  • Genome-wide association studies have identified multiple genomic regions associated with coronary artery disease (CAD), with 9p21 as the strongest GWAS locus, especially in individuals of European descent. The locus has subsequently been replicated at a genome-wide level in East Asian and South Asian populations, but has not been replicated in African populations. In her presentation, Dr. Tcheandjieu will explore the historical context of the 9p21 locus in regard to CAD. Additionally, Dr. Tcheandjieu will discuss her findings regarding how differences in the population structure at 9p21, investigated through haplotype analysis, impact the genetic predisposition to CAD across diverse ancestral backgrounds.
