Such a good reminder that design is a process! We can’t always have everything on point at all times. We all have to go through trial and error. I was going absolutely nuts when I would buy something and it didn’t work out, but it is what it is!
And that its totally OK to make mistakes and not like something as time goes on!!!
So true,thanks for the reminder.
Definitely but we need to be conscious of money badly spent, which can put a dent on your financial well being, and the stuff that is going to end up at a landfill if it cannot be repurposed or donated.
I’m a native Las Vegasinian
I love thrift shopping and refurbishing and diying I’m a single mother of 3 I have to save every penny so I can pinch when we can!!
I love watching your videos!!! You just make me happy
Dear Arvin, Congratulations on being a feature with Studio McGee!!! 🎉
Thank you also for continuing to bring great content to us. Really appreciate you sharing your honest experiences on trend and home decor. All the best!
That's what I'm here for :)
I know you just said you hated IKEA, but their Vindum shag rug is the most comfortable rug my feet have ever touched. It was at a friend’s house and I just wanted to lay on the floor. Bought one for my own living room and it doesn’t shed at all - even with two crazy cats clawing it! Plus it is speckled/heathered so it hides all dirt.
Kallax is perfect for areas you don't care about being "designy" though. I love them for my craft room, and our gaming room. Face it, a room full of board games, video games, D&D minis, and Marvel movie posters is never going to look chic, and it doesn't have to.
RECORD STORAGE
I sincerely ADORE how you educate us plebs on your art. 🙏
IKEA is more affordable than many of the alternatives. I’ve used my Kallax as closet organizers in two apartments with bins in each of the cubbies. I got them when I lived in a ridiculously small studio apartment with a tiny closet. I also got a wardrobe and a daybed. I had no furniture to start with and I was so happy to have an apartment that was functional and cozy. That said, since then, I’ve purchased a bistro table from Pottery Barn and a sofa from Crate and Barrel. I’ll upgrade when I can but I’m happy to have solid wood furniture from IKEA.
Many decor influencers talk about saving enough to purchase quality in your style. IMO saving money and knowing what your style is takes time to cultivate. In some situations, they are at odds with one another. You know your style but don't have the money, or you have a budget but not sure if the style is a trend or a treasure. Until I'm comfortable when the budget, quality, and style factors meet, I would purchase affordable and functional furniture in the meantime. You and I have the same decor philosophy.
I feel like it’s easy to rip on ikea but you are spot on about functionality. At the end of the day your home has to be functional not just aesthetic. I think ikea does an admiral job of being functional and trying to work in some aesthetic options (or basic cheap things that you can hack to match an aesthetic). I respect them more than RH which offers way too much faux wood items for insane prices.
Arvin you are totally allowed to dislike Ikea. Nothing wrong with admitting it isn't your style. 💖
I bought a bar height table because I thought I would love it. I like sitting at them when I go out to dinner or for drinks. I literally hate the table. So I completely agree with you on that about having one in the home
Yes, I agree! I hate them. Even in a bar, it's uncomfortable. Give me a booth!
I imagine that tall tables don't work if you have a family member or frequent visitor who uses a wheelchair.
Congrats on the feature! Well deserve, my dear. I had a pub table in my small condo. But as I'm older now, I find them to be uncomfortable to sit in for a long period. I now have a dining table from the 40s and comfy padded chairs. It also goes better with my vintage decor.
Congrats Arvin!! Growing and it’s showing. All your hard work is paying off 💪🏼❤️
Thank you
Hi Arvin! I have a bar height table from All Modern, and I love it! It only seats two, so not necessarily a dining room option. I live in a studio apartment, so having that height difference helps differentiate my spaces.
Yay, Arvin’s back! I didn’t realize how addicted I am to your videos until you took a week off 😂🤍🤍🤍 I love these because it’s always a check for me as to whether or not I’m on the right track with my home decor purchasing, and I love when I pass with flying colors 😂🤎🤎
Hahah miss you too!!!! Sometimes we all need a little time off. And so happy you loved the video.
Estaba pensando igual 😂😂😂😂
Congrats to you Arvin! I am so happy you’re getting the recognition you deserve. You are a one of a kind creator and we’re so lucky to have you grace our screens! Xo
Congratulations on your Studio McGee feature. You deserve having your work acknowledged. You rock Arvin.
