Chopin composed 21 waltzes in his lifetime.
These waltz pieces can be largely divided into two categories, one of which is an idealization of actual dance, and the other is a lyrical one with the form of a waltz.
The puppy waltz is one of the most famous pieces of Chopin's waltz.
Composed in 1847, it is dedicated to his pupil Delfina Potocka. He wrote Waltz No. 6 for Delfina.
Delfina Potocka is Chopin's lifelong friend who visited Chopin two days before his death and sang Handel's arias at his request.
Delfina's dazzling appearance caught the attention of many, and it seems that even Chopin fell in love with her appearance.
In a letter Chopin wrote to a friend in November 1831, the meeting between Chopin and Delfina was described as follows.
"Last night I had dinner with Mrs. Potocka at her house. Yes, the pretty Mrs. Potocka."
Delfina, however, had only a friendship with Chopin, and she was a Polish countess, feminine and elegant, in contrast to George Sand.
The popular name of the puppy waltz comes from an anecdote that says that 'George Sand' was raising a puppy, and this dog has a habit of chasing its tail and spinning around, so Sand asked Chopin to paint it as music.
As for the music, the fast melody stands out brilliantly, and the cheerful and rhythmic melody is the characteristic of this piece.
It ends so instantaneously that it gives a strange feeling of regret. It is a beautiful piece with a subtitle called Minuet Waltz.

쇼팽은 일생 동안 왈츠를 21곡 작곡하였다.
이 왈츠곡들은 크게 두 부류로 나눌 수가 있는데 그 하나는 실제의 무용을 이상화한 것이며, 다른 하나는 왈츠의 형식을 갖춘 서정시적인 것이다.
강아지 왈츠는 후자에 해당하는 곡으로 쇼팽의 왈츠 중 가장 유명한 곡으로 손꼽히고 있다.
1847년에 작곡되었으며, 그의 제자였던 델피나 포토카(Delfina Potocka)에게 헌정된 곡이다. 그는 델피나를 위해 왈츠 6번을 썼다.
델피나 포토카는 쇼팽의 임종 이틀 전에 쇼팽을 찾아 그의 요청대로 헨델의 아리아를 불렀던 쇼팽의 평생 친구다.
델피나의 눈부신 외모는 많은 사람들의 눈길을 사로잡았으며 쇼팽도 그녀의 외모에 반했던 것 같다.
1831년 11월 쇼팽이 친구에게 쓴 편지엔 쇼팽과 델피나의 만남이 다음과 같이 서술되어 있다.
"어젯밤엔 포토카 부인의 집에서 그녀와 저녁 식사를 같이 했다네. 그 예쁜 포토카 부인 말일세."
그러나 델피나는 쇼팽과는 우정을 나누었을 뿐이었고, 조르주 상드와는 상반되게 여성적이고 우아했던 폴란드 백작부인이었다.
강아지 왈츠라는 속칭은 '조르주 상드'가 한 마리의 강아지를 기르고 있었는데, 이 개는 자기 꼬리를 쫓아 빙글빙글 도는 버릇이 있어 상드가 쇼팽에게 그 모습을 음악으로 그려줄 것을 부탁했다고 하는 일화에서 비롯되었다.
음악은 빠른 멜로디가 눈부시게 돋보이는데 경쾌하고 리듬감 있는 선율이 이 곡의 특징이라고 할 수 있다.
너무 순간적으로 끝나 묘한 아쉬움을 준다. 미뉴에트 왈츠(Minute Waltz)라는 부제가 붙어있는 어여쁜 곡이다.

子犬ワルツという俗称は「ジョルジュ・サンド」が一匹の子犬を育てていたが、この犬は自分の尾を追いかけてぐるぐる回る習慣があり、サンドがショパンにその姿を音楽で描くように頼んだという逸話から始まった。
音楽は速いメロディーが眩しく引き立つが軽快でリズム感のある旋律がこの曲の特徴といえる。
とても瞬間的に終わり、妙な物足りなさを与える。 ミニュエット・ワルツ(Minute Waltz)という副題がついている素敵な曲だ。
