I went through a lot of toxic perfectionism along with undiagnosed unknown mental illness for 50 years. I have come a long way in the past couple years. I am learning to love and forgive myself. We as a church need to have more talks about grace especially with our youth.
Church members are the most fortunate people on Earth. They have a prophet whom they know will be a future god. He has commissioned hundreds of temples where we can go and learn to be future gods. No other church is able to do this. Man is as god once was, god is as man may become is the most precious understanding. To believe and know we will some day stretch out our hand and create heavens and worlds without end because we have been exalted is the best theology available in the world today...
This is why everyone should seek out a real Christian church. A church that recognizes real grace and the real reason and message behind the crucifixion.

I enjoyed Elder Holland's talk, as is almost always the case. Before writing I read through the comments. WOW! No real surprises but there sure is a lot of really twisted people out there and untreated mental health issues. Some seem determined to take things the wrong way no matter how obvious or explicit it is made for them. This is a marvelously well delivered talk with a beautiful message and sentiment. And for the Paradigm guy, whatever your handle is, you are way off mate. I feel “toxic perfectionism” had its foundation laid down by Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, and “no unclean thing” can be tolerated by God. You must be perfect before God can tolerate your presence
Brigham yes. Joseph no. Because of Christ’s atonement, He has the power to forgive all your sins. And at that very point in time, you are clean and you can meet Christ in the flesh. Just keep repenting with Jesus as your confessor, trying everyday. He will make up the difference.
"There is therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" Romans 8:1. Christ's perfection is counted as our perfection when we place our faith in Him, and cling to Him.
I dont get it MORMONS... in the 80s and 90s these leaders Pounded the hammer of OBEDIENCE & WORTHYNESS into our little brains. He had to be constantly worthy to pass the sacrmanet, go to the temple. Obey the law of chastity 100%!! But at the same time we don't have to be perfect! The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is saying!!!!
Bible says, God comes by the truth of your heart is your crown/corona, we are the word of God and our actions are the signs of word, welcome to the corona/tion. Each sentence in the Bible is a sentence from order and each sentence is a year sentence as (1 in the beginning was the word) and (2 the word was with God) and (3 the word was God) (4 and the corona/crown has placed us as word six feet of firmament from each other. Truth of word flows eternally forward as the distortion of truth is number, numb/cold power numb/ber, everything is being taken back from death/darkness as it took everything from all the word. The light in the darkness is this grain of earth within this universal body and it is protecting all of life as you have a Galactic cell out there and this Galactic cell we are in right now is the body of Christ within Omega as you have all word/will of creation upon you within each cell is a throne for all word of creation, you have your will/word of creation upon equal me/a/sure, you are a universal body, when this is over you will be shown all your action and consequence upon your Galactic realm and when trust is earnt you will claim your universal body again within this multiverse. (universe/unity of verse/unity of word. I wrote a book it is all over the world and the more I try to announce it the more I am shut down. The book is, The last shall be the first and the first shall be the last by Joseph Darrell Walker. If you know the Bible then you will know everything. nnn
It is a little ironic to see some church leaders criticize members for not feeling good enough or valient enough when they are the ones who are primarily responsible for teaching principles in a way that make people feel that way. Examples are that forgiveness is achieved only after the sin is conqured not really after each repented sinful act . Also, you need to pay 17-18% of your Net Income or more as tithing & offerings or else you are not worthy. I will admit, however, that sometimes the way some people interpret what these leaders say rather than what they intend to be saying is what makes the difference. A good example is one Area church leader said that it is the "goal" for every person attending a sacrement meeting to leave feeling "guilty". To me , that is a terrible message. The truth is that what he meant was that every person should feel motivated to "change" after attending a sacrement meeting. Guilt is a terrible motivator. Gratitude and love for what Christ has done for us and for Heavenly Fathers love for us , however, is the ultimate motivator. How the principle is taught makes a world of difference. I like long distance running metafors. If a leader yells encouragement to you during a race you could think that maybe he is saying that yoiu need to do better/go faster so that you can "win". He could also be telling you that you are doing great and he simply wants you to keep trying. Dont give up. To finish is to win. One interpretation is negative and one is positive.. Which message do you want to hear? Isnt it important that this message is made clear to those who hear it? May everyone feel good about their desire and efforts to Come Unto Christ in whatever ways they do it (prayer, scripture, kindness to others, love of others, church meetings, temple attendence or whatever service you chose to give someone). If you feel good about what you are doing you will do more of it.
