The song in the final battle is called “Tsubasa wo Kudasai” (translate to Give me wings to fly) which is a popular graduation song in Japan. It is meant to literally signify a moment of growth for Shinji, standing up to his father in a moment of crisis. This is the closest Shinji ever get to being a full on hot blooded gung-ho protagonist, “piloting the robot to save the day” type deal. But obviously being in the world of Evangelion… it does not lead to the “happily ever after” good ending at all
Compared to the original series, yeah, this shit ends happy. Asterisk. Also consider the passage of time. I saw 2.22 in maybe 2008. 3.33 was like 2016. 3.0+1.0 I only saw about 3 years ago. Anno's brain has been changing over the course of the entire rebuild project, which took what? 18 years to complete?
yeah. In Rebuild, he (Shinji plus Seele) ended their entire lives, much earlier, i mean quicker, than the '95 television series. (had it not been for Kaworu... that is)
They missed the post credits scene. Also Evangelion 3.33 is confusing, that's why with the release of the fourth movie they released extra content no more than 20 mins in total to complement the story, since they take place between 2.22 and 3.33 it's recommendable to watch before the third movie, they are two shorts. evangelion 3.0 (-46 h) and Evangelion: 3.0 (-120 min.)
Lol somehow all these years later Hideaki Anno still doesn't know how to release a complete story without needing extensions to make it less convoluted.
1:14:50 In the case of Toji in the series... it was not "random." The point was not only to hurt Shinji from a writing perspective, but a very important bit of world-building. Toji was picked because, remember, _every one of Shinji's classmates is a pilot candidate._
@MiraPacku age, is the primary one. Like I think itxs about not having a fully developed ego. But yes, during those couple of episodes focusing on Toji and then Unit-04, it is _literally_ said that every student in Shinji's class is a candidate. And in some spinoff or game or something, Aida (who begged Misato to be a pilot) actually became one, I think for Unit-05.
Now the changes are starting to get more noticeable (Apart from new angels or new designs) As new characters appear, everyone is way more open with their feelings and Gendo didn't went to get Adam, but other thing. Also, Asuka has a different last name, I wonder why?
The NERV characters are named for Japanese ships, and to match Asuka's change in backstory, she was renamed from the carrier Soryu to the more recent Shikinami to line up with Ayanami and Makinami, ships of the same type.
The name of my middle school friend is taken from a character in a 1987 novel called ''Ai to gensou no fascism'' (Love and Fantasy Fascism). ''Ikari'' is named after the anchor used to anchor a ship.
Well, Evangelion is like a multiverse/timelines that happens diferent one of another (Kaworu being the only one who can go and have his memories of all his incarnations). I think that Rebuild is it's own universe/timeline and not change the "Adan & Eve" finale of EoE with Shinji and Asuka but yeah, Rebuild is the universe/timeline where Shinji reach the best ending for his life and the others (but we have other two universe witj happy end that is the Manga and ANIMA novels)... f*ck, i love this series.
1:02:22 This scene really shows exactly how much of Shinji’s mom is inside of Eva Unit 1, she responded to her son’s call and literally started the end of the world to fulfill his wishes and get his friend back. Shinji was willing to throw away his humanity to get that specific Rei back and his mother was right there next to him to do the same thing.
Yeah. When they talk about "giant Rei," I think it's super interesting that nobody ever thinks of Yui. We only see or hear her maybe 4 times over the course of the show, but she's obviously very important.
This isn’t just Yui taking control, like with a “normal” berserk state. This is Shinji’s desire, his indomitable human spirit bending the world around him along with her help.
