    I like the looks of that plate. I’m going to tell my nephew to look at that plate. My BMW skid plate thickness is about right in the middle between your stock plate and the camel. I measured and ordered 3 strips of ABS plastic from a company that makes sheets of the stuff that get molded onto the bottom of jet boats that run rocky rivers. They supplied me with the adhesive they use to adhere to aluminum boats. As soon as I get my bike back I’m going to stick it on. That plastic is a smart idea.

  • @deltabravo1257
    @deltabravo1257 2 года назад

    This is probably the one I will order. Tusk still doesn't have one for the Euro 5 bikes, plus they don't do one in black.
    Black looks better on our black bikes.
    Thanks for the excellent install video.

    That is a nice chunk of armor! That additional strip of "plastic, delrin, abs, whatever it is, was genius!

      Yeah it is! I actually thought it was metal when I first saw it, which would make sense, but plastic is actually much better in that particular application.

    The right choice. One of the only aftermarket options with a fifth mounting point to take the load off the foot peg castings. As well as proper linkage protection. For oil changes just drop the stock 4 bolts & let it hinge down on the rear bracket. Wouldn’t be too concerned about the spark arrestor with the cat still in place.

    • @SwankyCatProductions
      @SwankyCatProductions  3 года назад

      Oh man yeah I suppose that would work wouldn't it?!?! good point! Yeah I doubt anything would get past the cat but I don't know if the DNR would let that go...

    Excellent install video. Really top notch. I’ve got my black Camel skid plate waiting for better weather to motivate me to install it. Your video answered my question on the rear support bracket as to how to let it dangle before securing.

      Nice! Yeah it's pretty quick. I was having a hard time finding the motivation as well but we just got a bunch of rain and some warm weather so I got it on quick so I could enjoy it. She's got two days worth of mud on it already!

      Yeah real good . Don't have firsthand experience with their stuff but you can see the riders that use their stuff . They build the toughest stuff or source those that do . Couple months ago they started with Tenere 700 pegs and skid plates . Think they got a German company that makes the crash bars but the rest is made in the good ol USA .
      Check them out on the tube and go see their website . Guys that do big adventures in real harsh environments swear by their stuff .

With my work schedule I'll hopefully pick it up in a couple weeks. Cedar Creek still had s decent inventory of used and some new. Every dealer I went to was selling a lot of bikes. I'll post pics to your FB page when I get it. It was the cheapest used ST I could find.

    Looks like Yamaha shop at the same skidplate store as BMW haha. Funny you mention that uhmw material, I just built an atv skid that's hybrid aluminum with a plastic sliding surface. The slipperiness of the plastic makes a difference. You made a good decision with this skid I think. Big bikes take big hits, and thick skids are the only counter to that. The black looks sharp. Great mod Ben.

    • @SwankyCatProductions
      @SwankyCatProductions  3 года назад +1

      Thanks Rodney! Yeah it's really a neat idea and I'll bet it makes a big difference especially on something like and atv or utv that's got a little more weight that needs to glide over stuff.

    It looks great! Glad it went on easy. I'm interested to know of you've had it out for a rip yet with it on? I recently put an Sw motech plate on the KLR and its buzzing and vibrating like crazy. I've got to put some foam on mine today to fix it.

    • @SwankyCatProductions
      @SwankyCatProductions  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! Yep I've been out a few times already and haven't had any issues. I had a ricochet plate on my KLR that didn't make any noise either. I've heard of crash bars vibrating but never a skid plate which is sort of surprising since it's just a big metal sheet.

    anyone have issues with the drainage? surely it just blocks up in there and makes the bike heavier especially if riding clumpy mud?

    • @SwankyCatProductions
      @SwankyCatProductions  3 года назад

      I think without all the cutouts it might actually get blocked up less. Im not a huge fan of having to take it off to clean it up but I don't anticipate needing to do it anymore often than when it's already off for oil changes. I guess we'll see though.
