- I compared two Yamaha acoustic guitars, the FG700S and FD01S. Both Dreadnought shape with solid spruce top.

Bought have nice clarity, but the 700s has a bit more volume and bass tone. The 01s sounds more compressed, which is not a bad thing....I actually like it, esp. when strumming hard, it keeps the volume in check.
I just picked up a FDO1S in mint condition for $30 with cheap case and strap. I took almost 1/2 inch off the saddle, neck adjustment and new strings. I'm very satisfied with 1 hour work and money paid.
Daaaaaamn, where did you get that deal?
that's great
@@hmlqrt2716 A lady listed it on messenger. I was lucky to be one of the first to see the post.
i just got one for $15.00 at a garage sale, it seem like original owner never played it, full of dust and no scratches on the pick guard, cleaned good, change strings and sounds pretty good
Fuckin 1/2 inch
had the fd1s my whole life it’s pretty good i could not ever het another acoustic
Great review. Keep in mind the lower bout on the FG is bigger…makes a difference if you are a smaller player.
thanks for sharing your experience on these guitars
Great review. The 700 is definitely better sounding but only by a little. Thanks.
Thanks for the comment.
@@Edwin-E That's what i noticed
I have a FD01S and lowered the saddle as far as it would go and it rocks, best money I ever spent!!!!
congrats. Enjoy your guitar!
Incredibly, I'm buying these very same Yamaha guitars this weekend from 2 different people in the same town in the SF bay area! Total price for these 2 is $260, a deal . I Just ordered tons of strings. I will unique tune the FG700s and the FD01s to CGCFAC and DGCGCD or DADGAD.
Have fun! That's a great deal!
Ive been modding Yamahas out recently and repairing broken ones i find for cheap. So far i have
FD01S
F310
F325
F325D
F335
FG800
All have had repairs and mods. I usually razor the FB, round the edges of the board, bone nut and saddle and wood pins. I am polish and crown the frets and install sound hole pickups with end pin jack. Some required new tuners, but these guitars with these simple mods are like night and day difference. I also remove the top clear coat on the guitars top, i sand the necks and tung oil them. All of this adds to the tone and playabitlity. I also use 11 gauge electric strings on all my Yamaha's as the necks on these guitars dont seem to like the thicker acoustic strings without having to battle high action. Try a pair of electric strings sometime on your acoustics, just make sure they are 11 gauge or higher.
I als own the SLG200S silent guitar, but i got that new. But you can find used Yamaha solid top acoustics on the net for $60+ shipped. Crazy. After the work i do, folks are blown away by the playability and tone.
thanks for sharing your experience on those Yamaha's. They are amazing guitars!
Nice review Yamaha is the best value out there when it comes to acoustic guitar 👍🏻
Thanks for the feedback!
Depends on what part of the world you live in- but for the most part. Yes, Yamaha gives you a great product at a reasonably low price throughout all their products! :)
Other budget guitars to look out for (for USA only):
- Washburn Guitars
- Eastman Guitars
- Orangewood Guitars
- etc etc. PS. This is not to bash on Yamaha! More to educate people on their competition!
I guess it is pretty randomly asking but do anybody know a good website to stream newly released tv shows online?
A very wise choice for 2 similiar guiatarras!
thanks
I got the fd01s solid top dreadnaught, i like it 😊
Cool
Meet too 😁
The FG700S is by far the warmer sweeter sounding guitar on this comparison especially considering that the nut and saddles were real bone on the FD01S...I think the rosewood on the FD01S is a composition board that they call Rosewood but it is not...The FG700S I believe has a Pau Ferro fret board that they called Rosewood before Pau Ferro became a desirable tone wood...
thanks for sharing your thoughts on this
The rosewood on my FD01S is def solid, its not a composition. But mine is an older model. Maybe they have changed specs a little on the newer ones ? But im currently rebuilding an FD01S thats over 10 years old and its def a well made acoustic for the $. Im looking into getting a 700, but they arnt popping up used as often and i cant find a damaged one that needs repair. But the 700's are really nice. I own an 800 and that guitar is hands down my favorite of the Yamaha dreds i got. But i also really like my 335. Ive done a lot of work to my Yamahas but they all sound and play completely different than they did stock. These are fun guitars to experiment with changing stuff on. Bone nut, saddle and wood pins really effects the tone in a good way. For the $ ya cant go wrong.
