Day 8-Black-Famous Grouse Smoky Black. Very pleasant smoky nose, not overwhelming at all. Definitely a sweetness after the smoke. Flavor is delicious, again, a light smokiness, definitely some peat. There is almost something savory to the flavor on this. I have to agree with many of the others, I really, really enjoyed this. I'm giving it a 7.5, my second highest of the year so far, but overall this might be my favorite based on the combination of flavor and price point.
The Famous Grouse has an inviting cigar smoke on the nose. Slightly viscous in the mouth, it has subtle notes of licorice and finishes with honey. There's a little more alcohol heat present than I would expect from a standard ABV whisky.
The famous grouse while not the best ive had is quite good. But the price point I really like, cominin in at less than 30 definitly within reach to a regular purchase
The Famous Grose is an excellent scotch. I'm having problems using the qr code on the back of the box; my phone isn't picking it up as a code block for some reason.
Black box. That drank hotter than 80 proof. Pretty good though.
Famous Grouse is our favorite so far... and at a great price point!
famous grouse. smooth sipping whiskey. liked it
Day 8 - Green Rossville Union Rye Whiskey. The whiskey races on the tongue transitioning rather quickly through its flavor profiles. Starts off peppery with vanilla bean undertones and then finishes with hints of fruit as it evaporates off the tongue.
It has a mouthy heat that would cause you to believe it was a higher ABV as if it was bottled in bond.
6.5/10
the Famous Grouse is my favorite of the season so far. smokey and just peaty enough.
My Day 8 was replaced with a second Day 9. VERY unhappy about this quality control failure.
A flowery, slightly smoky aroma. Fruity, almost like apples. Taste is sweet, like cherries, more than smoky. A very smooth finish, ending with the taste of smoldering oak. I have always wanted to try the famous grouse, but I was scared off by it being blended and also on the lower price range. But I like this one almost as much as a much pricier. McCallan.
i’m not a fan of scotch whiskeys. to smokey. but in the spirit of christmas i did drink it all 😂
Pretty certain my day 8 is NOT smoky black from famous grouse, zero peat, zero smoke, zero phenols, no spice. It was a nice sweet and fruity, most likely highland scotch, I just wish I knew what it actually was
Not bad at all. Famous Grouse is probably the smoothest one ive tasted so far. I prefer a bit more burn than this one has, but for what it is, very good. Id say its above average for what ive tasted from calendar so far
I loved it makes all women beautiful
I was excited to try this one. I like scotch and haven't had any offerings from Famous Grousse.
The smoke was present on the nose, and palate. I love me some peat. Respect for the dinosaurs and other long gone organic materials that decomposed to make it. 😀
At $25-35 this is worth a flier, but honestly there is better blended scotch whisky in this range and I would rather spend twice this on a single malt. Perhaps The Macallen or Highland Park which are two of the single malts this blend is made from.
I like that Scotch is pretty versatile such that it can substitute any whiskey based cocktail and deliver a similar, though slightly smoky, experience, but I typically drink my scotch neat. Hence the suggestion you go with a single malt instead of a blend.
The flavors described are more or less represented in the sample. Do not Google phenols or you might call this Famous Gross. The distillery and Flaviar aren't trying to poison us. It would take more than a 50ml sample. 😂
Sláinte!
Black Day 8
N: peat. Machine oil.
P: some smoke but nothing else coming through
F: light peat. Little bit of burn that hangs out for a while
Maybe would be good in a cocktail. But too one sided and basic to drink neat.
2/10
This one was smoky, spicy, phenolic, not bad, but definitely not my favorite.
Nope not for me. I’ve enjoyed trying all the whiskeys up to this point, but this was not good. I’m not a snob but it tastes cheap. Tastes like alcohol mixed with liquid smoke. 2/10. Looking forward to tomorrow!
Agreed. I think 2/10 might be generous on this one. Even after airing, adding a little water, it still doesn’t taste good and can’t believe this is something people actually drink regularly.
Still no response to the issues with the Flaviar Black membership. I guess that part of this purchase was a scam. I wish the daily videos didn’t advertise the free membership. It’s a bit of salt in the wound
You should have received a email when you bought it with the code for the membership. If not contact support, its not scam, I received mine
I received it as a gift. The person the gave it to me forwarded the email. Tried the links nothing worked. Emailed Flaviar several times, no response. Either it’s a scam or they just don’t care about their customers.
Famous Grouse SB. Nose: Cereal grain, dried apricot, nectarine. Palate: Same notes with a tiny whiff of smoke. The palate is ok at the beginning but fades quickly leaving a rough alcohol taste and burn. I think the peat went on a trip. Bleah. Poorly made whiskey...after a few sips I poured the rest down the drain and poured myself a proper dram of Kilkerran. 2/10...very disappointing. 👎
Lol, I liked it, by my wife HATED it, and said the same thing you did. Funny how that works.
I'm getting tired of you faking your way thru the tasting and reading EXACTLY whats in the book . After 2 years of buying these, I'm out... SO SCRIPTED .
The guys last year were so knowledgeable and helpful in the journey. This guy is terrible.
