My 2000 has 304,000 mi . Sat in the back yard for FIVE years ...... never started . Threw in a gallon of gas and new battery , fired right up ..... these things live forever !!
did you park it on grass? cause i'm concerned the "Clean as a whistle" crown vic that i'm buying may get rusted out if parked out in back of my house. I don't want it out front cause it takes up too much space but if I have to park it out front, oh well. Just curious.
Daily runner is an 04 with 226k as of this post, I've had it since 2007 with 85k on it from the Department. Have done the plastic intake replacement at 100k, swapped out the recalled defective wheel rims, and the corroded rack 'n pinion assembly with the steering shaft, my car was from the northeast snow rust belt. That one hurt, just missed the oem recall by 1 model year, but its my favorite car.
Buddy of mine stuffed a 6.8L V10 from a decommissioned rental cube van into an all white 2003 P71 complete with the rigid ( not foil-backed ) POLICE INTERCEPTOR rear badge. ☝😎
I've been driving my 99 CVPI ever since I got my drivers license. It was my first car and even though I got another car to be my daily driver, I plan on keeping my Vic forever. Mine still has the partition between the front and back and still has the bars on the back windows lol and I've just replaced my intake manifold and catalytic converters. Just hit 150,000 miles.
Still have mines since 09. It’s a 00 p71, retired from Oakland pd. Had 100k. Almost 220k on it now and still running strong. Needs some exterior work done on it. Paint and headlights.
Interesting video. I like the Crown Vics because of their simplicity. If you do the basic maintenance like oil changes on them...they last a long time. And I like it that they don't have all of the latest electrical gadgets....bells and whistles....like most modern cars. That way they are less vulnerable to having a bunch of things breaking down on you.
@@707SonomaComa already got it did I went to the junkyard and replaced with a 2011 rear end then then got the fluid change and refilled works like a pro
I have the 2005 p71, for 2 years now with 251000 miles and drives strong, smooth. Ac very cold...I have in the past Japanese cars, Mercedes...but, this crown vic I'm just love it.
Got an 04 cvpi and I absolutely love it. What’s not to love about a v8 rwd 4 door sedan. From what I’ve learned about my 04 is sometime in only that year they ended getting better coil packs for ignition and thicker wires which puts the hp rating from 250 to 255. But I’ve since modded mine by having open headers, cold air intake and tune and I kick the crap out of 08-11 dodge rt anything. And this project is only getting started
i know my vics, the 05 had the updated steering wheel but not the updated instrument cluster plus its the only model that had the antenna mounted on the right rear
Ive owned 3 Crown Vics and all were 2005 models. You are correct about the antenna! Its also the last year of the 4R70w transmission before going to the 4R75e and its the first year for Drive By Wire throttle body! 2005 is a strange transition year for them. Theres a few other more technical differences such as more electrical sensors and what not. Any year you get though will be great as they truly are phenomenal cars!
@@mattcox846 didnt know that about Alaska... but the antennas were placed on ALL Panther platform vehicles.. Grand Mar.. Crown Vic LX and Lincoln Town Car.. not just the CVPI
In 2000 or 2001 they added the aluminum to the front of the Bakelite Intakes to stop the cracking from alternator brackets due to vibration. In 2000, the Rims changed to a flatter style and got rid of the deeper rim with the center caps. In 2006 the tachometer and rack an pinion were added. The tail lights also changed to all one unit instead of the separate amber turn signals. Anyway Good cars they are and you got my thumbs up also.
Love my 05' CVp71 , wasn't used as squad car, never had lightbar on roof or cage inside. Was very well maintained and other than the ol paint peel on decklid only other thing that was in need of attention was a low pressure AC line that was clogged/blocked up causing the compressor to over cycle , drained system, replaced line , now shes cool as ice ,, ANY p71 with 97-V rated or better tires kept at proper psi is an absolute BOSS out on the highway! Handling is amazing and seems better the more you get into it,,,, hmm , hmm , "within your states legal speed limits that is of course" ,,lol. For real they are just an all around fun car to drive ,,, gets more compliments than anything else I've ever driven, I've parked my 2015 Tahoe crooked across my drive way the day I got the CV to :just go for quick ride n check her out", that was 8 months ago, Tahoe sits in same spot!! Lol
There was a suspension upgrade in 03. I have a 2001 and the front suspension is a single mount. I believe the 03 and up have a 3-point mount on the struts. they have a lot better aftermarket upgrades for 03 and up. So, needles to say my next one will be a 03 and up. But my 2001 was only $500 from a friend. Only 1 small dent in the back drive side door and the back bumper is cracked. Just a little over a hundred thousand on the odometer and it's running strong.