This very man who spoke in the video spoke on everything you just said; what sermons are truly meant to do and the interpretations of those who view them. It’s beautiful that you’re not far off from what he says. :) ruclips.net/video/7jF549CyOwM/видео.html Using your own analogy might I add something? Talks such as this are meant to encourage running. Those who are not are encouraged to run. Those who feel are and feel tired are encouraged and comforted to keep going. Those tripping others (participating in sinful behavior) are called to repentance. The race has always been against sin.
@@noahclark7603 Remember that my comment was referring to church leaders messages over decades, not just recent conferences. Things are probably better now than they were in the past.
They were called by the Savior directly to be special witness of Him. For them, just like us, perfection is pending. They'll rebuke sin, comfort those who suffer, love the downtrodden, lift those up who are struggling. They for all that is humanly possible strive to emulate the Lord. We're forgiven when we live the commandments and repent. Tithing is 10% of our income, given back to the Lords church. They use it to build temples, maintenance, etc. But.... I think you miss the point there.... It's not that you're not worthy if you don't "give your money" , it's you are asked to keep the Lords commandments which include the law of tithe, to enter into His house (ie the temple), if you don't keep his commandments you don't have that privilege. Only God can give you a testimony of tithing, so go prove it to yourself :) If you drive like a fool, they take your license. Same idea.
@@Nazz-b7p Ya, Ok. Just what we were talking about. There goes that "messaging " issue again. Your statement seems to be saying that we need to repent (it comes first rather than second ) and then keep the commandments (conquer the sin) after which we will be forgiven. Not very hopeful, encouraging, or forgiving. Also, given the problem most people have at keeping all of the commandments, when do you expect to actually feel Gods forgiveness? You and I both agree that "there is no repentance without an increase in righteousness" and that repentance is a process but your statement comes accross as much more cut and dried. Much more about you than about Christ. People respond better to being told to live more Christlike and to celebrate their successes in doing that than they do to being told how short they are always falling in living by the law (all commandments). In the end, most people resign themselves to "doing the best that they can" and trying to be happy while doing it even though they know that they are falling short. As for tithing, it is 10% of your "increase" not necessarily your "income". That discussion and whether people of other churches can be full tithe payers in the sight of God can go on and on. Believe me, there are a whole lot of faithful members of the church who dont pay 17-18% of their Net Income as tithing as would be needed if they all paid on their gross incomes. There are also a lot of faithful tithe payers in the world who are not LDS Church members. People make their own determination of what is considered their full tithing and are given temple recommends reflecting that. I am more that willing to let them do that including donations that are outside of the church but that serve an official church purpose (care for the poor). In fact, many people get more satisfaction out of those type of charity donations than they do when paying the "required" tithing bill to the church. That is especially true for a church with a $100 Billion surplus sitting in the bank somewhere. This feeling of greater satisfaction is so true, in fact, that when you take all of the donations into consideration, some people often will end up paying at or even more than the 10% of their "income" that you said was required to be an "honest" tithe payer. Once again, it appears that messaging or interpretation of doctrine plays a big part in how people feel about how they are doing in living the Gospel. (wasnt that the original point of Holland talk) Seems to me that a positive message telling people to continue doing the good things that they are doing / to keep going , is better than telling them that they are not doing enough.
Romans 4. Christ imputes His righteousness to our account. This is not something we strive for. The lie of works is Jesus + my effort. But Galatians proclaims a Gospel that eliminates our effort because the cross is ENOUGH.
@@thegettingoveritguy7266 Sure not. No one can save himself by himself, he needs the Lord's power for that. What the Savior is expecting from us is to become perfect through him, doing as he did, meaning works of faith, not just works. Yes, the Lord is expecting our best efforts from us, because faith without works is dead, and works without faith is even worse... If we try our best to be genuine christians, he will give us through His grace the power to accomplish what we could not do on our own.
