Thanks so much for making these. Really feels like an exploration of ecosystems I'll probably never see live myself. Any ideas/hints as to why some of these spots seem to lack aquatic plant life?
Thank you for watching, I'm really happy you enjoy them, There is probably a lack of plant life due to the the heavy rainfall in the wet season, there is some plant life in shallower bogs around the creek, the heavy rain also probably strips all the nutrient rich substrate bare from the heavy water flow so aquatic plants don't even get a chance to take root, the slower smaller creeks have a lot of plants but they are just flowing off flat ground were the other creeks are just inundated strait off the mountains.
Dunno if anyone has mentioned it but be careful in the water in the north of Australia. Just because they're called salties doesn't mean they don't like to go for a wonder upstream every now and then. I moved from NT to Townsville and discovered that a lot of the locals of North Queensland have zero idea about crocs so won't warn you. You can find pics of crocs up fresh water creeks and rivers in the Townsville Bulletin archive and elsewhere I'm sure. Awesome video mate.

Thanks mate! they are trying to slowly re-stock them down our way, yes there are a few grunter, they probably still need to do work on a lot of fish to, there are a few grey areas.
Not a dumb question, you always have to be on the lookout in some areas, some creeks are safe and others you just have to be careful, I also drone up and down stream first to check if there are any around.
Poly CK near Innisfail would take you through a scenic 3hr creek stroll to the waterfall (runs down to the Ella Bay National Park beachfront), with a few deep pools along the way. Mozzy repellent and a machete to help walk the creek.
Where is the creek near Etty Bay, I live next door in Innisfail. I can't recall a creek there unless it is the one going under the one-lane bridge just before going up hill ?
With tripods and mounts mainly, I don't like to chaise the fish as it looks un-natural, I'd rather have them come to the camera naturally, it is a lot more work with plenty of footage taken but worth it in the end.
Yes in the distance, they always seem to hover in the background, I got footage of one at Cooper Creek in the Daintree swimming with Mullet, and some you can faintly see in the background at Freshwater Creek in Cairns, they really don't like my camera though.
I live in the same area and still go, you just need to jump on a plane, you can be there in two hours, I wen't in the morning and spent my first day there at Harvey Creek with Nick, it blew him away 🙂
Yes in some places, they are in some creeks and not in others, it depends on the natural barriers, like waterfalls, but it is definitely something you have to be careful of, I normally use a drone to check for them as a extra precaution.
It's always in the back of your mind, even when you are careful, I normally drone the area first to check, I have seen a few but if I find their around I normally stick to safer areas or to the shallows where I can keep an eye out for them, some areas are pretty safe but others can be a bit of a worry.
interesting, aus fish species, shame ur saying the colourz r there but its grey wash on a tablet or sphone unless i guess it can go higher than 1080 or more, u understand,, love 2 really know what our tropicals look like, great advert for spendthrift adventurours
Hahaha Sorry, and Thank you! I would of liked to do the 3 part series in one video but it may of been to long, half an hour is a good time to sit and relax, it's also a nightmare for me to put so much footage together and takes a long time to render it, but it will give you something to look forward to, I'd prefer to have quality over quantity if I can 🙂
@@australianbiotopes4563 My name, as well as your grandfather's, have Slavic origins, as do the two countries of the Czech Republic and Bulgaria. I'm from Bulgaria. @@miroslavivanov7220 I have been to the Czech Republic twice but never to Bulgaria, I bet it is as nice as the Czech country, I have been asked every year to do that competition, the problem I have is time, it is in the time of year when I go travelling to get content for my videos, best time of the year here to film up north in the dry season, so I am not home much, in the last Russian one I did, I really had to rush the setup and wasn't very happy with it myself even if other people liked it, maybe if I get time I will, I have pulled down my fish room to make a RUclips studio so I can make better content on biotope builds.
I'm not really to worried about algorithm, I do enjoy nature and fish so I would be doing this anyway, so I thought why not share with other people that have similar interests and let them enjoy it with me 🙂
They are here to stay unfortunately, they breed faster then you can remove them and they are everywhere so when the next wet season comes along they get dispersed again from swamps ext.