I recommend a 2003 and up. They have the latest mechanical updates, including 4 wheel disc brakes and rack and pinion steering. They also have the bulletproof 4.6L OHC modular V8. However, they do have issues. I have a white 2006, and it has a serious peeling paint problem. This is NOT something you can fix with a cheap repaint. Because of a huge screw up by Ford, the old paint must be completely removed down to bare metal, which is ridiculously expensive. I plan on getting a vinyl wrap on mine. It only had 49,000 on it when I bought it, and is still under 100,000. These are 300,000 mile cars. I don't want to drive it around for the next several years with half the paint missing.
@bert smith It's the white paint they use on them - code WT / Performance White. Also known as Peelformance White for that reason. The factory applied paint is water based and this was a problem with water based urethane paint from the late 1980s on. They never figured it out.
I had my 2000 paínted in 2012 and It still looks great. Replaced engine in 2020, It had 430,000 miles before It started to tic. I also plan to keep It forever.
Great vid! Very informative. I have a 99 Silver Bullet P71 that I got from my father. The intake needs to be replaced and when the AC compressor locked up and snapped the belt, it hasn't ran right since. Saving pennies to put it in the shop now, because I will never get rid of my dad's car. New subscriber
2001-up got the Performance Improved (PI) engine. From 210 HP on the 98-2000 models to 235 HP in '01 and '02. '03 got a small bump to 239 along with a new designed frame with upgraded and a more modern suspension. '04 was bumped in power again to 250 with 297 ft. lb. torque. This would continue through the end of production. '05 got the new CANBUS engine management system with drive by wire, which would also continue through '11. '06+ got a CANBUS LCM as well as the rest of the system, with a new instrument cluster to boot. These are good, solid cars. If I were to recommend a year to get, I'd go '05+. I have a 2005 and a 2009.
Mine went out about 6 months ago. Luckily I live in Arizona so I just pulled the passenger airbag and lifted the actuator off of the little piece it rotates and pushed it full to the cold. Don't need the heater here xD Though if I ever plan on selling the car I'll fix it fully.
05 had antenna,16" wheels that rust out, older instrument cluster, better drive shaft than newer models making it faster, different transmission than 09 and newer, different door locks and window switches.
I have a '05. Absolutely love that car. Just had the tranny rebuilt ($1630.00) and fixing to replace the oil cooler lines. Other than that it it's been a great car. You can bet the farm, you'll eventually have to get the tranny rebuilt. Change the oil every 3000 miles and run a WIX oil filter and you should grow old with your Crown Vic.
i bought a 2006 CVPI last year for $1100 with 146K on her. Kevlar door panels, still has spotlight but wires were cut and long roof whip antenna. So people see it coming and freak out. Some even pull over and let me go by occasionally. Hmmm. Cold air, hot heat, everything works and well maintained. EXCEPT: the idiots that bought her before didn't change the oil for 2 years and ran it for almost 12,000 miles. RME. Radio that came with it was junk. Got a factory AM/FM CD stereo from a 2004 F-150 to replace it. Dash lights keep going out then come back and shifting cable stuck on something under there. Just got to get under there one day and fix it. Also needed plugs and coil overs. But I saved her and she runs great. Also added a cold air intake. Barely tap the gas and she wants to lay rubber. The white paint is peeling. Was considering putting primer over the bare spots but she should be fine until I get enough $ to get her repainted. Best car for the $ I've ever owned. I call her The Peeling Paint Panther. Lol These cars will run forever if you maintain them properly
Not to mention Walmart makes a nice cup holder intake with a lockable top that fits between the seats perfectly for $29 upgraded the radio to a Kenwood Rockford Fosgate speakers in the doors and in the decklid got to have decent music for cruising
im saving up for a 05-11 model im tired of the box chevy's every since i drove my cousin 06 p71 i have to have me one now cold ac hot heat nice steelies strong engine trans reliable cant beat that
On my 3rd vic. Still driving my 01. 97k miles on it. Stored in winters clean clean clean. Looks like it could be a 2011. Still original manifold and well. Never turn the heat on so I don't know about the heater coil.
