I would love to see more of this type of app show up in the near future. As a sometimes solo gamer this made my until now unplayed copy of Descent very playable.
Appreciate your reviews and the thoughtfulness with which you share your opinions. There are a number of games in my collection that would not be there without your recommendation, and you have never steered me wrong.
500! Wow, great contribution to our hobby! This review might did a lot to sway me to pull the trigger on playing Descent...but not as much as winning Descent!
Enjoy your analysis and reviews and congrats on 500! A Study in Emerald came into my collection due to your review. Haven't played Descent to be honest, seems overwhelming right now.
My gaming group used Road to Legend last week and we loved it! The app was unobtrusive and made for a fun dungeon crawl experience. I've got my fingers crossed for an Imperial Assault app!
I have never played Descent before... But I'd really love to... It is just hard to find someone to sit down and figure out how to play... takes a LOT of time to do that
Great review Joel. For the first time EVER in the Descent line 1st and 2nd edition I get to play a character and not the Overlord. Really looking forward to this.
Awesome it's 500! Joel- thanks for all your reviews....you have helped take me from a beginning gamer to basically a cardboard addict and your videos entertained and enlightened me throughout my journey - u are a true virtual friend.....looking forward to another 500, sir!
I remember my uncle showing us this game when we were kids. I know i really enjoyed it back then, but i have never bought it for myself, and i have no idea why! i may have to revisit this one again. Happy 500th, I'll continue watching your game reviews :)
Joel, your video came at just the right time for me. I'm wanting a game like Descent or Shadows of Brimstone to play cooperatively with my granddaughters (9 and 10) this summer. School is out on Friday. Your video has pushed me toward Descent, though I need to study Shadows of Brimstone more. I think the app + Descent will be the way to go. Brimstone has the wild west vibe that might be enjoyable though. I agree that what they are doing with the app is a great convergence between computer and boardgames. I would like to contribute to that. Thanks!!
Congratulations on hitting 500 reviews Joel and also for being a pillar of strength for the board gaming community. Of all the uses of apps with board games, this looks like the most appealing.
I've been wondering about Descent for years but never really wanted to play an overlord (which I'd inevitably end up doing), so this app has really gotten me interested!
Another quality review. I've really been enjoying this App (playing it solo currently with three characters). I'm crossing my fingers that this is successful enough to warrant similar Apps for Imperial Assault and Mansions of Madness. If I had a choice, MoM would be my top pick.
I used to play a lot of Descent 1st edition, but stopped mainly because of the Overlord requirement. I stepped into that role for a while, but didn't enjoy it enough. This app makes me want to try out Descent again as a pure coop. Probably get more play time at my house as a coop.
Thanks for 500 reviews! Although I don't use many apps for board games, using an app as the overlord seems like a really good idea. I would love to have Descent in my collection!
The main reason I haven't gotten Descent yet is because I know with me being such a completionist, I'd also need to get all those expansions. But it is indeed a game I desire to help appease my dungeon-crawling addiction. With minis!
Thanks for the review Joel. I keep looking at this, then I look at how much stuff there is out there for the game. I'm not a completionist, but I could easily get sucked into wanting a lot of it.
Joel, thanks for all the hard work you have done on this channel. You are by far my favorite reviewer and I appreciate how thoughtful your reviews always are. Here's to hoping for another 500 reviews! :)
This app is exciting not only for Descent, but for the possibilities of Imperial Assault too (I don't have Descent yet, but love IA). From the looks of it the app seems to be doing a lot of the same AI things that Ares' Galaxy Defenders and Sword and Sorcery games do. Ares' system is by far my favorite cooperative game AI so that's a big praise.
Mmh they found a interesting workaround to implement imperial assault turn order to descent without having to change the rules of the actual game. That was the main thing keeping me away from getting descent, I'm very interested to try it now. Thanks for the reviews Joel!
Thank you for the review. I have been interested in Descent since the beginning but I live in Japan and solo-gaming is the only way to play. FFG have raised the bar and I am excited!
I''ve been interested in Descent 2.0 for a long time now, but the overlord factor has always held me back. Definitely much more interested now! Thanks for the overview
Thank you for the review! Descent is turning into a "platform" more than just one game. This app is not just variant of a game, but literally a new game you got with the base box. It reminds of the mods on PC games, that took the freedom to reuse the components to make totally different games, If Imperial Assault goes down that road too, we will have skirmish, campaign 1 against many, campaign coop & solo in one box!
Thanks for the contest! It's nice to see an opinion of the app. I traded away my Descent 2e in favor of the first edition, but this app has me second guessing my decision.
I mean, just a matter of time, right? If this works, I can't see them not doing the same for IA. I'm def not one of these that doesn't want apps involved in my gameplay; keep 'em coming, says I.
+TheGreatHamEl There's some speculation they may not have the rights to publish Star Wars "software"... but they do have the Star Wars dice app... but that's an accessory... not a game... etc... I'm sure they could get the rights easily if they don't have them already.
Well, I never would've thought they'd have the rights to make a legit board game like Rebellion, so there's a chance. I mean, technically, if it supplements the game, it isn't any different than the dice app.
+Drive Thru Review My two cents. Disney is all about money... and as one Imperial Assault app on the store wouldn't compete on the same market as an iOS EA game, I don't see why Disney wouldn't make some extra $$ and please their fans.
Congrats on 500 Joel!! Was really hoping you wold do a video on the app. My exact thoughts were whether it was worth it to go out and get Descent when probably all of my plays would be solo/no overlord.
I was always annoyed that Descent was not coop and solo playable. But now, I am very very interested in getting in Descent. Many thanks for the giveaway. Always nice to see gameboard reviewers giving away to their viewers.
Buddy had imperial assault so Ive been holding off on picking up descent. Hopefully we get an app for imperial assault too. The idea of making this a coop seems fantastic!
