@@Vogomax I think its a fantastic laptop. Its beautiful, has great battery life, great keyboard/trackpad, and a very nice screen. But I wouldn't buy it for my own use - because I would need to edit 4K videos on it, which is not capable of handling.
Surface products are the best for college. When the Surface pro 2 came out I bought one for college for taking notes and using AutoCAD. It replaced all my books and notebooks. Reduced the weight on my backpack big time. Also bought my gf the Surface tablet back in 2013, which is no longer made. Then bought her a Surface pro 3, and then a Surface laptop 2. Last year of college I bought myself a Surface Pro 5. Taking notes on the laptop using the pen as if you were writing on paper was a blessing. Specially in engineering school, where taking notes by just typing will get you no where.
I have this & I like it. It's light & packs a great amount of power for my needs. I share the same complaints, except with the webcam. I believe all webcams aren't excellent; they're just good enough.
I bought one a year ago. Keep an eye on the screen, Microsoft has acknowledged an issue with the screen that causes it to spontaneously crack. Mine just cracked a few days ago and now they want $675 to fix it.

And last the speakers fire from underneath the keyboard. I've got a question: do you laptop speakers also distort or rattle the keyboard at some frequencies or is it just mine?
Yes it fires from beneath the keyboard. They used that concept for the Surface 2 as well if I'm not mistaken. Volume is decently loud and quality is not the clearest but it is surprisingly clear.

Yes but no need to go for an i7 stick to the i5 256gb will last and serve you well for online classes. If you need more space(highly unlikely unless youre storage videos into your laptop) get a portable ssd edit: it is also touch screen helps when scrolling through pdfs and ppts

Ok I just got mine today. I7, 16gb, 1TB, all black metal option. Let me tell y’all something about this laptop. It feels a bit chunky. By that I mean it feels a little heavier than what everyone is putting out. I expected it to be super light. No...it’s got some heft to it. Have the sales rep at Best Buy bring you a new in box laptop. You’ll feel how heavy the box is. Granted some of the weight is the actual MS box but still you’ll feel the heft of the machine. The major heartburn I have is the heat! Good grief! It gets hot! Too much for you have it on your lap. I was just downloading some things off the net. Chrome, office, Edge updates...and I couldn’t handle the heat on my legs so I had to move it. Charging isn’t as fast as I thought it would be. My iPhone charges faster. If you’re thinking of options, be prepared to spend some money. The Arc mouse, pen, extra charger 🔌 are expensive. Forget the dock station!! I’m not saying you need any of those but be prepared to shell out some benjis if you want them. I’ve just started my MS surface journey. I hope I don’t regret this laptop!!!
I just bought one yesterday and everything you said is on point. Theres quite a bit of coil whining too while recharging. How has this laptop been for you so far?
@@saltandvinegar4444 to be honest it has grown on me. It’s much more convenient to get out and power up and connect to the internet than my full size 17in laptop. Also the battery 🔋 does hold a charge. I watched a full movie off my external drive last night and left it unplugged. It used about 20% leaving plenty of charge for other things.

But for a laptop with touch screen and a nice track pad it’s super easy just to open it turn it on and go. I don’t even use the mouse or pen. I would even go so far as to tell you not to bother with those. I purchased all of the items that are surface and honestly i use the headphones and the laptop alone. No mouse or pen. Owell someday I may need to draw out something. I would say buy the extra charger though. That really comes in handy from office to home. I have a 17inch gaming laptop for my desktop replacement, and I use the surface as an easy tote usually in another room like the living room on a coffee table. If this is going to be your sole computing device the only thing I can say is it is limited on ports. So in my experience I use a more powerful laptop along side this for all my heavy duty computing. It really boils down to what you’re using it for. Sole laptop or like me along side another laptop. Once you start using it you’ll see it’s nice to type on but every once in a while the track pad stalls on 2 finger scrolling. Nothing major, just a slight stall.
Comparing this laptop to MacBook Air is a total joke. It has a U-Series 10th Gen CPU while the Air has a y-series. It’s like comparing a corolla to a corvette.
I'd still argue that neither of these are very good for productivity tasks (like video editing, animation, 3D modeling, etc.) inspite of their respective processors.
@@TechSummitTV I think it depends on what you consider productivity. Most people in the non-creative world use their computers for business mainly (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and some analytical tools. Windows and office tend to function better but more importantly the better cpu and cooling makes for a much better experience. I have both a MacBook and this Surface. I much prefer to work on my Surface and play around (photo/casual video editing) on my MacBook.

I don't really edit my audio. I just have an equalizer already set up for my microphone so that it always sounds this way, haha.