I've got a 2000, 225k miles, runs smooth, etc. I got an alignment, because it pulled to the right. Adjusted the steering box to minimize lash. It had the blinking headlight problem, solved by replacing a thermal breaker, Ford recommended using a 25 amp instead of the 18 amp. Front end is tight. I'm installing a double din radio, with touch screen, and a backup camera. This the best car I've owned, new or used.
@@jontaylove25 What state? That's low mileage, btw, if you have the flickering headlights, change the 18a thermal breaker in the fusebox under the dash to a 25a. I think 2001 had the same setup.
@@jontaylove25 To the left of the steering column, there's a cover. I think it was the #8 slot. It's made of metal, a rectangular case a bit bigger than the plastic fuses. I think there's another on like it. Look in your manual, if you got one. It has 18 stamped on it. When you turn on the headlights, they might start flickering, after the thermal breaker warms up. Leave the cover off the box. Start the car, turn on the lights. If you put your finger on the relay, you'll feel it getting warm, and if it clicks, that's the cause of the flickering. Go to auto zone or whatever, look for a 25a replacement. No problems since then.
I have an 09 P71, I've had it for about a year now. So far the only problem I've had to replace was the starter and blower motor. (knock on wood)... They were both very easy fixes. I would have to say out of all the vehicles I've owned in my life, this is by far the very best one. Keep up your videos man, I enjoy watching them.
Street Cruising 101 Black and White, same as yours, with the steelie rims. Almost completely identical lol I modified mine a bit though. If I could send you a picture I would, looks pretty badass... the thing is I'm a huge fan of the video game series Resident Evil.. sooooo... I turned it into an Umbrella Corporation Police car! Lol has lots of decals on it. My license plate even reads RE5EV1L ;)
Street Cruising 101 not too much, mainly the decals. I added 3 Police CB antennas as far as anything else goes. I'm going to get a Setina PB-400 Push Bar, I'll put that on as soon as I get it. The cheapest I could find was just over $300. That's including brackets and pads as well. Not steel, I wouldn't want to add too much more weight to the car. It will high strength aircraft aluminum. It's coated with a zinc free multi step powder finish. Will look pretty sweet once I have it installed. I'd like to get a light bar as well, but I don't want to push it and draw too much attention to the car. More than I already do, sticks out like a Lamborghini.. lol If I were to get one I would purchase one with Amber and White LED's. But that would be the very last thing I would like to add to the car. I'm not trying to impersonate a Police Officer, nor would I ever attempt to do so. I would just like to make my car as accurate as possible to look as a replica police car you would see in Resident Evil. I wish you could see how it looks so far =]
Blue interiors? I know Yellow Taxi had beige interiors. I bought them on auction from the RCMP in Canada. All grey... Since early 2000s. Research the police service before you buy. Our RCMP maintains their fleets so they are worth buying. Municipalities usually have no budget for maintenance. There's still good finds to be had. As scary big as they look, they get decent mileage IF you don't pound the pedal. They do as well as a Caravan minivan on an average taxi shift.
I have to agree with Trigga ville on this one, I thing your Vic is a 2005 although I can't see the right rear side of the car to prove my point. You do have the updated steering wheel but your instrument panel is missing the tachometer and the digital odometer/engine hour meter. You also have the electronic throttle body control. The 98 thru 2011 Vic's reminds me of the early VW Beetles, you had to know what to look for to tell what year it was. :-)
According to my Fleet buddy, who worked on these, he said 2003 to 2005 were some of the best years where they did not have alot of issues. Meaning with all the use a department had with running and gunning them, yes wear and tear, but he noted 2006 to 2011 had their issues and more so for those years. I own a 2004 CVPI, with 140k, same engine, trans, rear end. Modded with headers, throttle body spacer, and SCT 4 tuner.
@@BusinessmanRich Yes it allowed me to manipulate the factory tune, it allows you to select your fuel octane, shift pattern, remove the governor, and other functions. Not many but makes do for my tinkering since I purchased it.