Ikr. This happens in the 4th movie reaction too. Just like you said, he just keeps doubling down even when everyone is telling him he’s wrong. It’s painful
The two things that still chills me from this film is when Shinji's music switches to Track 27 instead of looping back as it usual does, and that final battle especially when Unit 01 goes berserk Side note: 49:38 - In the anime Toji, the original pilot of Eva Unit 03, actually does survive but at the cost of his left leg
What a shame they didn't see the preview scenes for the third movie, considering they are unique and depict the events of the timeskip that have never been portrayed in any other movie
That blood streak across the moon baffled me when I first saw it had me questioning if this is really a reboot or a sequestered along with Kowarus first lines “The third one again “ in these movies. If you remember in The End of Evangelion When Shinji realizes that despite all the pain life is worth living and stops instrumentality the giant god Rei’s neck slits open and a streak of blood comes out painting the moon with it. The rebuilds are reboots but with those little teases it had me thinking sequel history repeating but with twist in the manga after the end of it all theres a page with a panel of Shinji looking at the petrified mass produced Eva in the cross pose that feel stuck on the land and someone saying to him there relics of the distant past no one really knows wat they are like stone henge. Or it could just be cameos.
@@kuhpunkt an easter egg maybe just saying theres some things like the blood splatter that made question if its a reboot or sequel just a theory i use to have till i saw the last one cause one the mangas did that whole history repeat thing.
I love that tenth angel battle. Shinji finally makes his own decision, united a creature that has eaten of the tree of life with one that has eaten of the fruit of knowledge. Follows thru with his want and destroys the world and humanity as a consequence, chefs kiss. The book of Enoch was the one with the angels.
@@ernestosera7758 looking it up, it looks like the redub was done by the original Japanese company instead and they wanted the English script to be a bit more literally translated, so it's got stuff that sounds fine in Japanese and just plain wierd and awkward in English.
Micky is still holding onto the "Ash in is a comma" theory smh. Like, every piece of fiction is, in some level, a metaphor of someone's reality. That's why every cartoon can be boiled down to "that's an allegory for the main character's real life" or "nothing is real and that's the main character's fantasy" you can do that to any narrative because the understanding that fantastical stories reflect real life struggles is just realizing how fiction is created.
This movie only proves Shinji Ikari is the bravest little bastard in all of anime. Ordinary teenager with no special skills or superpowers, he's just depressed and introverted. But he walks into hell, time and again, to save people who repeatedly prove to him they don't deserve it. No therapists in the city, not even to make sure the Joseph Kony Giant Robot Brigade don't snap in the freaking cockpit, and the original plan wasn't even for him to live with Misato. There's no accident in that. The whole point was to break him, a whole city designed to leave one kid with absolutely no one to turn to, thrown crumbs of approval if he got too bad just so his psyche would fracture ON SCHEDULE. And he still gets up and fights, terrified the whole time, even while he's breaking down inside, because there's someone he can protect. THAT is goddamn courage.
49:39 The different between the Show, Manga and Film Show: Toji survived inside Unit 03 but lost his leg Manga: Toji alongside Unit 03 was killed Rebuild: Asuka survived but fell into a coma
I was cracking up seeing Chris and Spidey rocking side by side to the song during the Third Impact. It reminded me of old Beavis and Butt-Head episodes during the music video commentaries
There's a good deal of meta stuff about the Rebuilds The majority of them is a message to the fans of the franchise, you guys will probably notice them going forward and even in this movie
Ah shit, nerding out. In the short scene of Asuka after Misato and Kaji's dinner, Chris thinks the bed is Misato's. Going back to the show, remember Asuka had issues with Tokyo (3) living, expressing dismay at both unlockable sliding doors and futons on the floor. It could be Misato's bed (she fucks), or she could have bought her own. Or... it could have been Shinji's. At the end of episode 2, he was sulking in a bed, which seemed to have disappeared back when he tried to kiss Asuka in her sleep, and when Kaji came over to "babysit."