Wow Happy 500! That is quite a feat! Always enjoy your videos and been a subscriber for sometime. Keep up the great work. It is appreciated. As for the Descent App review, this is a game changer for me. I own the 1st edition and earnestly bought the second edition when it came out. I really did not like it and it did not go over with my game group. I have that group whom hates the overlord no matter what game (I'm looking at you Imperial Assault too). Now I look for Dungeon crawler board games that have an AI dungeon. Descent seems to fix this! So looks like I will have to go out and repurchase the second edition as my last copy ended up on the Dice Tower Con virtual flea market a couple years ago. If they do this for Descent and it's a hit maybe they do it for Imperial Assault? Anyways, thanks for the review and keep kicking butt!
Really trust your videos and just about always agree with you. Still very unsure about the app - yet to enjoy the hybrid app/board combination. We will see!
Really great idea for app assistance for a board game, Removing the need for a DM / Overlord is a great plan, I look forward to seeing what they do for other FF games in the same vein. Congratulations on your 500th video!
Congratulations on your 500th video Joel! Great idea for a 500th episode! Of course it only follows that you should do a series about which expansions you added *first* to your Road to Legend collection.....*thumbs way up*
Congrats on 500 subs...I have the first edition and several expansions for Descent...always liked the components, especially miniatures...good review...Jim
How very generous of you. I'm excited about this app and hope it does well. I really want to see a app like this for Imperial Assault. As always, a great review. Thanks for sharing.
Here's an interesting thought: The app is due to come out on Steam at some point. Possibility to integrate the Steam workshop maybe (user created content)? The possibilities would just explode....
Congratulations on 500 videos. It sounds great, especially in the way it doesn't intrude on the board gaming. I think First Martians will turn out have the best app supplement to a game. And this will allow great expanded storytelling dotted around the Descent universe. The potential is very exciting. But I must say that if they did bring out a Imperial Assault version it would make me elated.
Never tried a modern dungeon crawl. Might this be a good startingpoint. Love your reviews. Few come close to you when conveying the feeling of playing the games.
I bought the base game in anticipation of the app. Rolled the dice, but I think it paid off. Now me and my wife can experience the Road to Legend together.
Since I'm getting a smartphone this weekend, I would love to give Road to Legend a try this summer. A fully co-op dungeon crawl has always been a board game goal of mine.
Great vid. The app seems intriguing. Wonder if they'll do the same with Imperial Assault. Maybe not as IA has the skirmish module and this could be Descent's unique hook. Having the app save all the clutter is great too as it means you can have multiple campaigns running at the same time. Like you said, Imperial Assault is fine when you pack it correctly after a mission in a campaign but sucks a little is you want to do a one-shot mission with a different group.
I wonder how this will compare to CMON's Massive Darkness? I use to have Descent but I got sick of being the OL and so I sold it all. Now that Descent is CO-OP I wish that I still had it.
I love playing dungeon crawl games; however, I am always the one that is stuck playing the overlord. So excited to actually be a part of the adventure. Definitely going to be getting into the Descent system now!
I'd absolutely love this game. The folks at F:AT were just talking about it, and it really made me interested in Descent for the first time. NO OVERLORD? SOLD
Thanks for the review. I like to solo play board games as an alternative to videogames and am glad to hear the app doesn't take over the mechanics of playing the game.
I would love to see more of this type of app show up in the near future. As a sometimes solo gamer this made my until now unplayed copy of Descent very playable.
Please don't enter me in the giveaway.
Wow, 500 reviews, that is amazing. You do a great job with these and have quickly become one of go to review channels. Here's to 500 more!
Appreciate your reviews and the thoughtfulness with which you share your opinions. There are a number of games in my collection that would not be there without your recommendation, and you have never steered me wrong.
Congratulations Jason. You were randomly selected. Can you shoot me an email or Geekmail with your shipping address? :)
Congrats on your 500th episode and thanks for running the contest!
Congratulattions!!! We all really enjoy your honesty and good judgement in all your review. To 500 hundred more!!!
Congratulations on 500! I look forward to all your reviews and what makes it great is that we have similar tastes!
Congratulations of your 500th episode. Thanks for offering up the contest.
Another superb insightful review. Congrats on 500. Have tried decent but your enthusiasm has wet my appetite. Thanks
Congrats on reaching 500, Joel! You do such a great job filling an important role in the gaming industry. Best wishes on the next 500...
the big 500! thanks for all the quality videos through the years, Joel! now I just need an app to do the mini painting for me!
Many congratulations on the 500 milestone, and all the best for the next 500!
500! Wow, great contribution to our hobby! This review might did a lot to sway me to pull the trigger on playing Descent...but not as much as winning Descent!
Congrats on 500! Love the reviews. Keep them coming!
Congratulations on the 500th video Joel. You've got the best reviews on the internet.
Enjoy your analysis and reviews and congrats on 500! A Study in Emerald came into my collection due to your review. Haven't played Descent to be honest, seems overwhelming right now.
Congrats on episode 500! Man has it really been that many reviews?
My gaming group used Road to Legend last week and we loved it! The app was unobtrusive and made for a fun dungeon crawl experience. I've got my fingers crossed for an Imperial Assault app!
I've been looking forward to this review for a while. Gratz on 500.
Congratulations on your 500th episode! Love the channel and here's
to the next 500!
Congratulations on 500 reviews Joel! I was wondering what you would review for your 500th, nice choice.
I can't wait to see the next 500!
I have never played Descent before... But I'd really love to... It is just hard to find someone to sit down and figure out how to play... takes a LOT of time to do that
Congratulations on #500. Like all your other reviews, I've really enjoyed this one, and I look forward to another 500.
Happy 500 reviews! Let's hope for another 500 to come
Great review Joel. For the first time EVER in the Descent line 1st and 2nd edition I get to play a character and not the Overlord. Really looking forward to this.

