I've actually met a few and believe it or not if you actually met people who've been through situations like what Kat went through with Uncle Harry you might actually see why they have a high defence mechanism for a personal front.
Michelle Ryan who played Zoe admitted that the character was too needy. The writers jumped the shark by having her in a one-sided relationship with Dennis Rickman for so long. He was clearly still in love with Sharon and told Zoe countless times, yet she played the victim and had the nerve to fake a pregnancy to force him to stay with her. Then she got to leave the country without facing trial for half-killing Den Watts. Rushed & insulting writing.
I think a major problem was that the writers stopped focusing on Kat and Zoe's dynamic after Kat married Alfie. They focused more on pleasing the Kalfie shippers than doing right by the mother/daughter relationship, which was just bad writing.
I actually think it made sense, her mother had left her. If you look at the beginning of the relationship with Dennis when Kat was around to how it was when Kat had left. She was so afraid to lose Dennis when she had already lost Kat. The faking the pregnancy was something manipulated by Den an elder giving her advice. I agree- everything about this whole storyline felt off from the beginning and I suspect that the writers were struggling to find a suitable conclusion after both Michelle Ryan and Tracey-Ann Oberman had decided to give notice. We never really get the sense that either Zoe or Chrissie are struggling with the guilt of what they have done, only Kim Medcalfe as Sam really starts to show PTSD after the incident. The Kat-Zoe relationship never really gets a proper conclusion and we are left with some extremely dull material as Chrissie instantly goes off with Jake Moon and Sharon and Dennis mope around at Pauline's. Fortunately, the show would start to take a definite upswing over the next 24 months with the introduction of the Branning Family, Ronnie & Roxy and Bianca's return to the series.
This was a brilliant era of Eastenders with proper, complex characters and brave, risky storylines. Even the more far-fetched ones like this were shot through with human themes like love, betrayal, forgiveness. And you get moments of brilliant comedy like Dennis and Pauline or Kat’s “You’ll keep” to Chrissie 😂
It’s been long enough. Zoe and Chrissie should both return. Michelle Ryan says she’ll never be back to play Zoe but I know as she gets older she’ll find it harder to get work and she may like a retirement job at EastEnders instead of hunting for other roles.
Yeah they should bring Zoe back and Dennis. Kat was the one who wanted to know about Zoe and got annoyed hearing the truth. Sharon might be happy with Keanu but it was Dennis she really loved
@@AS-wj1du yeah and I find it odd that Sharon never asks Kat “how’s Zoe doing?”, and they have so much history… feuds always get forgotten about in EastEnders. Sharon only remembered her grudge with Sam over her Dad’s death when Kim Medcalf stepped back into the role.

I love Zoe and her actress, Michelle Ryan. I am glad Michelle Ryan has moved on from the show. She has been up to so much ever since she left the show after 17 years. She's been in Merlin, Doctor Who, and now she has done voice acting work. If she was still in EastEnders, she wouldn't have time to do the other things she's been doing. Michelle Ryan revealed that Eastenders was holding her back and she's glad she left. I love Michelle Ryan so much.

I actually think Sophie Austin (Lindsey Roscoe from Hollyoaks) would be an amazing recast for Zoe. Plus, she's already got the experience of soap acting, the talent and the all-important accent.
Zoe was so stunning, and a pretty sweet person too, as I remember. 😍 I couldn't understand why she didn't have the best men clinging to her. Jamie preferred Sonia, and Dennis wanted Sharon. 🤷♂️ Poor Zoe ended up with an aged Dirty Den (whom she didn't want at all, just to get pregnant and trap his son Dennis) - as if she would have had no other options! 🤮🤔
