Dr Audrey Whitty, Director of NLI on Ireland AM. ☘️ Seachtain Na Gaeilge 2024

Dr Audrey Whitty, Director of the National Library of Ireland, was invited to highlight just a sample of our incredible Irish language collections this week with Gráinne Seoige and Síomha Ní Ruairc on Ireland AM/Virgin Media.
We showcased:
📖 Coiscéim ar aghaidh; First Gaelic Book, Antoine Ó Dochartaigh, 1912
📖 Mion-thús Léighinn: Gaelic Primer, by Antoine Ua Dochartaigh, 1907 - A textbook for primary school students.
🖼️ A print of the “Eire” page signed in green ink by Art O’Murnaghan. It consists of a Celtic filigree design with insets of birds in volutes of initial ‘E’ in Éire, overlaid on a list of Ireland’s names and text shown through windows in ornamental panels.
🖼️ The Broadside poster was issued by Conradh na Gaeilge in 1917 for its annual Hallowe’en festival, advertising a concert and a céilí to be held in the Mansion House. It was printed using a lithographic process by the Dublin firm of O’Loughlin, Murphy and Boland.