One thing that you need to now is that even end of eva is canon it´s it on thing. Take it more as an 'ending' of Eva rather than a continuation. In this sense, it is more like Eva has three endings.
to answer the original series was when ano was going through a rought time in his life, but with the rebuild movies he is married and enjoying life and mari is a representation of his wife
10:47 Nebuchadnezzar was the King of Babylon who made a few stupid choices against the warnings God gave him, before finally accepting the Hebrew God. He actually wrote the 4th chapter of the book of Daniel, I thought that was pretty cool. So I don't think he's an unsavory figure or metaphor as he converted and will be in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Also is implied that in the next parts of Eva, (3 and thrice upon a time) asuka is clone...so...shinji may have actually killed her during the Plug scene and she got replaced like misato hints at
Honestly, i love Asuka cooking like a slob, because i do the same thing. Like no pants and still wearing jewelry. When you know how to feed people, you know
Even though it feels like 10x more crazy than the show, I almost like this more. Between the b-roll footage of mundane Japan, the extra laughs and Kaji shenanigans, it kinda feels a little more balanced. I do think Shinji's berserk scene was much creepier in the original show, but all things considered, it was a cool watch.
So did they miss the post-credits scene, or did they watch it and just not include it in the reaction? The actual point where things swing away from the show isnt Asuma being chosen to pilot instead of Toji, its slightly before that: when Mari falls out of the sky and crashes into Shinji. There's even a clever nod to this with Shinji's music player: throughout the entire series he only ever listens to tracks 25 and 26 on it, but when Mari crashes into Shinji, he drops it and it skips to 27. Things are going on a new track, get it?
Have in mind that some these flashbacks that were essentially... really a sensation of dejavu... remember that Kaworu "transcend time and space"... the manga being the first iteration of the world, Neon Genesis Evangelion being the 2nd iteration of the world happening all over again... (where behaves already familiar with Shinji... because he met him already on the first world's rotation, back then the first time he really met him for the first time properly), the here on the Rebuild series... remember Neon Genesis Evangelion's The End of Evangelion ? The world was set to be reset at the end, and reason why Shinji started strangling Asuka it was his selfish decision to try to save her from dying from starvation... as there's nothing left alive on the world at that point, the world was already done for yet it was bound to "restart"... reason why Shinji and Rei earlier have that conversation about "being okay" and "focus on being reborn" as if future suggestions... even though there's no future version of the current versions of themselves at that point. The world restarted for a 2nd time, this being the "Rebuild" series. Constant feelings of dejavu left and right, and most even just... happen again... just slightly different... but the bigger give aways that it's really a restart.. ? The moon still coated by the massive Rei's neck blood, and the world is flooded in ocean by the old "blood" contamination that you see at the end of "The End of Evangelion"... there's much less of Earth available... and Kaworu still remembers every previous times the world reset... he specially remembers... Shinji, and this 3rd time, instead just talking him first... he takes a drastic action instead
in the anime, the studio told anno "You are NOT killing a kid on a show." to which anno said "Well.. the manga is fair game so...." yeah, mickey is.. Sort of Right?
Hideaki Anno was only in a better mindstate for the final film in the Rebuilds. He went in and out of depression during production leading to the infamously long release windows between films.
The reason the they knew so much about the angels that attacked is because they got that information from the dead sea scrolls, just like in the show. The facility keeping the remains of the third angel prisoner was a joint operation between Europe and Russia. It's hard to tell in the dub but everyone was speaking English there, that's why they were Japanese subtitles. Mari is a part of the Europe branch of Nerv.
One minute in i can't let it go the version of the anime you watched is the new voice actors the movies have as much of the original cast as they could get back
Did you notice how the anime really changes from the point that Mari falls on top of Shinji? His Walkman always went to track 26, after the meeting the track went to 27. In addition to signifying a new chapter for the Saga, here we also have the change that Shinji needed in his life... but he still needs to go all the way to the end. Mari became my favorite character and an important agent of change in the Saga. At the end I return to discuss more about the figures of love that pass through Shinji. I hope for a new drunken explanation, now from Rebuild.
It's interesting no one here is commenting on how it feels like Asuka and Rei are out of character, trying to cook for Shinji and communicating their feelings to each other and stuff.
Nebuchadnezzar didn't challenge God, he was warned by God not to get a big head about how great he is, and then he forgot and started thinking about how great he was. So God made him think he was a cow for seven years, and then he got his sanity back and his kingdom back.
