  • The series 'Farming with Barn Owls' celebrates the efforts of local farmers to conserve the Barn Owl, and the impact that the presence of Barn Owls has had on individual farming practices and has lead to a more engaged interest in the natural world. Tom Kelly, a farmer in County Offaly installed a Barn Owl nest box in the farmyard of his busy farm, and a pair of Barn Owls moved into the nest box in a matter of weeks. This series captures local perceptions towards the Barn Owl and shows why they are such important ambassadors for biodiversity as well as the role that farmers can play in their conservation and in delivering wider benefits for nature. This video was produced by BirdWatch Ireland and Ruth Hanniffy Photography in partnership with the Heritage Office of Offaly County Council, as part of the Barn Owl survey and conservation initiatives in County Offaly which is supported through the National Biodiversity Action Plan Fund of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

Fantastic work you've just turn a barn that was useless for barowls into a breeding site just by putting a couple of boxes up.Maith thu

Another wonderful video. These are just gorgeous. When we were very small my father would come home every now and again with a barn owl that had been dazzled by the lights on his car late at night. He'd wake us up to show us the owl and then let him/her off once they had recovered. They are beautiful creatures. One of my favourite birds.

Thank you Gwen for the lovely comment and what a lovely memory of your father who clearly cared a lot about wildlife and instilled the same interest in you it seems