The 700S looks easier to play and smoother tone but the FDO1S rings a little better but it looks difficult to fret cleanly...I think I would prefer the 700 s and put a bone not and bridge on it...But the FD01 would do also...Solid top is the main thing and the 700S is old the wood is mellowed...
Thank you very much for doing your comoparison info and playing. Honestly I have listened over and over to your finger picking and strumming and I cannot discern any difference in the two guitars. Will you make more comments here about changing to the bone nut and saddle on the FD01S please? For bone parts, what was involved, cost, source? Thank you again, Andre'
Thanks for the comment. I purchased my bone nuts and saddles from Ebay suppliers. You might be interested on my other video for guitar setup, which involved removing nut and saddle. ruclips.net/video/9-kytA2EqbQ/видео.html
Love the ebony fretboard and bridge. It's unbelievable to me that so many guitars have totally boring headstocks?
thanks for sharing
For your personal opinion what you like more Yamaha fd01 or Alvarez rd26?
I like FD01S as it has solid top and warmer tone.
Both of these guitars sound a lot better with D'andrea brass bridge pins, I have been playing for 25 years and you can't beat the Yamaha solid spruce guitars for the price.
May I know what is the result using brass pins? Is is brigheter? Thanks.
More sustain and a brighter sound, the chords will ring longer.
Thanks. I will try those pins someday. Looks interesting.
I ordered some, can't wait for them to arrive.
Thank you for posting this. Just bought a Yamaha FD01S off of Amazon September 2018. Will order this and upgrade with a new set if strings too.
Hey great video. BTW where is the FD01S made?
Thanks. That FD01S was made in China.
They are made in Indonesia in most cases...
Hey I bought my daughter an FD01S and I love it. I want her to sell it to me. But she said no..LOL. The FD01S has been discontinued. Do you know which guitar replaced the FD01S? Thank you.
I am not sure.
no it didn't its still on Amazon
I bought mine September 2018 off of Amazon.
They are still being made. One difference I noticed is that they recently changed the back of the neck from a gloss finish to a satin, which is easier to play.
Anong maganda para sayo boss?ok lang ba yung Fd01s?
Ok pareho. Mas may konting design enhancement lang yung FG700S.
Excellent review! I have an FG-730S that is one of my favorite acoustic Yamaha's, intonation is great, wonderful sound! Any solid top Yamaha is a bargain! Yamaha's ROCK!
Cool, thanks! Enjoy playing your Yamaha!
what do you recommend me this one the yamaha fgs700 or Alhambra Appalachian W100 CW OP E7 ? thanks
I never tried Alhambra guitar so I cannot comment on that one.
La alhambra!!!!
When was the FD01S made?
+Victoria Terzakis sorry, I got no clue.
thank you!
you're welcome
Great review.
Glad you think so! Thanks for watching.
I dont hear a huge difference, prefer the looks of the 700 and neck color as well as pick guard. For the $ both sound quite nice, but not as good as my Alvarez
thanks for sharing
Would you say these guitar sound the same?
In my opinion FG700S sounds a bit better.
I agree even though I have the FD01S solid top
Heavier gauge string and thick nylon pick can really warm up that FD01s a little. Either way, I picked one up for $75usd with hard case and stand. It's in excellent condition and will be my "beater" haha
what a bargain! Lucky!
Great video! Thanks
Glad you liked it! thanks for watching!
Good review 🎼🎶🎸
thanks
Did you set up the fd01?
Yes.
Edwin-E can you still play it comfortably without setting it up?
The FD01S has a much brighter sound. The FG 700s is warmer and more rounded, mellow in tone. It might have as much to do with the bone saddle and different strings but both sound great. Just depends on the sound you are looking for. I'd say the 700 is better for strumming and for accompanying a singer while the FD01 might better be suited for finger style
Thanks for sharing!
Spend the little $ it costs and buy a bone saddle and nut and get ebony or rosewood pins. What a difference it makes on these guitars. Its like night and day difference.
pls make finger style of how i met you by apo hiking society... timeless ballads😊
Thanks for the request but cannot promise.
FG 700s good, good sound
true
Fd01s is way better
thanks for the comment
ishwor Poudel Fuck no it’s a good sounding beater but as for Yamaha it’s very low end you need a setup definitely add the bone nut & saddle than it’s cool.
😀
I like my fg-750s still but that’s just me
thanks for sharing. I never played any FG-750S before.
Fg700 sounds much better
same for me.
