I'm applying for a scholarship abroad and I've been going back and forth with my personal statement because I feel it's not good enough, and scholarships are obviously very competitive. Watching this video I got so many ideas of things I could change or add to improve my personal statement that I think I might rewrite it again. "It's about you helping the school, not about how the school can help you" I feel like that statement is wrong. YOU'RE paying for your education, and even if it's not you specifically paying for it, it's your parents or a scholarship that does. It's either thanks to your academic achievements or to your parent's work, not thanks to the universities "good will" to accept you. The reason why universities have the privilege to choose students who will benefit them is because so many people are applying. High demand to enter a specific university leads to the university taking advantage. It's true, universities don't care about you, they have so many people applying already. Universities are a business at the end of the day, not a humanitarian act. Yes, education is important and even though it's expensive, ignorance is much more expensive. Regardless, I feel like the pressure for students to attend university has planted the idea that we owe universities something when applying. Like we need to be useful to them in some way in order to be accepted. To a certain extent this DOES help because it filters students in a way that builds a healthy academic environment for the school, but in reality they're only looking for you to pay tuition and to grow their business. To get even more out of you, they make sure that their students are the best of the best so that they mainting their high ratings. If you're not a top student, they get nothing from you, because their goal isn't to educated you. Again, just a business strategy that gets students to work for their benefit instead of the other way around. I understand this isn't new knowledge, but it's important to clarify to students that they're just an asset to the university. It's like applying to a job in high demand, but instead of GETTING payed, YOU have to pay.

I finished my HBA in politics. And I have applied to the 12 month BSW in ontario Canada. I submitted two references resume and the application package supplemental package. But our personal statement is a 5 question exam. That's like three and a half hours. I can't find information on preparing for personal statement exams anywhere. Has anyone else experienced an exam for this?