Having to get used to the voices, something to keep in mind. The original dubbing actors from the series, Death and Rebirth, and The End Of Evangelion reprised their roles for these films, HOWEVER they needed to get different voice actors for the Netflix/Blu-ray editions of the series. In other words, newer fans would have an issue with the different voices watching this right after checking it out on Netflix, however I was disgusted they couldn’t keep the same ones for the Netflix/Blu-ray release. Edit: What medium are you watching this from? I have the physical DVD, and instead of Mari shouting ‘if you want it that bad, I’ll just give you the arm’ she talks about just beating it with one arm. I was unaware they had different dubbing tracks for the Rebuild series.
Yeah the Rebuilds were redubbed for the Amazon Prime release. Besides Spike Spencer as Shinji, Allison Keith as Misato, Tiffany Grant as Asuka, John Swasey as Gendo and Felicia Angelle as a character from 3.33 onwards, who reprised their roles again from the ADV/Funimation dubs. The Amazon dubs brought back more reprisals from the original ADV/Manga dubs of NGE/EoE, including Amanda Winn-Lee as Rei, Jason C Lee as Aoba, Brett Weaver as Toji, Amy Seeley as Maya, Michael Ross as Fuyutsuki, Tom Booker as Keel and Kimberly Yates as Hikari. Everyone else was recast yet again, with the only Funimation reprisal being the aforementioned Felicia Angelle reprising her character from 3.33 onwards. The new Rebuild dub has similar issues to the VSI/Netflix dub of NGE, stilted script with questionable direction. It also doesn't help that the 1.0-3.0 redubs were rushed, which is not a problem with the 3.0+1.0 dub, which I think is a very well done dub. Kinda means the VSI/Netflix dub of NGE is the odd one out as its cast is unique to it, but that dub is also the most accessible one now (Thanks Khara for your active attempts to bury the original ADV dub, and original Funimation Rebuild dub as well). As the most accessible English dubs are now the imo inferior dubs. Not necessarily bad, but I do think both the ADV and Funimation dubs are better. Obviously this wouldn't be an issue if they'd/anyone new watching the show watched the ADV/Manga dub, as then the cast would remain reasonably consistent. But you can thank Khara for making that dub only available on a $170 or more Collector's Edition Blu-Ray set that has the original dub (and Platinum sub translation) on a completely seperate set of discs. It sucks to be a long time fan of this show.
Bitchka demonstrates over and over why her series failed while Rei's did not. In the end, Rei was simply a better person despite being raised to not think of herself as a person at all. 42:01 Her ringtone is King Ghirorah. This is pure, beautiful gallows humor. 49:00 This is a Rei not being polite after that elevator slap. 'Didn't even use any of her powers, just plain slaughtered another Eva and the pilot while being strangled. Yui's in the core just thinking "That's my girl." 58:17 A little downplayed from the original. N2 explosives are under UN control, EVAs have to be prepped before launch, and launch orders are issued from the control station. 'Pretty much a last chance for the slower viewers to realize Rei was not normal. Not even close to normal.

32:17 Hey look, it's Hideaki Anno's wife, Moyoco Anno with her brown hair and everything.
This is the best one of the Rebuild movies.
WHERE IS JJKKKKKKKKKKKK
Your guys reactions to kaji is always great
Im starting to feel bad for subjecting Marketa to watching this 😂
Campaigning to get Gundam 00 on the poll after TTGL
One thing that you need to now is that even end of eva is canon it´s it on thing. Take it more as an 'ending' of Eva rather than a continuation. In this sense, it is more like Eva has three endings.
what
to answer the original series was when ano was going through a rought time in his life, but with the rebuild movies he is married and enjoying life and mari is a representation of his wife
to marketta
Wait, did you skip the post-credits scene?? There's a post-credits scene!
Dudeessss ?? Where's the JJK Episode ??