When I did the wiper motor that was fun LOL found 20 40 cal Smith & Wesson shells inside the deck lid where the wiper motor was pretty cool to have an active-duty car got all the paperwork with it from every upgrade and everything fixed on the car since it was new in 05
Had my 2000 since 2012, It had 140,000. I replaced engine in 2020 with 430,000. I just retired and live on a fixed income so i cant keep It up like i use to. I plan to keep the car forever.
I been driving my 09' for two years now, trany tuneup/front right wheel stabilizer/plugs/thermostat with flush/two new rear tires/ 5 or 6 oil changes/front brakes/wash every 5 days/ just put 150.000 on it and i can't say enough of my car i go anywhere i want...I thank GOD for my CVPI....Everywhere i go people want to buy it from me, i turned down $4.500 for her and where i got her they had an 2011'' for that much....This is my 4th CVPI no other car moves me like this one car.......I'll be looking forward to 300.000 plus miles....JRC
Very interesting. A couple weeks, ago I was chatting with a parked taxi driver who had a Crown Vic. I don't know what year it was.....but it had over 444K miles on it! He said he had no problems with it. I have never personally seen a car up close with that many miles. The Crown Vic rocks :D
Just bought an 08 at auction. Picking it up 2morro. 82K on the OD. Ad said it had 'slipping trans'. Not sure if it is drivable or not. Will save me price of towing if it is. Got to move it 77 miles. Will find out 2morro. If tranny is toast, I may swap in a 5 speed. Haven't decided. Will be my first Ford. Always owned Chevys and Cadillac. Will be my 2nd commercial vehicle. Caddy was retired hearse. Will be driving the Caddy Wagon to pick it up. Too bad it was no hitch.
sparkimoto, I bought a 2003 Crown Vic P71 interceptor a few months ago that was in good condition....but the Trans was starting to slip. I got a rebuilt Trans put in for about $2.3K with tax. The Crown Vic cost $2.8K and had 93.4K mileage. Despite the price of the trans.... I think I got myself a good deal. So basically, I got a low mileage Crown Vic (a Crown Vic is still a baby at 100K mileage if its maintained OK) which is virtually new now with a new transmission. IF you are paying just several thousand dollars or so for a 2008 Crown Vic....and you put a rebuilt Trans in it......I would say you got yourself virtually a brand new Crown Vic that will last you a long time. If you got a Crown Vic with just 82K miles and despite the trans problem you have a good condition Crown Vic and you did not pay too much for it.....I would say you got yourself a good deal. How much did your Crown Vic cost?
Good to hear. I am really surprised for what I got it for. It was the last of 3 at auction that day. Was out bid in first 2 selling for over $1300. I got the 3rd for $680 + buyer's fee 9%. So even with cost of trans replacement I thought I'd still have a bargain.
Sparkimoto, How is the overall condition of the car? If the overall condition of the car is in good shape....with the exception of the transmission....I think you got yourself a great deal for just over $1300. If you have for that price, a generally good condition crown vic...and you then pay about $2K to $2.5K for a rebuilt Trans....I would say you got your self a great deal....and have a virtually new Crown Vic. 82K mileage is NOTHING on a good condition Crown Vic with a rebuilt trans. I paid 2.8K for my 2003 Crown Vic and 2.3K for the trans....and I am very happy with my Crown Vic. I have a soft foot with the pedal....and hence I anticipate it's gonna last me for quite a long time.
Got a 2000 Gran Marquis $1.9k looks brand new. Not sinking too much into it just got it to drive when it rains or after I shower. I get most my running around done on mc. 80 mpg
I've owned 11 Crown Victoria's in the last 25 years..I currently own a Detective 2009,with 1200 idle hours, and 120k miles...No problems,my secret : CHANGE ALL your fluids,ASAP..Rear diff,Trans fluid filter, power steering,Coolant, and of course engine oil,,ALL Synthetics,75-90 ,for the rear,5-20 for the engine..no one changes the tranny fluid,or rear diif, and they wonder why things burn up..keep those fluids CLEAN,Thanks nice video,it was informative for me..I'm like you I know ALL the little details, and every changes over the years..I am 56 years old, that's why so many.lol//Take Care,Good Luck
The main reasons why the heater cores would leak on the older Crown Victorias was due to the coolant becoming acidic from a bad ground on the alternator. The alternator would ground itself to the coolant.