@@philippesimonet8004 Isn't accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior a personal "effort" on our part? Certainly salvation does require effort. Mark 16:16 talks of another "effort" that is required for salvation...."He that believeth AND is baptized shall be saved". So it takes belief (faith...accepting Jesus into our hearts) AND baptism are required for salvation. This explains why Christ sent his disciples into all the world Matt 28:19/Mark 16:15-16 "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost" (As Matthew recorded), and " Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature, and he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved." (as Mark recorded it). Believe/Faith/Accepting Christ as our Lord and Savior AND baptism AND after baptism by water will come the the baptism by fire (or receiving the Holy Ghost...Matt 3:11)...the principals and ordinances of the gospel...are required for salvation...or Christ wouldn't have commanded his disciples to go into "all the world" and preach to "every creature" and baptize them. We don't save ourselves...only Jesus saves us, and without him no amount of faith and no number of baptisms, no amount of good deeds would save us...but salvation does require personal effort...namely, we have to exercise our free agency and choose to believe in Jesus, and be baptized. Which is to say we fully and completely come unto Christ and are saved, or born again through the principals and ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ (faith, repentance, baptism, receiving the holy Ghost, etc.) After that...our good works are (or should be) a manifestation of our faith...and no number of good works will save us without the principals and ordinances of Christs Gospel. My point...to claim it requires "no effort" on our part to be saved isn't doctrinally or biblically correct.
@@riodj80 you are right indeed. « No effort » from our part in the salvation process is doctrinally incorrect. Just reading the sermon on the mount should be enough to convince us.

===================================================================== Repent = change of mind, not turn from your sins. Over and over the Bible says whosoever "believes", in Jesus shall be saved. Bible Verses that prove Faith/Belief/Trust is what saves, not "turning from sin" (which is done after salvation during sanctification) Hebrews 11:6 - But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. This talk is very problematic. God’s commandments are important to follow as a sign of devotion but it cannot save us, even the Book of Mormon teaches that. Church itself doesn’t seem to obey God’s commandments as they have a history of lies and deceit, discrimination, adultery, abuse, financial dishonesty, etc. turning our hearts to Christ and letting him guide us is the right path not trying to be perfect and proud temple recommend holders, that can lead people to depression.
I don't understand how you felt it necessary to go onto an LDS video and cite what you call defects with the church and its members. What do you hope to accomplish? Disproving the truthfulness of the church? Bring down living prophets of God?
@@chischilisnez7811 I made a covenant with God to speak the truth at all times and in all places. I don’t worship men or institutions. Those who do that supported all the lies and false doctrines in the past, I don’t do that and I won’t do that. Get yourself acquainted with the scriptures and you will understand that.
@@FFM115 Again, you have not answered my question (do you remember it?). There are over 1,500 Christian churches and even several different Catholic churches. Do you go to all of them and "speak truth" to all of them and their doctrine? Do you know that all of these churches base their doctrine on the Bible, but all of them have different doctrine, beliefs, ordinances, and interpretations of the scriptures? I don't know what church you belong to, but consider this: Until the 1500s the dominant Christian church was the Catholic church. At that time, Martin Luthor rebelled against the Catholic church and began what is known as Protestantism. These churches (Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Protestant, Mennonite, Pentacost, etc.) were started by MEN (not prophets) and chose what to believe in the Bible and how to interpret the Bible. This is the truth. Another truth is that the theory of the Trinity is false doctrine.. Does your church believe in the Trinity? Do you know that it was started by the Emperor Constatine in 325 a.d.? I have an in-depth treatise regarding that if you're REALLY interested in truth. And just BTW, I also speak the truth and I study the Bible extensively. This year's study in our Sunday School is the Old Testament. Next year it will be the New Testament. The year after that will be the Book of Mormon (have you read the Book of Mormon BTW? If not, then you shouldn't go onto an LDS video to judge and excoriate it.)
@@chischilisnez7811 Thank you for your lesson on Christianity and the Bible. I did not say the Book Of Mormon is false, if you read my first comment again you will notice that I mentioned the BOM as a valid source of Christ's teachings. My point here is that the Institution, the church Inc. operates contrary to Christ's teachings whether from the Bible, Book Of Mormon or any other source. All the issues in Church history proves that, it is not about "Nobody's perfect" thing, there were and there are serious issues in the church that deliberately goes against God's teachings and that is a big sign of apostasy. Most people in the church FALSELY believe that the church as an institution or as whole cannot fall in apostasy because they FALSELY believe that its leaders are "Prophets and Seers" The very fact that they haven't and don't prophesy anything and don't see any real visions from heaven is a sign of apostasy, if you study the words of Moroni about this subject you will clearly see that something is wrong with the church today. Mormon chapters 8 and 9 Moroni is directing his words and warnings to the Latter Day Gentiles of the church and outside the church and he is very clear as to why miracles and divine manifestations cease among the people. I could go on for hours explaining why the LDS church is in apostasy using only scriptures and you could verify that this is the case, sadly. Other than that I do not have anything against the members of the LDS church, I participated as a member for more than 30 years and have very good friends who are very active and most of them have no problem discussing these important matters relating to our time. I know the BOM is a true record of scriptures despite many evidences that points to the contrary but my testimony is based on the content of the book and not how it came about, there are clear prophecies in the BOM being fulfilled right now and many others that are about to be fulfilled so I am at peace with my belief.