Also is implied that in the next parts of Eva, (3 and thrice upon a time) asuka is clone...so...shinji may have actually killed her during the Plug scene and she got replaced like misato hints at
Honestly, i love Asuka cooking like a slob, because i do the same thing. Like no pants and still wearing jewelry.
When you know how to feed people, you know
I was just searching for this!
Did they watch the after credit scene? I think that part is important.
They missed the post credit scene
40:50 Why doesn't even one person out of these four see the death flag in here?
I had no idea Markéta is Czech! Hi, fellow Czech girl.
Minds are going to be blown in the next reaction.
in the anime, the studio told anno "You are NOT killing a kid on a show." to which anno said "Well.. the manga is fair game so...." yeah, mickey is..
OMG, why why WHY, 2023 and people still missing POST-CREDITS scenes!!!!!
They missed the post credits scene! T_T It is important!
One minute in i can't let it go the version of the anime you watched is the new voice actors the movies have as much of the original cast as they could get back
What about jujutsu kaisen episode 18 ?
Wait. . . they know there are four movie not three, right?
They watched all movies weeks ago...
sag/aftra strike has been over for a couple weeks now im pretty sure you guys can get rid of the disclaimer now
they made those videos a long time ago.
Animal trailer reaction its the most violent shit right now
Did you notice how the anime really changes from the point that Mari falls on top of Shinji? His Walkman always went to track 26, after the meeting the track went to 27. In addition to signifying a new chapter for the Saga, here we also have the change that Shinji needed in his life... but he still needs to go all the way to the end.
Mari became my favorite character and an important agent of change in the Saga. At the end I return to discuss more about the figures of love that pass through Shinji.
I hope for a new drunken explanation, now from Rebuild.
Clockwork Orange? Never heard of it. (Sips Milk Plus Drencrom )
do you guys watch till the end? Then mark 6 comes from the moon
16:20 take this man to an aquarium
Where is JJK episode 18
@@332ndCompany Ok Thank you
I still can't believe they re-dubbed the Rebuild movies, when they weren't even 10 years old.
YOU MISS THE AFTER CREDIT SCENE IS SUPER IMPORTAN GO AND WATCH THE LAST MINUTE OF THE MOVIE.
idk why but Chris "insert word" Johnson always cracks me up
When are you guys releasing Invincible ep 04 reaction?
Ahhhh that’s why it doesn’t sound right there watching the redub of the rebuild I thought it sounded a little forced
Ah, I thought so too, glad I sifted through the comments to get confirmation
These thumbnails are perfect 😂
I still don't know wtf is going on, my simpleton brain can't comprehend all this, I just enjoy :)
It's interesting no one here is commenting on how it feels like Asuka and Rei are out of character, trying to cook for Shinji and communicating their feelings to each other and stuff.
everybody: get in the damn robot shinji!
Shinji: fine! (gets really into the robot)
everybody: woah not that far!
Tsubasa wo Kudasai le da un toque a esa escena, tremenda, pero tremenda obraaaaaa
@thenormies you guys are missing the post credit scenes!
They used the original voice actors from the 90s for the rebuilds on Amazon, the Netflix cast are the imposters.
No post-credit scene? Uh oh (I get it's not clear there would be one).
First time seeing the re-dubbed version....they should've kept the original
Nebuchadnezzar didn't challenge God, he was warned by God not to get a big head about how great he is, and then he forgot and started thinking about how great he was. So God made him think he was a cow for seven years, and then he got his sanity back and his kingdom back.
did they miss the end credits scene?
yes
By far the best of the arebuild films: 9.5/10 stars ⭐️
3.33 is better.
Yui's in the core just thinking "That's my girl."
58:17 A little downplayed from the original. N2 explosives are under UN control, EVAs have to be prepped before launch, and launch orders are issued from the control station. 'Pretty much a last chance for the slower viewers to realize Rei was not normal. Not even close to normal.
Geez the re-dub of these movies are rough, the funimation dub is definitely superior in terms of performance
