    You can go in-between pins with enough hook. Most 5 pin bowlers throw straight and only use rotation for pin carry. Some alleys do have an oil pattern, but it tapers off at around 40 feet

      I used to be able to throw the ball straight when I was younger but now being so used to "hooking" the ball it's harder to get the desired effect for five pin, duckpin, candlepin bowling. Straight is much better.

  • @craigpetroskey8934
    @craigpetroskey8934 Месяц назад

    To throw the ball more accurately, follow the maxim...reach out over the spot! Right handed bowlers, your ball should roll between the centre arrow and the arrow immediately to the left of the centre arrow. If your ball tends to drift left as it rolls down the lane it could cross in front of the headpin and hit the left pocket resulting in a 'crossover' strike. If your ball runs straight, it could hit the right pocket and you might get a 'normal' strike. The 'pocket' for strikes, spares, and cleaning up the headpin is where the ball hits the headpin on it's left or right 1/3 face of the headpin itself. If you are right handed a hit on the right pocket tends to carry the 2 3 5 pins away to the left and the right 3 2 pins usually get carried away or contacted by the ball itself.

    For the record, for decades both string pin and free fall 5-pin bowling existed. I was a youth bowler at a centre with I believe the 81-5 free fall pinsetters and I've also bowled on lanes with the old Double Diamond pinsetters.

  • @nelsonoberg9747
    @nelsonoberg9747 Месяц назад

    Those lanes weren't auto scoring so you have to manually reset after your 3 balls. If you were bowling with others, i imagine they would turn on the auto score system. As others said, don't roll your wrist to hook the ball, the lighter weight means the balls dance much more across the lane than 10 pin balls. In 5 pin you actually try and use the markers the lane to aim.

    Next time you try 5-pin, try to splay your fingers more around the ball as you don't really want the ball on your palm as that will decrease your accuracy. Next try to get lower and release the ball closer to the ground, you want to roll the ball more than throw it. The pins aren't numbered like in 10-pin. There's the center or head pin (5pts), the adjacent pins are colloquially called the left or right "three" pins as they are worth three points, and finally the left and right corner pins. (2pts). I hope you had fun and get to try it again soon. It's one of my favorite activities here at home in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Don't worry, it's really hard for us Canadians too! The Canadian 5-pin Bowling Association usually recognizes only 10-12 perfect games (450pts) per YEAR! Please try it again the next time you visit your neighbours to the North, I would love to see more videos of you 5-pin bowling.

    • @scottrobb651
      @scottrobb651 Год назад

      It is her instinct to go with what she knows. the vast majority of 5 pin bowlers throw an back up delivery which is the last thing most ten pin bowlers would think to do. Plus too much speed kills because you dont get the proper ampunt of deflection to carry all the pins. It is finding the balance between speed and accuracy.

    • @scottrobb651
      @scottrobb651 Год назад +1

      no the oil is only put down in the first few feet to protect the normal landing area of the ball. different type than an ten pin lane ball doesnt absorb it or carry it down. When five pin bowlers wipe their ball down it isnt lane oil as much their own body oil and sweat.

  • @jonathanjones3538
    @jonathanjones3538 11 месяцев назад

    In 5 pin you have to throw the bowling ball straight. Hooking in 5 pin is not good as it causes major pin and bowling ball deflection. And the bowling ball can go between pins if you hook it. 5 pin bowling is meant for only straight shot. There may be a little break near the end of the lane but only slightly. But no need to purposely throw a hook

    • @scottrobb651

      yes most 5 pin lanes are string pins although an few houses are "free fall" like ten pin. Strings add an different layer of complexity depending on how tight or loose the strings are. tight strings and pins dont move as much after contact so fewer messenger type reactions.

    • @scottrobb651
      @scottrobb651 Год назад +3

      Yes unlike candlepin there have been perfect games. on average there are about 15 -30 sanctioned perfect games per year in Canada ( according to C5PBA ) so far less than 10 pin. only an handful of players have every shot more than one. when i was bowling 5 pin the best bowlers would average around 270 in league play hit 300+ in tournament play League play is usually 3 games with some invite leagues being 4 games To be considered an average league bowler men would around 180 and women around 150. as far as throwing the ball Sarah was doing well actually but still thinking hook to get angle into the pocket. pocket entry angle is much more shallow in 5 pin because you need ball deflection to take out one side of pins while center pin takes out other side.Oil doesnt play an large role in 5 pin as there are no patterns and the ball doesnt pick up or carry down oil. Rather the difficulty in 5 pin comes in the precision of hitting the small target area for strikes. for those interested or just curious ruclips.net/video/rdEIrdysVjs/видео.html will explain better rhan i can type it
