough but porter showed no signs of quitting no signs of "I just want this fight to be over" he only showed fatigue (frustration on knock down) and the blood that showed was cause of a clash of headbutts right? Not saying porter would win but who knows? How we know way the thiefs/judges seen It? How we know Crawford wouldn't walk into a button presser like Pac/Marquez 4? Point is that porter deserved to see the fight through especially his last fight!.
His dad did the right thing. As a father and a very small time/small town boxing trainer training his own son to box amateur I have nothing but respect for Kenny stopping this fight when he did.

Kenny absolutely did the right thing. Shawn can now go on and have a good commentary career, or whatever else.
People have to realize Bud is a sharp shooter, those punches do serious damage. Those lil shape sneaky body punches he was landing broke Porter down. Sound like a drum.
Shawn was done after the 6th rd. Crawford was toying with him and picking his shots beautifully from rds 7-10.
We never seen Shawn slow down like that, and never thought well see it especially that early in a fight. Bud started man handling him when they tie up too. We hadn’t seen that seen the Brooks fight. Great stoppage

Perhaps Porter really did feel like this would be his last fight win,lose or draw,but I think that after such a tough fight,his dad's critique of his preparation and performance,right or wrong,crushed his spirit and played a big part in his decision to walk away.In any event,much respect to Porter who never ducked anyone and was one of the few boxers that I would actually pay to watch because I KNEW I would get my money's worth.
His dad was definitely harsh in his criticism of Porter. Couldn't be easy for Shawn to hear that. Great fighter!

Bud is the best fighter in the world and a finisher, Kenny knows that and he knows Shawn would fight till the death and Kenny was scared for his son and was upset that Shawn didn't prepare his best cause Kenny feels Shawn could've won had he been at his best because Shawn did good and wasn't his best and he got stopped is Kenny's mindset....but he's a dad and dad's ain't perfect, but he's there, you dig? I love the Porters,I remember when they both got hated on and black RUclips channels hated on the Porter's. They've been class all the time and Shawn cane to fight all the time.
Your selfish perspective makes sense...the man lives across the street from his father...do see ali roy jones evander zab larry james toney etc etc..brain damage with slurred speach..we dont have to deal with that...there friends and family do....his fathers harsh critique was 100% warranted when porter lossed control punching the ring potentially hurting his hand and wasting energy..he was going fight with pure anger after and end up in the hospital with a fighter like bud.

Class family, real father at heart, and Porter not only agreed with the stoppage but also felt he was in a really really ugly situation with almost the whole round left…. He wasn’t going to make it out. He avoided unnecessary punches to the head. Smart Father! Of courseTerrence is and has always been one of my favorite fighters to watch. He’s just amazing. I hope he doesn’t leave this weight class and go try to take unnecessary risks. Retire undefeated unblemished! 🙏🏻

I understand why he stopped the fight as Bud is a hellacious finisher and there is still more time left to do considerable damage but he is reaching with his reasons. If your fighter wasn't preparing well before the fight, it is an indictment on you that you still moved forward as the head trainer. The honorable thing to do would have been to step aside and let a different voice come in and perhaps he may respond better. His ego would not let him and the payday would not let him. Shawn is a grown man and to continually berate him in that manner in public is inexcusable. I so much hate when fathers try to project their shortcomings on their son. You 've raised him right already. He doesn't need your tough love at age 34. The guy is a complete narcissist and you can hear too when he's slighting Shawn at the end about raising his kids. I get the sense Shawn is retiring to spare his father the embarrassment of firing him but I do hope he continues to fight but certainly without his father.
I get your points but I don't ego was driving this decision at all. I think they had many private discussions about when was a the right time to step away from the game. Shawn is a great commentator and has other marketable skills that will earn him big paydays outside the ring. Walk away healthy with no regrets. I understand and respect your point of view. I felt similar at first but I think his father is giving Shawn solid advice. Shawn has made great money boxing and will continue to make great money outside the ring as well.

@@abyss104 FACTS. His father has an ego problem. And shocked us all by stopping a very close fight. Porter was winning up until the 10th round, on ALL 3 judges score cards. He deserved to try and finish the fight. His father is a POS for stopping the fight when Porter was aware and lucid and winning!!! He almost pulled off the upset. He made Crawford look ordinary up until the stoppage. SMH. I'm still pissed about the stoppage. Porter clearly said YES after the second knock down. Wow.
@@abyss104 I understand you position but that's not their reality or concern. Shawn wasn't upset with his Father nor did he objected to anything because it was true. He didn't listen and he fought the way he wanted too and got put down. I honestly believe they agreed that would be his last fight won or lose unless there was another opportunity to make big money. He shouldn't keep for 500k to 1 million purses. The Crawford fight was the biggest bag he ever made. If he's at peace with everything than I'm cool with it as well.

Respect is a humbling thing and shows the inside of a person. Porter never had the skills to beat top-notched fighters. His wins were based on hard-work and tenacity. Porter is proof you can only go so far with hardwork and tenacity. Skills will be the winner at the highest level.
Respect to Shawn Porter and his pops. I don’t agree with the stoppage but I have great respect for their relationship so I respect the stoppage.
His pops knows what he saw and I’m sure he made the right decision. Sad to see Porter retire but I respect that also. Very smart move! He got his bread up, didn’t take too much damage and can live out his life in peace with all his faculties.

Kenny is like Angel Garcia. Loves the sound of his own voice & is all up in the pressers talking for his son who is a grown man & the one doing the fighting. He's not needed, unless someone specifically asks for his opinion. Anyway, Porter had his day. His reckless style was never gonna do well against the top guys, so this is no surprise to me. It's been coming a while now. He had a lot of heart, but that doesn't win fights when the opposition is levels above. Nice guy, but I'm glad he's retired, as he's not a top fighter. He has top cardio, but rushing head first into punching range, against elite guys like Spence & Crawford, was never a good idea. Kennys tactics were literally steam in head first & swing windmill style punches & hope for a KO. No wonder he headbutted so many fighters, including Crawford tonight. That blueprint was a recipe for failure... Looks good to noobs watching, but it's exactly what top boxers wouldn't do. Tonight Kennys one dimensional style was exposed big time... They made some money, so they will be ok financially, but they ain't going down in history as legends in the boxing world, that's for sure. Losing is losing & Porter lost against all the top guys in his title fights. That says all we need to know....

I love seeing the sportsmanship they both showed. Fights like this can keep boxing on the upward trajectory.
I have always loved the way The Porters conduct themselves as competitors and more as men. These men are Class personified.
Personally, I THOUGHT Shawn could have continued, but the only people that know that is Shawn and Kenny Porter. And one thing about Bud...he gets surgical with his hits so that was indeed a smart call. In the end, that is not only his fighter, but his son. As a father myself, you know when your child isn't in the right mindset and when Shawn pounded the ground like that because he was off....his pops knew that was it.
Hate to see Shawn go like that and I really think he may take some time out for himself and make a small comeback, but man that was a great fight. Crawford was just the better man.