@@FFM115 Wow! What a reply. May I answer some of your accusations: 1) Joseph Smith prophesied many things that are already happening. L. Snow, visiting Southern Utah and the saints experiencing drought conditions and their crops wilting and dying, traveled (by coach) and spoke at a testimony meeting there. At one point he stopped talking and looked up for several uncomfortable moments. Ten, filled with "fire" he advised the saints to read Malachi 3 about tithing, and promised them that if they would pay a full tithing, the Lord would bless them. And bless them he did! They got rain like they'd never had before. Three years ago Prez Nelson (the current prophet) pulled the boys out of the Boy Scouts of America, amidst protests by parents and boys themselves. Two years later, the BSA fell all to pieces, admitting homosexuals to be scoutmasters, admitting transgenders and even girls (how does that work on a campout?) Years ago, under Prez Hinckley, the Proclamation on the Family was inspired by God, and look what has happened to the family. Gay marriage, transgenders, blatent homosexuality, single parent families, child abuse, etc. These are just a FEW. 2) Divine manifestations? Miracles? Dude, I can confess that I have been on the receiving end of BOTH of these. One of them was when I injured my back (herniated a disc, L5) and was given a blessing by a High Council leader. Long story short, after several crazy things, two days later I was HEALED. And that was a miracle! I don't know what LDS ward you belonged to (or if you even were a member in good standing of the church), but you're WAY off base. I could tell you a true story that the Prophet S. W.
We must all be perfect for Him 💖💖
"There is therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" Romans 8:1. Christ's perfection is counted as our perfection when we place our faith in Him, and cling to Him.
Perfection - what does that mean. I think God wants us to be complete -- as Jesus was a complete being.
So how does this relate to the temple recommend questions?
I dont get it MORMONS... in the 80s and 90s these leaders Pounded the hammer of OBEDIENCE & WORTHYNESS into our little brains. He had to be constantly worthy to pass the sacrmanet, go to the temple. Obey the law of chastity 100%!! But at the same time we don't have to be perfect! The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is saying!!!!
The original Bible says “complete” not perfect. We are all perfect in Christ if we trust in him. Not in a man made organization.
2:29 that’s exactly what he says man
I am not. I try, everyday to be Good Enough, This Morning, I am not
Bible says, God comes by the truth of your heart is your crown/corona, we are the word of God and our actions are the signs of word, welcome to the corona/tion.

Using your own analogy might I add something? Talks such as this are meant to encourage running. Those who are not are encouraged to run. Those who feel are and feel tired are encouraged and comforted to keep going. Those tripping others (participating in sinful behavior) are called to repentance.
The race has always been against sin.
@@noahclark7603 Remember that my comment was referring to church leaders messages over decades, not just recent conferences. Things are probably better now than they were in the past.
@@outsideview9052 👍🏻
Only God can give you a testimony of tithing, so go prove it to yourself :)
If you drive like a fool, they take your license.
Does that mean it doesnt require any
Effort on our part?
Which is to say we fully and completely come unto Christ and are saved, or born again through the principals and ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ (faith, repentance, baptism, receiving the holy Ghost, etc.)
After that...our good works are (or should be) a manifestation of our faith...and no number of good works will save us without the principals and ordinances of Christs Gospel.
My point...to claim it requires "no effort" on our part to be saved isn't doctrinally or biblically correct.
@@riodj80 you are right indeed. « No effort » from our part in the salvation process is doctrinally incorrect. Just reading the sermon on the mount should be enough to convince us.

Yeah, because you’re potentially messing with another’s innocent life, a potential baby that might come from it.
So tired of the deceit the lies just for profit.
I don't know what church you belong to, but consider this:
Until the 1500s the dominant Christian church was the Catholic church.
May I answer some of your accusations:
1) Joseph Smith prophesied many things that are already happening.
W. Kimball told of a man like you who came into his office and said basically the same things you've said.
