- “Ibong Adarna” is one of six surviving pre-war Filipino films. Journalist Jeff Canoy delves into the history of the making of the 1941 classic, our lost film history and the fight to restore and protect Philippine films for the future generations. This 2020 documentary was produced in celebration of 100 Years of Philippine Cinema.

Golden Era of Films: Imagine in South east asia alone there is only 3 major movie producing countries and that include our beloved Philippines. 60 films a year? and mostly musical and drama? The Philippine cinema during those days can compete to other industries(example: Bollywood of India). Ang galing. Kaka proud!
Pwede nmn mag compete ang bansa natin today eh. Kaya lng ung budget di kaya kung ikumpara mo sa ibang bansa. Atsaka mostly mga generation ngayon more on korean drama na ang pinapanood mahirap makisabay lalo na pag classic films ang gagawin mong adaptaion to the next gen.

I hope the government finds ways to preserve old movies. When they fall into public domain, the next generation of directors and film makers will have an easy access and process to recreate old movies the way they want to.
I hope and wish, when everything's well with ABS that ABS News also get to produce more documentaries like this.

Gusto kong manumbalik ang Filipino cinema sa kalidad, at hindi MMFF na kalidad, kundi totoong kalidad ang hanap ko; ang dapat hanap nating lahat. Napagiiwanan na tayo ng South Korean cinema, pero kaya nating makipagsabayan kung bibigyang lugar ulit ang intelehente ang malikhaing paglikha ng pelikulang Pilipino.

It's very sad na halos lahat ng old films natin noon ay hindi naka survive at hindi naalagaa n ng maayos dahil narin sa kapabayaan ng mga naupo sa ating gobyerno. Magpapatunay pa sanang tayo ang may kauna unahang magagandang nagwang movies sa ASIA... talagang dekalibre lahat ng ating mga napanood na old movies na kahit magpasa hanggang ngayon ay may iilan lamang na nananatiling buhay pa at patuloy paring ipinapakilala sa kulturang Pilipino.. sana'y pagtuunan din sana ng pansin ng ating gobyerno ang pag preserved ng ating mga natatagong yaman na makakatulong sa atin sa susunod pang henerasyon.

I'm able to watch the restored version of Giliw ko in Metropolitan Theater. While watching, I tried to immerse myself in the film and try to feel as if I was watching it in 1939.

Ang lupit na pala ng film industry natin dati walang pa ring panama sa ngayon pati mga Director natin.....yung pag gawa ng Ibong Adarna katapat nya yung gumawa ng Ten Commandments....sayang at napabayaan natin lahat...yung cast at yung film itself napaka majestic na....si Mila Del Sol nakakainlove yung Filipina beauty niya...yung cast, production yung Ibong Adarna itself is National Treasure na buti na lang na preserve.

Kokonti lang kasi sa mga pilipino ang interested sa pag collect sa memorabilias tipikal dahil sa maliit na espasyo. Common filipino mentality. Minsan kahit masira ang mga films, kung sana nag create ng copy bago masira ang original at isinabay sa pagbabago ng technology from film to vynil to beta to vhs, to cd to hdd to ssd sana may copy pa tayo na restored o remastered
May kopya nitong Ibong Adarna (1940) rito sa RUclips, dinownload ko at ito talaga ang ginamit kong panturo sa Grade 7 noon, kahit kasi black and white pa pero nakabase halos lahat sa tunay na mga pangyayari sa aklat. Bilang guro, masaya ako na sa pamamagitan ng makabagong teknolohiya ay mape-preserve na ito.

We need a documentary on ABS-CBN Film Restoration's work on Giliw Ko, which was released in 1939. I watched some parts of it when it was being livestreamed on its FB and now I'm amazed by the process it took!