A flooring store can order any size carpet for an area rug, and if the manufacturers don't cut and bind to size ( some do)there are businesses that do it. They pick up your carpet from. The store, cut and bind it and return it to the store. It's a charge by the linear foot and you can get those wonderful fibers that have the stain proofing incorporated with the fibers in the extruder so they litteraly cannot absorb stains!! I had one made for my daughter. She would put it on the driveway, hose or pressure wash it off, let it dry , flip it over let it dry on the back, and bring it back in the house. In summer on a 100!° day it will dry both sides in a day. Great fir dogs and small children. Cheaper in larger sizes than purchasing area rugs. Also carpet remnants can be used for this purpose! Make sure they are triexta fiber!!
Congrats on the feature Arvin! You totally deserve it and there is so much more to come for you!! 🥰
Wow! Congrats on your feature!
My sister had a bar height table with chair stools. She was 4'11". She had to get a step stool to sit. Really. She did. Gotta agree on grey wood. It just looks dull and dirty to me. (i don't like grey anything, tho)
My mom and I love watching your videos! We’ve learned so much from you and we adore your sweet personality and design expertise ♥️♥️♥️
To me my favorite find during 2020 was this channel. Gave me some good laughs and so much inspo... it was just more or less a thousand subscribers- and still love this... I’m always waiting for the next video.
Congratulations on your feature, it’s been wonderful to see your style evolution. You’re all grown up now but somehow still down to earth. Wishing you the best this year!
I agree on all accounts and i do have a burnt Orange pillow and a rusty orange sheet in my bedroom 😅 but i love them! Can i just be desert modern instead of college boho dorm room 😂
The gorgeous copper orange color in your Studio McGee pics is not an accident. The lounger under you is exactly the thing. I can hear it, colors are coming.
Definitely working with strong earth colors this year!!!
Great video! Happy to see you back! Congrats on the Studio McGee layout🤗
Soooo good! Especially the tip about the burnt sienna linens. Love the idea of earthy tones, browns, and toffees in place of that. 💯
I know Arvin is going to disagree with me on this but I was given an indoor/outdoor rug, its grey and taupe diamond pattern but they do have them in natural colours that look like jute rugs. This thing has been through the ringer with my cat and dog. My cat even sharpens her claws on the carpet and this thing looks the same as it did 6 years ago when it was given to me as a hand me down. I've even dropped a plate of spaghetti on it and the stains just wiped away. I feel like it's indestructible.
I've never tried that!!
I use indoor/outdoor rugs as jute rugs and I swear the same! My cat scratches on them and I swear the one in my kitchen literally absorbs stains. All from target
Yes, that is what I have in my laundry room. Perfect for rough treatment.
I have 2 dogs, 2 cats and a boot wearing husband. I use outdoor/indoor rugs also. Life is too short.
I absolutely agree that grey wood things definitely look cold and sad. I love your taste in home decor and you give great advice!
Oh my gosh, I was just looking at jute rugs so I am so grateful for your review. We have 2 dogs and a cat so now I will be taking rugs off of my wishlist. Congratulations on the article feature - well deserved! Also, you look fire today. 🔥🔥🔥
Arvin might delete this comment but the machine-washable Ruggable Re-Jute rugs may be worth a look 😅🤫
@@SaraWhiteChi Lol I wont' delete it!! I've never tried those :P
Avoid jute at all costs! They look amazing in editorials, and work fine for low traffic areas, but wear terribly like Arvin said, and I've found them to trap dirt and dust far more than other materials
Dear, doggie or cat pee ruins hardwood floors, just get washable rugs I'm disabled and believe me very nose sensitive... That Smell Would Have me in the ER Quickly... I use Tide Pods x4 in 1 Ultra-Oxi For that Exact Reason....& Wash my Rugs with a shampooer for dogs with The Green Clean added in to get rid of All things spilled or smells once every six months in Wall to Wall Carpets as this Little Tiny Male unneuerted Dogs are the worst at peeing !!!! Washable Rugs are the best on top to Protect the floors, the valuables, and one's Sanity
Actually I love jute rugs and I've always had one in my home in some space. Right now I have one in my dining room and I have no problems. We are empty-nesters and have no pets, but on Sundays, my daughter and her family with three teenagers and a small dog come over, and it's fine. It might be because there is just about 2 ft around the table and chairs, so it's not getting full on traffic. I just really love the look.
Bravo Arvin! The features of you is only the beginning. From the day you started your channel, watching the rug show, I knew you’d go far. I’m glad you got to unplug and enjoy your birthday. It’s great seeing how much you’ve grown and I have no doubt you’ll continue to grow. Xx
When I lived in Italy 12 years ago, I got a beautiful Persian rug from Iranian Loom that is thick and absolutely amazing, and believe me.. it looks new, just like if I purchased it recently. Exactly the same color, texture, etc
I have a Persian rug that I purchased on eBay knowing it was previously used (and some areas show a bit of wear / colour discolouration (from the sun). I would love to replace the rug because I now gravitate to earthy palette but I am having a hard time finding a reasonable replacement because I have two dogs (although they are perfectly house broken [rare] accidents do happen when diarrhea strikes etc.). Plus the old Persian rug is so luxuriously thick ..... And every time I vacuum with my Dyson it still looks great. So I continue to be undecided (and I keep looking).
