You know I don’t think people realize how much we upgraded at Right Tackle. Trent Brown, if he can stay motivated and control his weight, is an elite offensive tackle. Last year his run blocking grade was 80.6, his pass blocking grade was 85.3 (3rd best in the NFL), and his overall grade was 82.4. All of those would have been tops on the Bengals last year. Jonah Willliams run blocking grade was 54.0, his pass blocking grade was 57.9 ( a career worst), and an overall grade of 58.5 (also a career worst). Cordell Volson scored a little higher than Jonah did. All there guys not named Jonah and Cordell did ok. Red Karras was the best lineman last year and was the 4th best pass blocking center in the game last year. Cordell is getting better though. Jonah got worse every year he played. Cordell overall grade last year was up 8 points from the previous year.

Hopefully volson can take that next step in his now 3rd year. He should be a peak strength & peak athletic ability, also he should've improved his technique! 3rd year is when lineman usually improve so I'm looking forward to it. Also trent brown is one of the best tackles in the league, & best one on one tackles in the league. U can't overpower him(he's bigger & stronger than most rushers), he has great technique & footwork( being able to mirror speed rushers). He will be a boom in thus offense & joe will relish having him at right tackle this season. Mims will be a beast, he could go down as one of the best tackles we've had!

I dunno, James... Great ranking for the most important Bengals, but this is supposed to be for the Bengals FUTURE. I don't think a two year ranking really qualifies as the future, so it missed the assignment. Like what would be that different from this when ranking the most important Bengals in 2024? I ranked Hendrickson high in my list because he could be one of the most important keys to winning our first super bowl, but shouldn't the list skew towards Bengals who will help build our dynasty in the next 4-5 years when we win our second, third and fourth rings? Love you James, but c'mon dude!

This year is part of the future... Amarius Mims is much higher than he would be if it was for just 2024. Just because you view future as 4-5 years, doesn't mean I have to view it that way. 2024 and 2025 is MUCH MORE valuable in my eyes. You disagree? Fine. Make a list lol. I didn't miss the assignment at all. Thanks for watching! - James

@@LockedOnBengals well Jake asked different on Twitter tho, he specified (by answering to a comment) it should be futher into the future, thats maybe why he wrote that^^ but yeah our window is this year with Tee chase and burrow together, if u view it for the organization

My top 5 most important players. 1) Joe Burrow. 2) Jamar Chase. 3) Myles Murphy 4) Amarius Mims. 5) Cam Taylor Britt. That’s the most important for the future but not necessarily right now. Right now or even in the next 2 years Burrow and Chase are obviously the most important filled by Orlando Brown Jr Trey Hendrickson Sheldon Rankins Ted Karras and all 3 of our CBs Dax, DJ Turner, and CTB. I don’t list Mike Hilton because she this is going to be his last year with us most likely. Dax Hill or DJ Turner or Josh Newton will be playing the slot nickel next year. If I had to guess I would say it will be Dax because that’s what he is the best at. DJ Turner was an outside CB at Michigan. Dax was a nickel at Michigan and Dax played some SS too. Oh and Jordan Battle is important too. I think we got a future Pro Bowl player in the third round. Possibly even a future All Pro. Jordan Battle is a fucking baller!! And the guy he played with at Bama Brian Branch the Lions took him in round 2. While Branch is good I think we got the better player. Battle is bigger than Branch faster than Branch in a straight line and he is stronger than Brian Branch. Here is Branches state line for the year. He was a starter all year last year. 74 tackles, 1 sack, 1 FF, 13 pass breakups, 3 interceptions, 1 td. Battle started ONLY 6 GAMES last season and he had 71 tackles, 2 sacks, 6 pass deflections, 1 interception. Now take those numbers and multiply them by 2.5 and you will see what kind of player we got. The dude is a fucking tackling machine. Tackles are a stat that is glossed over a lot. They are extremely important!! Aside from scoring points tackling is the most important most fundamental skill there is in football!

If Trent Brown plays to his potential this year and is motivated he can be dominant. Ted Karras is a former teammate so he can help keep him motivated. Last year Trent playing left tackle for the Patriots was so good it was unbelievable. In true pass sets in pass protection he was second in the NFL behind only future hall of famer Tyron Smith. And I island situations one on one situations with no TE help and no RB chipping again he was 2nd in that catagory behind again only Tyron Smith. And the cool thing about Trent is he can play left and right equally well. He had a run blocking grade last year of 80.6. That would have been the highest on the Bengals team last year. Trent had an overall grade of 82.4 and a pass blocking grade of 85.3!! That’s very very close to elite. I consider elite to be 88 or 89 and up. So run blocking grade lf 80.6 pass blocking grade of 85.3 and an overall grade of 82.4. ALL of those would have been the highest by far of anyone on the Bengals line.

I always thought Dax looked more like a high end CB than he did a safety. He is long and is built to run. Jordan Battle is built like a strong safety should be. 6’1’’ 206.

Sounds like James' standard is basically how much more likely the player makes the Bengals to win a Super Bowl while they *are here