Thanks Tim! Sorry Tim! :)
I remember my uncle showing us this game when we were kids. I know i really enjoyed it back then, but i have never bought it for myself, and i have no idea why! i may have to revisit this one again.
Happy 500th, I'll continue watching your game reviews :)
Congrats on 500! Very impressive!
A great journey to 500. Now onwards to 1000. Congrats!

sounds totally cool, and easily one path of the future of things. The family would really enjoy working together on this!
Congrats on 500, great review! I really want to get Descent the more I have been hearing about the app.
Congrats on the 500th video! Love your content - even as a newbie in the hobby - all of 2 years :)
Exactly the info I was looking for. Congrats on reaching 500! Looking forward to going through the catalog.

Glad to see a review on this, hope more content is released frequently!
Thanks for the review and congrats on hitting your 500th show!
Thanks for the great work on the channel Joel. I'd love to try out Descent with the Road to Legend app.
I''ve been interested in Descent 2.0 for a long time now, but the overlord factor has always held me back. Definitely much more interested now! Thanks for the overview
Just found your reviews. Going through them and discovering great games. Grats on 500.

Woohoo! Congratulations on #500. What a wonderful journey you've shared with us. Thank you for all you do. :D
So pumped for the potentials for this. Thanks for covering! I didn't think you were tbh, I don't think I've ever heard you mention Descent.
+TheGreatHamEl Imperial Assault is my jam, but this.....
I mean, just a matter of time, right? If this works, I can't see them not doing the same for IA. I'm def not one of these that doesn't want apps involved in my gameplay; keep 'em coming, says I.

Great review as always ! Just bought descent and have barely started playing it with my kids. Will try out this option also. Thanks !
Thanks for the review as always and congrats on number 500. I hope FFG has something like this in mind for Imperial Assault.

Congratulations on #500! It will be interesting to see if they re-do the box-set campaigns taking into consideration the alternating turn order.

Congratulations on your 500th! First time I watched your review was for Onirim (I think)! Keep'em comin' Joel :)
Thanks for the review! Good to hear someone's take on the app and how it compares to other dungeon crawlers out there.
This looks like I have been waiting for...We own almost all content to date but have yet to play because we are only 2...Thank you for the info!
I wonder how this will compare to CMON's Massive Darkness? I use to have Descent but I got sick of being the OL and so I sold it all. Now that Descent is CO-OP I wish that I still had it.
500 is a monumental accomplishment. I always enjoy your videos and look forward to the next 500.
Congrats on #500, great review. I'd love to have an app like this for Imperial Assault.
Descent was never on my list before due to the one vs many nature. But it is now. Great review and congrats on 500.
Keep on the good work on your reviews, congratulations on your 500th video.
I love playing dungeon crawl games; however, I am always the one that is stuck playing the overlord. So excited to actually be a part of the adventure. Definitely going to be getting into the Descent system now!
Wow! 500! Congratulations Joel - well-earned. Looking forward to many more. :)
I'd absolutely love this game. The folks at F:AT were just talking about it, and it really made me interested in Descent for the first time. NO OVERLORD? SOLD
I just found your channel. Great reviews! I'm excited to see technology integrate into analog gaming.
Congrats on show 500! I think this app experience looks interesting and I would love to give it a try.
