Love this interview - having a non stereotypical working class upbringing! I had too. I was brought up in a working class family in the worst part of Cork City - the ‘Coal quay’ but I was a member of the Loft Cork Shakespearean Society which was set up by Father O’Flynn for working class youth to enjoy and perform Shakespeare. My mother’s family were antique dealers so I grew up with artefacts from all over the world and that experience was fundamental to my being an artist. I never felt poor until I spent years in London being excluded from the social circles which are key to being a financially successful artist!
Why would the media be representative of the working class. The people of Hartlepool voted out of the working class. They had no work. Thanks for your help Mr Conservative.
It is lovely to see James in hero worship mode . . . On each episode . . After the bolshy belligerence of the call in show . . So kind and celebratory.
Energy security & net zero, Environment food & rural affairs, Science innovation & technology, Works & pensions, Health & social care, Foreign Commonwealth & development, Treasury, Home Office, Defence, Justice.... et al are all in free fall and have been for 14 years. The country is not and has not been governed. Which one of these Governments departments is actually working or has worked in the last 14 years? It's NOT that the campaign isn't working, it's that the country is in free fall; nothing is working. We can all see it and most of us are suffering as a result. Question for Rishi Sunak: None of these departments are functioning, is this the product of incompetence or wilfull neglect? And one for journalists: Why has no single journalist made the observation working people have (including Tories) and asked the question?
The more marginalised the working class, be that due to poor media representation, only the London working class being represented, economic disenfranchisement, etc, the more fringe and extreme their ideals become, and populism begins winning.
Sorry what do you mean by "working class"? Is it non counts, vicount, dukes, princes, etc.? You mean peasants, right? In your feudal country population is made up by nobility and peasants, correct?
I hate to say this but the working classes hate to see anyone getting ahead. It's a kind of reverse snobbery. Then they are so submissive to anyone with a posh accent. It's just exhausting watching them snivelling around the like of Rees mogg, Farage and Johnson.
What a lovely woman and a brilliant interview. I just found this episode by chance and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Probably my favourite episode so far. Sally is such a wonderful human being. Fascinating, funny, humble, I could go on and on. Thank you both.