I’m 50/50 on these. From a purely style point I agree on the kallax but I think they serve a purpose especially for kids rooms. I’m the opposite on Grey wood on the other hand. I completely love the cooler tones and really don’t like anything with dark wood or walnut. It’s all personal preference. Love your videos !!!
TOTALLY it is preference :D
I agree I love Grey wood more then regular wood. I can’t even explain it when I see regular wood furniture I automatically think of my grandmas house.
Congrats on the Studio McGee shoot! It looks amazing! Keep up the great work, I and so many others love watching your videos! You give me inspiration on decorating my own space, because we have a similar style. I love everything you’ve done with your home and love seeing all your new pieces! 🤎
5 years ago, my husband threw away our jute rug because it’s always dirty and ours was uncomfortable to walk on. He was right, but it has taken me awhile to get over it. 😂
My husband threw away a wool rug. I'm NEVER going to get over it.😉
My husband threw our jute rug away! I was so mad! 😆
I threw my jute rug away
But not sure what to buy now I have two little ones and a dog
Can you guys please advice
Congrats on your McGee moment!!! LOVING that journey for you!!! XO
Oh, Arvin! Splendid as always! I love to see how your style evolves. And YES, refined! My current design dilemma is rugs over carpet? We're in a rental and can't rip the stuff up. Ah well, in the meantime I'll watch more of your videos.
I'd go for it! Apartments are tricky because you need to fit in so much in one or two rooms. Rugs are a good way to divide your dining area from your office area from your lounging area so it doesn't feel like you're always in the same space. Just keep them small enough so they don't overwhelm the area.
Layered rugs is a great look. Just make sure you use a good rug pad. They make pads specifically for rugs placed on top of rugs.
LOVE this list even though I've been guilty! 🙈 Really appreciate your honesty in saying hey, this free, gorgeous Citizenry blanket isn't working for my real life / pet life. I'm anti-fake plants too - I think it was drilled into me growing up? - but I've really come around to dried/preserved florals and greenery. You can get color, texture and crazy shapes with no light, no maintenance, no bugs. And I lol'd at "too boho" - it's a process but we have to check our grown selves from slipping back into too much UO Home. xo
Arvin, your feature on Studio McGee is well deserved! Always enjoy your channel and your content.
This specific post just shows design is a process - ever evolving.
❤️
Congrats Arvin! Well deserved recognition! 💕. I just replaced my pub height set and the new "normal" one looks so much better!
So proud to see you’re thriving and succeeding in an industry where there are so many people in it! So inspirational. Any tips on where you normally find your florals like the one in the vase behind you or on your console table in your bedroom?
I definitely feel like wood tones will always be a personal preference. I have always gravitated towards cool tones, white and bright colors peppered in. Warm wood tones I feel work well with beiges/earthy tones and such which just won’t ever be my vibe but I understand why people enjoy it.
Congrats on being featured by Studio McGee....so proud of you!! I'm glad you're over the faux plants too.😁
Congrats for the Studio M. piece. You deserve it, much love ❤️
I have quite a few sheep skin rugs in my home and I love them. Forever cozy and fluffy with no shedding!
Maybe it was just wasn't the right rug for us?! it shed a lot
I just love watching your channel. I learn so much from you. I love the way you shoot from the hip with your comments and I can feel the honesty. You are amazing.
Keep the tips coming!
Arvin, it is always a joy to watch your videos. It lights up my day. Congratulations, Arvin, for the Studio MCGee article. You deserve much to be noticed, your home is so beutiful! Greetings from Germany!
So happy for you and your Studio Mc Gee experience! Well deserved👏🏼
Congratulations on your Studio McGee opportunity !!!!! What an amazing moment 😘😘😘😘😘 I love your style 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hey , thanks for another awesome video! Your office and bedroom look amazing. You are spot on about dogs and rugs!!!! Not a ikea fan. Weird place to shop. Got to go one way!!!! Cheap. Thanks again, Kathleen
Learning so much from you… really appreciate you Arvin.❤️thank you for all these ideas.
I have faux trees and florals because most flowers and especially trees are toxic to cats and they are too curious for their own good. I was very anti fake anything before I got my cats but is what it is now.
