You don't really have to mess around boot order in bios. every motherboard has SATA plugs for first and second boot. SATA 0 indicated on a motherboard is the first boot. SATA 1 is for the second boot. All you have to do is to figure out which one goes in for which drive. it reduces the complication. Since boot order is messed around, SATA 0 and SATA 1 order is now changed.
I chose to do a clean W10 install instead. Too much bloatware included on the hdd. Buying an ssd installation kit w/ all the cables, screws, and screwdriver is a good investment. I got mine for $9 on Amazon. Like the video says the included screws are worthless. If you have trouble doing the clean W10 install and end up getting stuck on the "Getting Installation Files Ready" phase I have two suggestions.... 1) Try putting the usb drive in another port. My install was successful after switching from a 3.0 to a 2.0 port. 2) Following these steps may help you: run installer, after 1st screen where it asks for languages, select repair this pc, not install (yet) select troubleshoot select advanced select command prompt Enter the following command into the prompt; rundll32.exe pnpclean.dll,RunDLL_PnpClean /DRIVERS /MAXCLEAN Random stuff: Installing the sata cable to the mobo can be a real chore if you don't want to take the case apart. It can be done (I did it!). But, if you have big sausage fingers you might not be so lucky. The other two cables plugged into the mobo only leave the middle sata port open. So, it's a *Very tight fit* getting that cable to plug into the middle port. And, in my experience installing a Sandisk Ultra 250gb ssd I had to push the wires down on the sata power cable to get the proper connection to the ssd. You are going under the metal frame with very little clearance. I know this is long winded. But, if this makes the process easier for you (one noob to another :) I'm glad I could help. I got my pc back up and downloading the necessary drivers atm. Definitely make sure you go to Nvidia's website and download the latest drivers. Windows downloads all the vitals automatically (don't panic if at first you don't have sound either). ....If I can think of anything else I'll edit this later. ....Have fun :)
Glad I could help. With the ssd, and a clean install of W10 my pc boots up in about 5 seconds. So far gaming has been pretty great. I was actually prepared for slightly worse performance. But, I have another pc that I use for just about everything else. I use this new one just for gaming. I've been playing Watchdogs 2, and Dying Light. Load times are a fraction of the PS4, and the frame-rate is a smooth 60fps.

Just do a clean install of W10. Go to MS's website and download the W10 media creation tool to a usb drive 8gb or larger. The difference is huge. I have a comment on here that pretty much walks you through the process. I had some trouble doing the install using one of the usb 3.0 ports. I switched to 2.0 and it worked.
Pretty solid budget gaming pc. Bought one at Christmas time. Added a 500gb SSD as a boot drive and to do a clean install of W10. Booting is so quick now. Plays games like War Thunder and Fortnite very well.

1) yeah you can create system image into storage drive. however, i recommend to format it completely so that OS doesn't get confused. 2) ebay sells the window 10 cd for 10~15 bucks. sellers buy the license key in bulk so it's genuine. it's one key per device.
I have quite the problem, my 580-023w Isn't able to go into bios. I've tried many many different times, trying many different solutions. I'd appreciate any help regarding this, from anyone!
I just bought a new HP laptop and installed a new Ne SSD and cloned the original WIndows HD to the SSD, but when I go to the bios to change boot disk, it don't see the HD or the SSD; I only see boot manager. NOt sure how to configure from this point.
1) Will this work for a laptop? 2) Are you sure the recovery manager will restore even if my main drive was 1tb and second is about 256gb(ssd) will it still work properly? 3) Is there a better way then unplugging the hard disk?
Any time I do this, I just use the Windows 10 Media Creation tool to burn an image of Win10 to a Thumbdrive. After that, I'll get the drivers from HP's or whoever's website.
Is there any way at all I can do this without anything else external? I do not have a flash drive that is over the 11gb's that are required for the back up, and even if I did my computer has over 950gb's of storage being used.

I was having this problem before, I dont know if you guys solved it but for anyone else having this exact problem, you just need to remove your USB after it copies the files (Before it starts restarting)

Because if I remember, my computer would copy the files from the USB, then the screen would go black and it would say that "System recovery did not complete." Hey so, are you using the M3 screws? I tried the screws this pc came with and it was pretty hard screwing it in with the case. I'm buying a different SSD though, western digital. But I'm sure it can use the same one you're using since it's a 2.5".
I have a HP desktop a Ryzen 5 3400g. It has a z: drive and on that drive there is HP tools. I want to change that letter to g: but I don’t know if it would affect the HP tools. Do you have to use HP recovery to do a reimage to SSD? I was considering using a Third party program called Macrium Reflect to achieve this and using rescue media it allows you to load to a usb drive to load image to a new drive.
As long as the bios can recognize it as the boot device, some have trouble with this (EFEI, Legacy, etc). The OS is digitally registered to the machine and what I would do is build and download the image builder from Microsoft and do a clean install try first (just keep your original HD as-is for restoring back if needed in this process). This way you get a fresh install of Windows w/o all the HP bloat.
Are SATA cables universal or is it specific to the motherboard? Anyone know how to find out which sata cable one would need if it is specific to motherboards? Thanks.
You will need to install windows directly onto your ssd bc most likely that is where you would want to run the os from. Recovery media is just one way of copying the windows

