So the dust cover doesn't open via the forward assist. The dust cover opens with the charging handle. Looks nice though. The forward assist is so that you can chamber a round "quietly" because the bold won't fully close if you don't let the spring slam it home so that little button let's you use your thumb to finish cycling the bolt into battery. Hope that makes sense.