Congratulations on your feature, even though we’re not surprised. You’re awesome! Great review as always Arvin. 😃
Congrats of the Studio McGee feature! Well deserved! Always here for the opening dance moment! xo
I have to say I agree with every one of your points, especially the bar height tables and faux trees. Great video.
I agree about bar height tables! I have black solid wood bedroom nightstands that match my furniture. I tried to update them although they are contemporary style anyway by replacing they legs. I’m having hard time redoing my primary bedroom around this furniture. My floors are blonde wood. HELP! Give suggestions for color combos to go with my black furniture
Congratulations Arvin on all your success you are so stylish and I love your personality! I went to college for interior design, and I consider myself a designer. You are such a breath of fresh air I must say I found you on Karen brit chicks video and I subscribed
ahhhh yay!!!! LOVE KAREN
Loved this one. You always make me laugh. Congrats on the Studio McGhee photo shoot. So cool
Totally agree on everything BUT I do still love the faux olive tree you recommended forever ago 😂 everything in moderation- all my other florals are real!
Hi Arvin, love your channel and your advice. There is nothing wrong with a design sense that changes over time and I have enjoyed seeing yours evolve since you started your channel. I do think it is always better to decorate with what your heart and soul are drawn to. I have been swayed into buying some things that were trendy at the time, but I got sick of those items so much faster than things I bought that may not be “what everybody is doing now”. I have always been drawn to warm tones and interesting different types of items like vintage, artistic, or just cozy. For the most part, I have had most of my current pieces for years and find my home inviting and cozy.
ARVIE thanks so much for sharing. Have to say my kids are now doing what they call the Arvi Dance"😂.
Good fun ...good spirit!
So good to see you again! My husband is 6’7 and it is so hard to find furniture that is comfortable our high table actually is more comfortable for his legs but my kids do dangle their legs so funny and true :-)
Congratulations Arvin. Well deserved. Glad to have you back. Nobody asked but I love the outfit. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and expertise with me.
OMG!!! STUDIO MC GHEE AWESOME @! You look timeless , grand, stylish, and I WANT that coffee table book with you on it!!! So deserving, so luxe, so impressive. You go!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Oh yes you are so right about those sofas ..my work thinks those things are the cats meow and buys them for all their locations and they NEVER last!!! So happy for you !! The cover looks wonderful!! Your tips today on this video were just great...
🙋🏾♀️bar height table, here! Works for us because we’re tall (6ft and 6’3), lol. Congratulations on the Studio McGee feature … well deserved!! Love the channel (and the dancing).
So Very Excited for your Studio McGee feature. I am generally not a Target shopper but you are piquing my interest. Congratulations on all of your success (and your engagement)! Blessing to you both.
Congratulations on the Studio McGee feature!! I bought a studio McGee bench because of you. You deserve everything you've earned and more!
First…love your channel!! Lol. We resorted to TWO (!) bar height tables with chairs for our small apartment. Living room/kitchen combo. They are set up to separate the two spaces and provide us with much needed counter prep space and for dining. Works very well to define the spaces. I live in an old brick urban apartment building. Keep up the great work!
Arvin, I have been with you since the start!!! So happy for all your success!
I'd love to see you do a video on ways to choose beautiful semi-pet-proof items for a home. You touched on it today, but a dedicated session would be so helpful. I cringe at the number of things I've had to toss, even though we have well-mannered pets.
That's a great idea :)
And kids please. I have both😓
Yes! On the orange linens! It’s too jarring for my eyes. How exciting being featured, 🥰
Preach grrrl!!! Cleaning cat barf off of a jute rug is freaking impossible!!! Also, I hate anything from Ikea! Totally agree that all of the stuff I have ever purchased from there ends up in the trash which is incredibly sad 😥 I would rather buy good quality wood furniture from a second hand shop than that crap that Ikea sells. Also agree about the fake plants! There are a huge variety of plants that you can grow in the house that have all kinds of light requirements. If you need the visual height that a fake tree gives you then either put a philodendron on a shelf or use a macrame plant hanger to elevate it. Love your videos 😊
Yes we had to clean vomit a lot lmao.
woah, take it easy! i have an ikea desk that i bought 20 years ago. it isn't 'crap' and a lot of it IS solid wood. pine develops a very nice, warm patina. as for any rugs, jute and those pretty rag rugs from india...horrible to clean, cat puke.
You are the best! Love your videos, ideas and suggestions. Congratulations on the Studio McGee feature! I’m not a fan of IKEA either.
!!!HAPPY BIRTHDAY and CONGRATULATIONS, ARVIN!!! 🥳🎉🥳
We have cats and dogs and I find the best thing for stains that’s good for most fabrics is oxiclean. 👍🏾
We use folex
Yes and anything with enzymes works great too.
