    I would add that Born soldiers benefits dakkadorns much more than it benefits lemuns. 2 of these are basically the same price as a baneblade and allow you to split fire much better than a baneblade does while still being able to move and hide. I play semi competitively so I can’t speak to the competitive scene but these things are going to be very effective in my local meta
    Two of these backing up an infantry army is going to be the play imo

    I ordered one Rogal Dorn tank for my Genestealer Cults army because they can really benefit from heavy fire support. There was no point in getting a second RD because the base cost is 250 pts and, unlike the Leman Russ, it's only one tank per unit, and only one unit per detachment -- and an Arks of Omen detachment doesn't work.
    Now that I have 3 Leman Russ tanks and a Rogal Dorn, and the Astra Military codex has been officially released, I'm tempted to start an Imperial Guard army. In for a penny, in for a pound!

      Space Marines tempt you to make a Tyranids army, Tyranids tempt you to make a GSC army, GSC tempt you to make a Guard army, Guard tempt you to make a Knights army, and Knights tempt you to make a Space Marines army, and on and on again the cycle continues...

    • @reavern
      @reavern Год назад +2

      @@boutinpowered8373 Actually, I started my Genestealer Cults army because I bought Shadow Throne and started a Custodes army too. I bought a Hive Tyrant to ally into my Genestealers army as the warlord.
      If it’s true the big 10e Indomitus-type box will contain Space Marines and Tyranids, I’ll probably build out a Tyranids army from that.
      It is a vicious cycle of spending.

    I've been running a Dorn with twin battle cannon, pulverizer cannon, double melta gun, double multi melta and the tank commandeer ace trait to give it trophy hunters so that all its weapons go to S9 vs vehicles and monsters. Having S9 meltas seems very strong to me. I've had fantastic results from the twin battle cannon and the pound them to dust order. The rolls were very skewed, but I've had the battle cannon kill 9 scarab occult terminators in a shot, and the pulverizer picked up the 10th. The dorn was under the pound them to dust order for max shots, full hit rerolls from Lord Solar, and had ingrained precision active.

    I just got my Dorn and have assembled it. While I was doing it I was stressing a bit on what configuration to build it in, so I went for the dakka Dorn you mentioned. It's nice to see that you agree with that configuration. I really wanted the meltas, but I have to say that's just getting in too close. I've tried to use meltas in my Cadian army, but I rarely EVER get to use them. 12" is just a hard range to pull off. 36" is pretty easy to do, and it keeps the MBT out of melee. I like that it ranges up nicely with the heavy bolters which are a favorite of mine. Toss in the gatlin gun and you've got a tracer streaking monster that mows down whole squads in a round of shooting. The conqueror rounds that dakka out with a heavy punch that should make other AFVs and Titans nervous. With that 90" range that gun is the "if I see you I can shoot you" beast. A sort of 40K Tiger!
    I think this beast is a great addition to my normal AFV force and gives my grunts more dakka support. I think this puppy with a couple of Cadian rifle squads would be nasty covering force for one side of the board allowing me to screen that side and protect an objective while freeing the rest of my force to go on the assault and go objective hunting. 90" gun means that they can even provide fire support too! I bet this and my Basilisk is going to give everyone I play against headaches!

    As a fan of the Iron Warriors, I despise the new tank on principle for its name alone.
    As a player, I don't like how the model feels incomplete with the missing bottom plate, and the design feels too round for guard IMO.
    That said, a S10 flat 4 gun in a world without AOC is VERY tempting though my biggest hang-up is how big it is. Playing competitive with player placed terrain, or even playing fixed terrain, you're not always going to have a place to hide this thing where your opponent won't see the back of its tread and be able to pull a shot off. Russes are easier to hide that way and make less of an impact on the battlefield.
    You recently talked about how guard is a go wide army and I agree with that entirely. We can lean one way or another to support units on the battlefield but for the most part we roll up on a single one and if we lose a flank, we screen that off and take the test out of what killed the flank. To me, putting 300 points (with all the meltas and an ace to boot) into one tank that is gonna drive up the center is too many eggs in one basket.
    I do, however like your idea of outflanking a tank. I've been considering it for a while and hearing someone else bring it up makes it sound more legitimate. Definitely worth a try!
    I have not personally used the praetorian tank yet, and I hear your points about the strats and aces being more efficient on it and how it's got more guns. I'm personally still dipping my toes into the new book playing with a list very similar to what I brought to LVO (9 mortars, 6 infantry, 4 russes, and support staff) and am seeing how I perform at this weekend RTT before leaning one way or another in terms of list building. I've had great success with my "small" footprint toolbox hybrid guard in the last year and don't want to rock the boat unnecessarily. Getting a baseline using pretty close to what I had before will help.

    If u ran 2, would u make 1 a dakka tank n the other a melta tank n just steam roll the melta tank up like a distraction carnifex? While other stays back n shoots. Wonder how well that would work? U could give it the 5+ invulnerable save before u drive it into the heart of the enemy lol plus if they kill it, hopefully it explodes n kills them lol

    I love the rules and concept. Unfortunately the execution leaves a lot to be desired... ... namely a floor plate.
    Might be time to upgrade the 3d printer to something more capable of larger vehicles.

    Hello. I am a new Player from Germany. I started an Astra Militarum Army recently but I have almost no clue what to do with my Minis.
    I have got: Cadia Stands Box, 1x start collecting Militarum tempestus, 1x Lord Solar, 1x Rogal Dorn, 2x Leman Russ, 6x Bullgryns, 2 more sentinels, 2 Heavy weapons Team, 1x Tech priest enginseer and a Basilisk. Currently I am trying to get some more Models. I try to get a Baneblade (old Variant), 1 manticore, 2 chimeras, 1 Basilisk and 2 wyvern/hydras. Maybe even a Tank from forgeworld. Looking there at a Medusa artillery Tank.
    I would like to Play more Tanks and only have a few infantry Models for objectives. I would appreciate any Help. Sorry for the bad Englisch, but I still hope you understand me :)

      @michaelgalloway1359 Год назад

      Honestly Dude I was say about 5 squads of infantry with some Kasrkin mixed in there combined with some Russes for support would be a viable army depenind on the point count you are looking at and it all gets adjusted according to that. 2000 points? 5-6 squads of infantry with Kasrkin for the pure firepower, Lord Solar and the Command Squad for orders, Sentinels as flankers, Leman Russes as long range support even with this we're barely pushing 800 points. Really its up to you you could go the horde route with infantry or what a lot of competitive people do is simply build it around supporting a few squads so they can be objective holders and have their tanks look out for them from afar which is also viable. You could go artillery heavy as well if you like Guard at the moment is very versatile but going the route of tank support being a big back line and not too many squads of infantry seems to be very viable at the moment.

      No, unfortunately not for the basic list as they are heavy support choices. Now there might be an Ark tank company out there that's legal. If so then you might pull one off, but you need to find that list.
