MARCH 1979.....8 AM....HEARD ORIGINAL ST TIME EN ROUTE FROM NIGHT SHIFT AND DAILY AFTERWARD FOR A MONTH...THIS AIN'T IT...SOUNDED MORE LIKE RAY STEVENS AND THE NOTE IN THE LYRICS WERE DIFFERENT THAN THIS "DAY CARE SOUNDING" VERSION...I'M POSITIVE OF THAT......IT WAS LESS BUBBLE GUMMY AND HAD MORE VOICE RANGE VARIATION.....GO FIGURE...THE ORIGINAL HAD A BACKUP GROUP TOO...MUCH BOUNCIER...I REMEMBER THE BACKUP GIRLS MORE AND THE PERKIER FASTER TEMPO MOST OF ALL. IF IT WAS THIS GOOB....HE RERECORDED IT...PLAYED ONLY ON ONE STATION IN MY AREA AND SURELY REGIONALLY MORE POPULAR IN TENNESSEE....YEEE HAAAAA!!!
I was working at 15WLAC radio in Nashville when this came out. It was done by Brian Christie , Ch. 2 weatherman. Channel 2 sent a video crew to the station to shot the story. The actual 45 record didn't exist yet, so we made a bogus" 45 to look like the real thing.....Man, what a time in history!
I taped this off a local station, but it was a different recording. I understand that the publishers of "Chattanooga Choo-Choo" wanted to sue, and this version sounds a lot like that song. I loved the song & couldn't stand Ray Blanton, who was Governor when my family moved to TN.
If my memory serves me correctly, Lamar Alexander won the governor's race over the Democratic nominee for the office - Jake Butcher, who brought the World's fair to the "Scruffy Little City", Knoxville - and then went to prison for financial misdeeds involving his United American Bank.
Nice to hear the original version of this. Still have this on a 45.

I liv 35 miles from Nashville and remember when this happened. It was a bad and embarrassing hit for the Tennessee citizens.
Catchy
The Rachel Maddow Show brought me here,by triggering the memories of that story,lol...🤣😂🤣

Yes and Lamars inauguration was pushed up by 3 days to stop Ray from pardoning more people
The democrats didn't have a chance of winning no matter whether it be Jake Butcher or anyone else. Blanton ruined that election.
Don't forget Southern industrial banking.
Guess its gone federal