But…but…you said the billy book shelves were fabulous. I really love them. I bought them years and years ago and they just never went out of style. Then we moved and the new owners added them in their offer to buy our house. I haven’t replaced them yet…..??? Love your channel. Cheers, Linda
Big Congrats on the feature with Studio McGee! Best wishes to you on these endeavors.
I love love love your style and I love even more that some of the things you wouldn't buy again are due to its incompatibility with having dogs. As someone who loves having a nice home but has had to make some painful compromises due to having two doggie babies I completely get it. I would love to see a video on things you love and hate that are pet (or small kids) friendly or not friendly!
Best rugs I have ever owned were wool kilim. Love the colors, pattern and texture. They wear like iron, plus both sides can be used.
Hey Arvin, yess I purchased a bar height table and immediately regretted that decision once seeing it in my home. It’s totally impractical in a residential setting. But I love it in my favorite sports bar.
Your Bedroom is just so beautiful and cozy and comfortable 👍
Congratulations! I am so proud of you. You really are tenacious. You will go far.
Arvin, congratulations on the Studio McGee interview! It was wonderful just like you! ❤️😍👍🏼
What an honor and accomplishment to be featured in Studio McGee. You deserve it. Congratulations. You must feel so proud. I bet Andrew is proud too.
I love all your videos and a huge congrats on studio McGee feature!! Goals 🙌
I love your design tips! But I come back for your giggle🤣
Congrats on the Studio McGee spread! I could not agree with you more on the throws. I have two cats and have wasted so much money on throws.
💃💃 Bring it in. 💃 💃 Back it up. 💃 You're looking fabulous today. 🎉🎉Congratulations on the Studio McGee feature. 🎉🎉
I just love to watch your videos you sure no how to decorate and have so much info thank you 🤔
Wow. Studio Mcgee? Awesome Arvin!
Wow, you are 100% correct. Thank you for saying what most of us are thinking!
Arvin congratulations on being featured by Studio McGee! Kudo's to you!!! So well deserved!!!
Thank you!!
Omg I am laughing the whole time. This is the first video of your videos that I see and you are hilarious. I love it. Can't wait to see your other videos! From the start, I loved it..because no one asked you but you made the video anyway lolll. 😂
I have a make-shift bar height table that I DIYed. I live in a studio apartment, and I wanted a rectangular table, and felt a bar height table would also double serve as a room divider without OBVIOUSLY diving the room. I keep the table set with a tablescape but its always there in case I need more counter space. I'm 5'10 for context. Overall, I like the table and think it fits the room great, but seating is a slight tight squeeze. I am wondering if you have alternatives to a bar height table that's got that length and narrowness that more bar height tables have. Also, since its a DIY, it does have a wobble to it, so I am possibly interested in other options.
Well I’m early after binging your videos this morning 😂
True Alvin , i did not want a high counter when we built this house coz of my little kids so we drop it the hight of dining table using normal chairs , when they are all grown up we raise it to match the counter tops .looks good and the kids are safe to use it .. 💚💚💚💚
Congrats on your feature with Studio McGee, honeyyy!!! 🤍 You’re out here THRIVING & I’m here for it!!!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Sending love and warm wishes of growth and success on your journey, Arvin!!
The high chairs my mom too! 🤣🤣🤣 love these vids
That was super interresting, I just bought a new condo and Im looking for new decor and furniture, I have a hard time choosing the light fixtures that will age well in the dinning room, do you have any recommandations ?
Thankksss🙂
Yasssss!! En pointe with every single point! Your style is next level this year, refined, mature and appropriate. Keep it up darling!!
I have a bar hight table one that looks exactly as the first pic you displayed but with leather chair with back rest. It fits perfect in my very large kitchen, and gives a balanced feel. Note, not my dinning room but kitchen. It’s in a beautiful mahogany wood and I’m very happy with it.
On color schemes, I can’t stand burnt orange and red in any home furnishings. I am proud to say, my color scheme are as you mentioned, browns, beige, but only one green material chair. Don’t like too much green unless its from plants. The metal fixtures are pewter/dark bronze and some platinum such as faucets, door handles and kitchen cabinet handles and lightings with mahogany wood and beige/white birch wood furnishing. Everyone who visits me say my home gives them a calm relaxing feeling. I tell them it an all natural color scheme environment. I do so enjoy your video. We mostly have so much in common when it comes to decorating a home.
Arviiiiiiiin !!!! Welcome back ✨🥳 So happy that you took some time off. Great video. I laughed so hard regarding the fake tree comment. 😅
