Re Bardarbunga - Had the good fortune to visit this site when on a tour of Iceland in Sept. 2014. Absolutely stunning....!!! Have been keeping up to date with news of Bardarbunga and will continue to do so. The topography of Iceland is matchless and the people most friendly...loved it!
Amazing! The fury and power of mother nature on display. Awesome vid, Eric! Glad the SD card survived the heat. Thanks for sharing such an incredible spectacle.
I have to say I'm really impressed with this video. I flew from Demark to Iceland on my return to New York, and as we approached the island, I was taken by how prehistoric it looked from the plane. I hope to return someday (for more than an hour this time) and bring my Phantom and experience this adventure myself. BRAVO! ;-)
Eric Cheng Thanks for your quick answer! As a volcano addict since the end of 2010 I try to fill my eyes with amazing eruptions like the one you filmed incredibly well. So unfortunately I'm quite used to the tricky situations with authorities forbidding the areas, of course things are way much easier in Indonesia than in "western" countries like USA Chile Iceland or France.... Do you have a good tip to provide me? I would be extremely grateful because I'm still hesitating a lot wether I go there or not.... (A MP not on youtube would be better if by chance you could help me I'll give it to you) Thx
drixc1 All I can really suggest is getting a proper press permit. But even some folks who have permits were denied: grapevine.is/mag/articles/2014/09/26/which-way-%E2%80%A8the-wind-blows/
Good job Eric cheng it was a good sacrifice for a footage you cannot get up close. Also I wanted to ask for the vision+ introduction you guys have a sample of that song I'd buy for sure on itunes
Stupefying and intense! Glad you have the wherewithal to be able to take off and rush to Iceland! (I'm here via Tested.) Mind boggling and fascinating. Glad the props didn't melt.
But it seems strange the gopro fused and the copter had no damages, what about the thin propellers of the Phantom, how did they survive without melting? And isn't there too much turbulence with all that hot air moved by the eruption? Awesome video BTW!
what a awesome video.!!!.did you have probloms with the camera of the dji inspire compaed to the dji photom 2 or 3 with the gopro hero 4 black but what awersome footage video.!!!.WoW.!!!.flying over a lake or train would be no probloms.!!!!.awersome.video.!!!!.job well done.!!!!.
What about putting a temperature sensor on the drone to make sure it doesn't over heat, and perhaps some heat shielding on the camera so it doesn't melt.
Very, very magnificent! A spectacular close-up of Nature's power - but I have to admit that when I've watched volcanoes in action I find there's nothing to substitute for 'up close and personal'. I sat watching the fireworks at Surtsey in August 1964 from less than 300 metres - but then there was a convenient viewing spot looking down into the crater and besides Bardabunga seems to be producing huge amounts of gas. So - all power to the DJI system and let's see more from it. Any chance of it being used over or near pyroclastic flows?
very nice editing and directing ! Still, i cant understand how come only the go pro melted but no quad copter damage ? And how was it flying so smooth considering so much hot air coming up :) Cheers ! Nice video !
Great footage. However this eruption is not at Bardarbunga and never has been. It's 40 kilometers away in a place called "Holuhraun". There are earthquakes in and around Bardarbunga and it may (or may not) erupt one day. That's under glacier, and would most likely result in a much more violent and explosive eruption with significant ash fall. The eruption in Holuhraun is luckily in the middle of nowhere (so to speak) far away from Bardarbunga glacier. This is though a very significant event and the lavaflow is of gigantic proportions. Thanks again for this video, just had to correct the position.
I got my P2 a year ago nearly. used ofc. and even tho it doesent fly right now due to a burned ESC. i still love it. its robust mostly is trusted and it allows me todo much :D still great drone in 2022
hello I have a phanton 2 with the h3 and d3 camera Go Pro Hero 3 black , wanted to know What is the maximum distance that can fly both height DISTANCE As there relancion Accurate ... and then see , the recording stops, which can not be the reason ... I'm from the Dominican Republic , which is at revealing the drones , p \ I would like to do an exhibition in this country to publicize the drones ... and create a shop where amateus acquire, their product .. pongance contact me and I can help you ...
I cant understand why people dont like such a video i fly the Dji phantom 1 and i am so jelouse i would love to fly over a vulcano how great such a chance wow really best location for a copter with actioncam
This is one of my favorite drone videos. I just love it. :)
It really is the first true art-of-the-possible display of great potential!

Thank you for sharing this video with us, so incredible!
Epic Footy !
Our planet LIVES! :P Good job, Mr. Cheng!
nicely done, but 12 hours drive from Reykjavik…? Did you guys walk? ;)
We stopped a couple of times. Also, had to get supplies, etc. ;)
Eric Cheng Hi great job !
How did you manage to come so close without any authorization?
drixc1 We had permits.
Eric Cheng Thanks for your quick answer!

Simply amazing and awe inspiring footage! Good sho!
Excellent video! Well done and thank you!

Amazing footage, well done guys! I'm surprised more of the aircraft didnt melt
Eric....That is some awesome footage! This may be the push I needed to pick up a quad copter! Cheers!
WOW! This is awesome!
This video is fantastic, thank you :)
That is pretty amazing! Love it!

good job,dji~
A fantastic way to see an exploding volcano
Another plus for use of quadcopters :)
(remember your material could melt ... )
So, range was a problem. How far could you fly the phantom with the lightbridge? Did you go further than the specified 1.7km?
affected the gopro, gimbal and not propellers? excelent propellers.

it's awesome great footage.

Just a very pragmatic question: Where can a get a drone and an equipment like this? The video shared is great. Congatulations!
I agree.. it is amazing :) Poor gopro though:(
Worth the sacrifice for this footage. I'd chuck mine right in if I could get a card back with stuff half this good...
very nice editing and directing ! Still, i cant understand how come only the go pro melted but no quad copter damage ? And how was it flying so smooth considering so much hot air coming up :) Cheers ! Nice video !
What are the wireless equipment you guys used ? Please ?
fantastic!!
Great footage! But a 12 hour drive... Did you ride a bike?
Awesome!
This is nuts.
Wow!
Just wow!
Hi what monitor controller do you use ? see at 1:27 of the video
Камера не выдержала - а коптер нормально перенёс.
How is the resolution of the brand camera (DJI) on the Vison 2 plus, compared to the GoPro3+ ?

I wonder would the mods give you more range?
Hi..Hello..
I'd like to know gopro camera setting?
does anyone know what tripod he's using? Some help would be appreciated.
Dear Eric, next time also do shots with the Vision 2 Plus so we can see how that one performs :-D
fantastic

Nice video, but phantoms did not melted too ? they are made of ABS plastic.. or kinda marketing stuff

Outfit that bad boy with some thermal protection and get closer.
This is what governments should be using UAV's for, not bombing each other back to stone age.
The footage was worth a melted GoPro . I suppose if you used a P2V+ you wouldn't of got the FPV Range
What can't you do with technology now in days.
