  • Building limousines is an elaborate and detailed process. Production begins with an ordinary car being sawed in half. Long steel beams connect the two sections before an outer frame is attached.     I always used to think auto manufacturers had special limousine versions of their cars made to order, which is why I assumed they'd be so expensive and far and few between. Never did I think it'd be so relatively simple as just taking one car and cutting it in half before adding to the middle of it. It honestly makes it feel less durable than it was originally engineered to be, especially when most of it's a weld job.

      Did you not see the big side impact hoop that was in the side panel? Going up and down and one from front to back. Just like any other car on the road just bigger in this one cuz the length of it. You don't think that the government hasn't made them crash test these things and charge them out the ass to have all that stuff permitted and all that? Plus in. Limo you don't have seat belts so there is a level of danger no matter what so don't be a scared lil baby, people die no mater how safe we make things.

      Probably would be fatal in a normal car if you were hit by a school bus or semi. Don't keep worrying about the 'what-ifs' and worry about not pulling out in front of traffic!

      I was thinking the same. The welding points look extremely poor in quality and do not look sturdy at all (I may be wrong here, but feel free to correct me). If this is how they build it, people should run the other way.
      Parents sending their kids on Prom nights in one of these should 100% watch this video.

    2:06 when they put in the side post, all I could think of was, what if another car hit it right there on the side in an accident. The other vehicle would rip right through that and kill anyone on the other side! These guys have got to go back to the drawing board!!!

    Here after reading about the limo crash in upstate NY. I’m shocked at how little (if any) safety features there are. I didn’t realize that limos are all just modded cars not at all designed to carry the load of the extra structure let alone so many passengers.

      In the Old Days, they were! Packard, Imperial, Lincoln and Cadillac, all used to make their own Limousines, or have Professional Coachbuilders do the work. these People... I have no words.

    The middle of the limo is not safe there's absolutely no reinforcement in the middle of the limo

      that is true. they are reconstructed vehicles so it's up to the states dmv to allow them to be licensed for the road. in most situations they only look for trivial stuff, i.e. lights, bumpers, that meet safety standards.

    At the bottom I'd use a boxed tube and build a structure that would stand up to a semi truck side impact. Contact cement is for countertops I'd use the red glue that most RV manufacturers use but that me I'd also install a fire suppression system if passengers were stuck in a crash

    This is cool crasftsmamship, but limos are trashy. I never assume its a fancy important person, i assume its a skinny white kid in a Monster energy drink shirt with his girlfriend with blue hair that has 2 inch long brown roots in cutoff denim shorts and a walmart skull t shirt.
