This was really good. I’m kind of surprised that with the success of the new All Quiet on the Western Front that Universal hasn’t put out a new 4K of the 1930 original classic. I would love to see it as the original is one of my favorites.
Another really enjoyable interview, Heath! Antonia is so charming and articulate, and I’m happy to see she cares so deeply about preserving her family’s contributions to cinema. I was fortunate to have met her aunt Carla on a number of occasions over the years at various conventions, and I feel liked she passed the torch down to Antonia as the steward for the Laemmle legacy.
Great interview! Let's all remember that Carl Laemmle Sr. who founded Universal, actually hated the idea of the monsters and it was actually his son, Laemmle Jr. who insisted on and believed in the Universal Monsters. If not for Laemmle Jr., the monsters would not exist and the studio would not be what it is today.
Once shared a table at a convention with Sara Karloff at a convention. We talked some over the weekend about Universal. She offered me some dried fruit.
Great podcast. One quick question Heath: do you think it's appropriate to ban and delete rude comments or should you leave them as an indication of openess to different perspectives?
I never have a problem with different perspectives and disagreements, but I do not tolerate outright aggression and rude behavior. I've got some comment filters in place to prevent certain things from ever being published. Racist comments, heavy profanity, and trolling usually gets flagged without me even seeing it.
I disagree the part about Disney. I believe Disney is doing a horrible job of upholding their previous catalog. Whether it's their approach to physical media, or looking down on their prior work simply to promote a different image that they are trying to present today.
I think Antonia was referring to the way Disney has marketed Walt himself and how they've built a mythology around Walt, early Mickey Mouse, and the classic movies produced during Walt's life time. Even their convention, D23, is a nod to the history of the company. You're right, these days Disney seems determined to ruin what it took 100 years to build.
My man in again with the interviews. Keep it coming. 10/10 fricheks
Terrific interview. As a lover of Universal Monsters, I will be checking out Ms Carlotta's work; appreciate your bringing it to our attention.
Hey, i’m already subscribed to Antonia’s channel! Psyched to be ahead of the curve for once 😄
Thank you! You guys give me hope for the next generation of classic film lovers!

Thank you so much! Carla was the best, and she LOVED attending those conventions. I hope to make her proud 🖤

An interesting young lady, happily embracing her past.
Heath, your description link to Antonia's YT channel gets me to a 404. I found her with a regular YT search though. Maybe a little fix. Thanks.
Thanks, I fixed it. RUclips does some strange things! The proper link is: www.youtube.com/@AntoniaCarlotta
@@CerealAtMidnight Thanks. I'm glad to know she has a channel as I wasn't aware of it until your video.
I for one hope that Universal never ever learns anything from current Disney.

@@CerealAtMidnight thanks for your honest response. I love the lack of negativity and drama on this channel. Kudos to you.