No I don't breed or sell any fish anymore, I prefer to just film them, I do want certain fish for a future biotope studio, Nick did breed them first and may have some in the future from the f1s he has from these though, but that may take a while before he grows them up and breeds them off.
Yes it's nice, especially the weather, but Canada has some beautiful wilderness as well, my father is from Europe so as a kid I got to see a lot of places in nature as I got to see the excitement and I guess it rubbed off on me, most people that live in a place take it for granted and don't even explore.

Дякую друже , відео як завжди на найвищому рівні ! 💙💛
Дякую за перегляд, я радий, що вам сподобалося.
Poly CK near Innisfail would take you through a scenic 3hr creek stroll to the waterfall (runs down to the Ella Bay National Park beachfront), with a few deep pools along the way.
Mozzy repellent and a machete to help walk the creek.
There is so much I have to explore up there if I ever get the chance to do it, there are just so many beautiful places.
My fav place in Australia. It’s just so dry and meh here in WA. Would love to live in Cairns
Yes it's a nice place 🙂
that tank is fantastic! inspirational. what size is that tank?
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Where is the creek near Etty Bay, I live next door in Innisfail. I can't recall a creek there unless it is the one going under the one-lane bridge just before going up hill ?
That's the one 🙂
oh dear, yes voter here by the looks of it
Thank you! 🙂
Hello, what spiecies is IT at 11:25 , and which ones are male/female (redish/greenish)?
Melanotaenia utcheensis, the males are the ones that are more red, the greener ones are female.
@@australianbiotopes4563 thanks, i totally love green on them.
@@adamek1xd Yes they are nice!
Cool
Thank you! 🙂
Can I ask what camera do you use to film the under water footage?
GoPro, I've used a 7, 10, and 11s all good cameras.
How you keep the camera so steady in water and outside?
With tripods and mounts mainly, I don't like to chaise the fish as it looks un-natural, I'd rather have them come to the camera naturally, it is a lot more work with plenty of footage taken but worth it in the end.
Love your work …. would love yo visit you in the future for a beer. You made my night…
@@DP_386 Thanks mate! sounds good, but I don't drink anymore, so you can have a beer and I'll have a coffee 🙂
@@australianbiotopes4563 coffee or tee are fine… awesome 👏🏼
@@australianbiotopes4563 What camera setup you use?
Ever got any footage of the fresh water herring, tarpon or small fresh water garfish around tully or cairns
Yes in the distance, they always seem to hover in the background, I got footage of one at Cooper Creek in the Daintree swimming with Mullet, and some you can faintly see in the background at Freshwater Creek in Cairns, they really don't like my camera though.
Do they have sail fin mollies in Australia? We have them in the warmer parts of the USA.
Yes you can buy them, I have caught large mollies before that had become feral as well.
just realised i have lost all my footage with the project. I was going to finish and render today.
That's no good, it has happened to me a couple of times, I always double up now.
This is an awesome documentary! Which species of shrimp are those? Does anybody know?
Thank you! they are Macrobrachium tolmerum.
Fackin hell man this a beau-two-full landscape.
Hahaha yes they are, I would even say better in person, I'm happy you enjoyed it 🙂
God I wish I could go to some of thse places. Yet im stuck in Ipswich so ive only got somerset region, which is still really nice tbh.
I live in the same area and still go, you just need to jump on a plane, you can be there in two hours, I wen't in the morning and spent my first day there at Harvey Creek with Nick, it blew him away 🙂
I like fresh water fish....
Yes they are nice to watch, very relaxing, I could spend hours in the water.
Awesome, thanks for sharing! Did you come across any freshwater crabs around this area?
Thank You! not not as yet, I should go out more at night in future, I have found them at night out west.
did you have to keep an eye out for crocodiles?
Yes in some places, they are in some creeks and not in others, it depends on the natural barriers, like waterfalls, but it is definitely something you have to be careful of, I normally use a drone to check for them as a extra precaution.