So I followed all of this. But the new ssd doesn't show up in boot order for me. Shows the HDD one only. And I set up everything the same way as you! Ugh. Just want it to boot up in SSD and HDD for storage. :( Do I need to install updates any everything first after the recovery finishes?? I've got the hp pavilion 690 0013w the bios doesn't have anything like the hp pavilion p67xx series and the mb on has 3 sata at max I have 2 500gb ssds and can't get either of them for boot.
@@Kraxt0n if you remove the old mechanical hdd and leave only the ssd you want yo boot from you should be fine. I've done it on 3 of these for my side business. Your other option is m.2 ssd as well for your model. I did 2 m.2 and 1 ssd with no issues.

Mine will not show the uefi pny ssd in the boot tab but it does show its there in other parts of the bios.. Ive been working on this for like 20 hours now
@@Marlipiegos yes i actually got it. but what i did was copied my drive and unhooked EVERYTHING else from the pc using sata connections....hold on ill pull up where i posted this in the hp forums right quick. my first reply was not what i though this was about. ive since long moved away from this hp prebuilt but i do remember pretty much EVERY hiccup this prebuilt caused. i in turn removed the CPU, swapped ram, hdd and new ssd i installed out and built a new machine. since then tho i now have a b550 gaming edge, r5 5600x 2070s ftw3 ultra 3 nvme drives adding about 4.5tb of space, 2 ssd drives 500gb a piece.... you get my point...but yea gimmie a minute the hp support page is slow AF for some reason....

Harrison Adams Unfortunately not. The m.2 socket on this pc's mobo is an *m.2 wlan key a* which is used for wifi/bluetooth, and cellular cards. I just bought this same model and had to do a little research on the matter myself. There are some misguided folks in the customer reviews saying that this pc supports them. I was excited at first too. Now I am shopping for a good ssd.

I don't have a large USB drive. Will it still work if I put hp recovery onto 3 DVD-Rs? Nervous because I already started burning onto disk 1.
yes, it should - but if it fails, if you contact HP they can provide a backup image.

I just upgraded my Power Supply to a 550W, I believe you can upgrade the GPU.

Victor Dural I would recommend just upgrading to any semi or fully modular 80+ rated 500 watt supply
just make sure that the gpu you get fits the pc tower,otherwise you have to transplant everything to a bigger tower! (same goes for power supply)

Migrate or clone your os from your Hdd to your ssd. Go into your bios and change your boot order.
I used maricum and I don't have any option to change boot order other wise i wouldn't have to to this

Is the computer compatible with any ram?
DDR4 RAM only
Mine will not show the uefi pny ssd in the boot tab but it does show its there in other parts of the bios.. Ive been working on this for like 20 hours now

@@Marlipiegos yes i actually got it. but what i did was copied my drive and unhooked EVERYTHING else from the pc using sata connections....hold on ill pull up where i posted this in the hp forums right quick. my first reply was not what i though this was about. ive since long moved away from this hp prebuilt but i do remember pretty much EVERY hiccup this prebuilt caused. i in turn removed the CPU, swapped ram, hdd and new ssd i installed out and built a new machine. since then tho i now have a b550 gaming edge, r5 5600x 2070s ftw3 ultra 3 nvme drives adding about 4.5tb of space, 2 ssd drives 500gb a piece.... you get my point...but yea gimmie a minute the hp support page is slow AF for some reason....
@@Marlipiegos hopfully i made a little sense from my second comment to ya.... as i didnt have the 580 i had the 0013 690w version. so my bios was locked quite a bit more. but i do believe the same limitations will apply if the bios is locked.... sorry i respond like i do. im trying to counter any questions or wtf's that may come from you before they get wrote down. point is pay attention to my second comment. thats where youll find how i got mine to work. sounds dumb but it worked for quite a few people.

you can but remember that it only has 3 SATA slots and DVD drive also uses a SATA slot

Harrison Adams Unfortunately not. The m.2 socket on this pc's mobo is an *m.2 wlan key a* which is used for wifi/bluetooth, and cellular cards.
I just bought this same model and had to do a little research on the matter myself.
There are some misguided folks in the customer reviews saying that this pc supports them. I was excited at first too. Now I am shopping for a good ssd.

This was a nightmare. For anyone in the future just search : your manufacture copy hdd to ssd and follow that. HP Recovery Manager is a shit show.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD JUST CLONE YOU OLD HDD TO YOUR SSD. THE SOFTWARE IS FREE. SEARCH IT ON RUclips. I WASTED 2 TO 3 HOURS OF MY LIFE. AFTER THE CLONEING IS DONE CHANGE THE BOOT ORDER TO HAVE THE SSD GO FIRST. HEAD MY ADVICE
