Sometimes I would like to dimension along the diagonal of a Wall containing a Bay Window for instance, and Revit will not do it. I can pull off of a Wall to a point and get a dimension that way, but it will not allow me to pick a point in two locations and pull a dimension between those points. I’ve been doing BIM for almost 20 years. Firstly, it’s super easy to create a family with open doors, but most importantly, why would you want to show show open doors? In plan, you can easily Create a door that has adjustable swing radius. I suppose if you want to make an animation of a door opening in 3D? If so you would use 3ds Max. Key thing for me with this update is improved 3d modeling speed. It's no longer laggy or bogged down, and has a few key additions that make 2023 what 2022 should have been.
If Autodesk stopped jerking around with creating a new Revit for "fixes", they would actually be going somewhere. -This year new Revit feature, landscape finally turns the right way, yaaaay. It took us one year, new Revit and your welcome. Better they come with new Revit version every two years and truly work on the engine of Revit. I bet you next year they will come out with new room colours as default. "Improvements for Revit"
It is good that they added option to cut views option in families, but I rather prefer if autodesk could have placed the tickbox option inside the project already, not in the family editor. Since you have the freedom to decide whether you need to cut view or not in a specific view of that the same family without the hassle of reeditting the family in editor again and saving as new family.
The one and the basic thing i miss on all revit software is "we should always import component by draging but i prefer like archicad which is using the components(furniture) right away from the software
The contour labels lining up one way is against the rules of cartography. Text should be always rotated with the top showing uphill direction. Easier to read. But it's more applicable to large scale elevation maps and less important for site plans.
It would be so amazing for creating DA or graphical floor plans in revit if you had the ability to change the opacity of a placed pdf or image so you can make custom graphic tree images and have them on site plans to limit the need for back and forth from photoshop. The ability is already there but its limited to 'decal' only so it would be great if the just extended it to basic pdf and image imports
This is a very common issue. The best way is to create your sheet, and add the color fills in post photoshop. I have made 400 different tree family’s, and at the end of day, Revit doesn’t support transparency. You can Create a tree family, with a solid circle in plan, and use view templates to adjust the transparency, but there is no way to get it to look correct, because Revit just doesn’t support transparency.
Some of the more important updates (of this quite boring revit release) were not mentioned in this video. For example, the ability to filter by sheet in schedules. What this basically means is that you can make just one room list schedule and use it on every floor plan - it filters out everything that's not visible on the viewports on this sheet. Another useful feature is that you can store material maps on Docs and links don't break for others.
Though some of these features will aid in workflows overall think this a very disappointing weak release. Was really hoping to see real 3D walls and topography improvements as listed on the road map. With any luck we will see this in Revit 2024. IMO the features that requires drastic improvement are Schedules(functionality and customisation) and Legends.
!!RECOMMENDATION!! -------------------------------------- Am kindly asking Revit Auto desk to create continue multiples rendering and automatically saving them. I don't want to sound harsh but Revit requires a better GUI, a geometry modeler like Rhinoceros and an easier approach for design. It's a great program for documentation on anything but the price is too high for a single user and the license is not permanent. Of course commercial licenses should be of course handled accordingly but this program begs for an easy entry to new users. It has so much potential since every object is simply parametric. Revit is a DATABASE that provides information of a building in exact terms of simulation. Anyway, those are my two cents. I hope the company reconsiders like Epic is doing with single users in Unreal engine 5. Revit is super important for game design too.