Where you worried about crocs at any stage of filming ?
It's always in the back of your mind, even when you are careful, I normally drone the area first to check, I have seen a few but if I find their around I normally stick to safer areas or to the shallows where I can keep an eye out for them, some areas are pretty safe but others can be a bit of a worry.
their camouflage is incredible. Even in crystal clear water they are extremely hard to spot. Stay safe.@@australianbiotopes4563
interesting, aus fish species, shame ur saying the colourz r there but its grey wash on a tablet or sphone unless i guess it can go higher than 1080 or more, u understand,, love 2 really know what our tropicals look like, great advert for spendthrift adventurours
Go get some underwater film of a Bloomfield cod ... ;)
If I ever get the chance, I will, but it all comes down to money and time.
@@australianbiotopes4563 It would be ummmm lots of fun .... if you survived the Salties up there...
@@ThePaulpope It wouldn't be the first time I've had a close call 🙂
Your video has one drawback - it ends
Hahaha Sorry, and Thank you! I would of liked to do the 3 part series in one video but it may of been to long, half an hour is a good time to sit and relax, it's also a nightmare for me to put so much footage together and takes a long time to render it, but it will give you something to look forward to, I'd prefer to have quality over quantity if I can 🙂
@@australianbiotopes4563 Just wanted to say you made an amazing video.
Also, your biotope aquariums are a work of art. You have a great channel!
@@miroslavivanov7220 Thank you! that means a lot, My grandfathers name was Miroslav, I just thought about it when I saw your name, he was from Brno.
@@australianbiotopes4563 My name, as well as your grandfather's, have Slavic origins, as do the two countries of the Czech Republic and Bulgaria. I'm from Bulgaria. It is located in Eastern Europe, on the west coast of the Black Sea. I am thinking in the future to make an aquarium with an underwater landscape based on your videos, which have inspired me. I wish you all the best and keep uploading videos like I said they are great!
Oh, I'd forgotten. You should enter the biotope aquarium competition, but the one organized by Heiko Blecher.
I hope that I have written intelligibly, because my language is not very good
@@miroslavivanov7220 I have been to the Czech Republic twice but never to Bulgaria, I bet it is as nice as the Czech country, I have been asked every year to do that competition, the problem I have is time, it is in the time of year when I go travelling to get content for my videos, best time of the year here to film up north in the dry season, so I am not home much, in the last Russian one I did, I really had to rush the setup and wasn't very happy with it myself even if other people liked it, maybe if I get time I will, I have pulled down my fish room to make a RUclips studio so I can make better content on biotope builds.
Yep, guess all comments help with the algorithm hey.
I'm not really to worried about algorithm, I do enjoy nature and fish so I would be doing this anyway, so I thought why not share with other people that have similar interests and let them enjoy it with me 🙂
Can the feral platys and other fish be removed? They may out compete the native fish and make them extinct. Would be a big job.
They are here to stay unfortunately, they breed faster then you can remove them and they are everywhere so when the next wet season comes along they get dispersed again from swamps ext.
Are u selling them in the pet trade ?
No I don't breed or sell any fish anymore, I prefer to just film them, I do want certain fish for a future biotope studio, Nick did breed them first and may have some in the future from the f1s he has from these though, but that may take a while before he grows them up and breeds them off.
As an exotic animal finatic id give anything to live in aus rather than canada
Yes it's nice, especially the weather, but Canada has some beautiful wilderness as well, my father is from Europe so as a kid I got to see a lot of places in nature as I got to see the excitement and I guess it rubbed off on me, most people that live in a place take it for granted and don't even explore.
i wish i would’ve moved to queensland any one here from dubbo nsw
Sorry mate, I'm from Brisbane, I went to Dubbo a lot of years ago just to see the zoo.
Isn't that like....salties area?...and therefore dangerous.
It can be, local knowledge goes a long way, some places are safe and some not so safe, I have seen a few though.
@@australianbiotopes4563 Them and sharks are my fear in and around water bodies and bears on land.
