Honesty when heard from an oppressor simply seems like anger. Especially to the oppressor whom thinks he is offering you the gift of life by simply allowing one the right to breathe. Don't expect water, food, clothing, or shelter becsuse then you're just being pushy.
@@daniel0060 Exactly. They always reflexively call the revelation of the TRUTH "angry". It is a way of dismissing or discrediting the legitimacy of that truth. That is the primary reason that so many lies and distortions continue to be taught and so many facts remain hidden. People steeped and indoctrinated in a belief system or to believe something often are incapable of adjusting to new conflicting stimuli and reevaluating what they have been taught and have accepted as the truth because it means amending their entire belief system and what they attributed to their "knowledge".
he didn't say it as a put down. Do The Right Thing is one of the most influential and best films of all time. You can't say that it isn't angry as well. Its righteous visceral anger contributes to its brilliance.
William Shaw I did see a face in the crowd. I have put the criterion collection version of A Face in the Crowd on my list. It's Awesome and Andy Griffith was legendary in it along with Walter Matthau.
Even beyond race. The movie is about satire and at what level does it become not worth creating. If 10% of the audience like it for the wrong reason is that to high of a number?
Bamboozled with an Arab slant could also have been done. Someone was asking me about the brutality of October 7th. I asked back: "Did Nat Turner's rebellion take place in a vacuum? Was Spartacus' slave rebellion caused by the slaves? Was Attica caused by the prisoners?" You can take people and you can break them, but past the point where their lives don't matter to them lies a dangerous place. There is no justification for October 7th, only understanding. The number of 34,000 dead civilians has stood for a month now because Israel finished killing the counters.
Hollywood canceled this film for 20 years. Only Amazon Prime Video has this. Damon Wayans not getting an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor? That was intentional. What upsets me is Spike still wants to be in the gang. Except Hollywood only wants him when it comes to supporting their politics by rallying black people. I give you Bernie Sanders in 2016 and 2020. Not to hurt Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden, but to hurt any Republican that comes down the pike. Including the "UnRepublican" in Donald Trump.
Spike made a big mistake with Bamboozled where he used blackface. We were ahead of that. I understand he wanted to make a point on how blacks on TV are always depicted in comedy and not drama, but doing the blackface is wrong since we are ahead of this.
it was a commentary on selling out and what the cost of selling out is and what the value of dialogue is and can that value justify how you stirred it in the first place.... I hear you ( I had to stop watching cause I was embarrassed).
Nobody carries an emotional tone throughout an entire film like Spike Lee. He is truly a master of his craft.
Bamboozled was maybe his worst film, but always thought provoking.
It was not an angry film. It was an honest film!
it can be both.
Honesty when heard from an oppressor simply seems like anger. Especially to the oppressor whom thinks he is offering you the gift of life by simply allowing one the right to breathe. Don't expect water, food, clothing, or shelter becsuse then you're just being pushy.
I don’t see how this film was anything other than factually correct.

His most underrated and honest film
The movie was very underrated!!!!
I KNEW IT! Spike was inspired by Network from Sidney Lumet!!! I should see A Face in the Crowd.
I thought the same...excellent film sooo ahead of it's time!
Network is a timeless story and the fact it’s become reality means it needs to keep being told until society finally wakes up.
Yes, you should.
William Shaw I did see a face in the crowd. I have put the criterion collection version of A Face in the Crowd on my list. It's Awesome and Andy Griffith was legendary in it along with Walter Matthau.
I'd go from pissed to tears too.......like you really sat in that joint for 15 years and you're asking for that help every single day...365.......

Nah- we aren't ahead of that. We weren't then and we aren't now. If it made you uncomfortable that is good.

it’s June 13, 2020... literally 20 years after this movie came out. AND WE CLEARLY ARE NOT PAST THIS.
