This is the basic 'cadenzia' in classical harmony. Principal grades are playing: I grade, (tonic) IV grade (sub-dominant) and V grade (dominant), for a full cadenzia closing, I grade, tonic. The different positions of a same chord are the 'inversions' of the chord. When root is on bass, it is a 'root' position. When third is on bass, it´s 1st inversion (V6). When Fifth is on bass, it´s 2nd inversion (V4/6). When seventh is on bass, it´s 3rd inversion (V2).