I like my 2008 better than the 2003 I had. But the 2003 definitely felt like it was sturdier and better made - the doors closing sounded much more solid than the 2008 does. The locking gas cap was nice, but the 2008 is noticeably faster
03+ is best. Seat belt pre-tensioners, break away u-jointed steering column, optional side air bags first year in 03, optional heated seats starting in 03, 03+ got the front spring/coil over moved right out against the front wheels making the car more stable, 03+ got a very precise rack and pinion vs the old sloppy recirculating ball system, 03+ added a fuel rail protection plate on the RF, 03+ have significant safety and handling updates. 02 and older do have easier power steering in parking lots. All Panthers are great cars, we're just splitting hairs, but I own 2 2001s and 3 03s. The 03s drive batter imo.
Had a 1996 and 2002 both where great cars. The steering went out in both cars because of the rack and pinion breaking and a lot of parts got damaged to the tune of 5-6 grand to fix them right.
How many CVPI's have you owned? Side note: One thing I've noticed is the slow change in the steel wheels over the years. Your's are more "flat" looking, the 1998-2000ish have a really deep dish look with a ton of tiny holes, the newest ones 2010-11 have large holes. I've always wondered how they changed over the years.
9, first one I wrecked, swap all the parts to another one, sold it, bought another it was a lemon, traded it and through the years just bought some off and on and resold them. I showed at 3 of them on my channel
I have an 04, i like the older deep rims, think they had more personality. Mine came with wheel covers and bought new lug nuts to fit the dust caps that I bought for it, made it look better.
92-97 ran 15s 98-05 ran 16's 98-02 had a lip where 03-05 had no lip called faced rims, this was due to brake caliper upgrade. 06-11 upgraded to 17s on in cvpi for better high speed cornering control. Smaller sidewall equals less tire buckle. 03-05 rims will fit and work completely fine on the 06-11, however, not on the 02 and older. Now, the 98-02 16's will work on all newer vics with about an inch of tire sticking out, giving the car a little wide stance look. If you were to put these 16's on the 92-97 vic, this wide stance would not exist, the back spacing is the same as the 15s, but gives an updated look to an older car.
I hear you I see we both have good taste mine's a2005 as well mine just turned 190,000 this morning runs like a dream putting a cobra double throttle body on it BBK MagnaFlow exhaust Airaid intake NGK plugs MSD coils 6-speed manual coming in the future
What's so cool about these cars if you can use pretty much any engine bolt on from a 4.6 liter Mustang on this car so there's so much aftermarket love for these cars I'm thinking about getting one of these or a Lincoln Town Car
Every year there were improvements. That's what makes them - still - a popular commercial vehicle choice. I paint them taxi yellow and can get 300,000 miles if maintained properly.
I like the 06 I have. They have the cool IP, the DBW is figured out and the suspension good. I did put an 07 P/S pump on it, the 06 has a shitty one. I removed all the police stuff, Bullit wheels, lowered an inch and a tune and it's a pretty fun car to drive.
Brother I love your videos! I own a 2003 LX and I am just like you, it’s nice to see someone else who understands these cars and what they are worth, keep up the good work man!
How do you know when & where it’s okay to leave the doors painted white? I hear some places, the roof could stay white but the doors had to be repainted black. (I’m speaking of the black and white cruisers only).
That upgraded intake ur talking about is made by Dorman... very nice part... Ford also had the intake problem on their F150 with the 4.6 and 5.4 around that same time...
That police Interceptor Cruising 101 was the best police vehicle ever made in my opinion. As a retired LEO, I drove all of the Ford Crown Vics from the 90's and that body style was the best for sure. Police vehicles are driven extremely hard and those cars had very little problems. The new SUV police vehicles are garbage!
other problem to look for bad steering shaft, run your VIN through highway safety site to check if ford repaired defect, if your car has not been fixed FREE REPAIR, ALSO some years not sure if all, bad bearings , Hub replacement, call Ford directly or Dealership to check VIN.
One of the only guys on YT with one of these who knows what the hell he's talking about. I like the way you describe things. You are not just blabbing on either with non-sensible pointless chatter. Thanks for this videos. Now subscribed.
Big time crap time now. Here i am and the other day 1:30AM in bed and i hear a big bang right in front of my house, i got up look out the window and see the asshole facing north and my street is east/west facing my car, SOB hit my car left fender and door moved my car 2 feet onto the side walk.. By the time i get down stairs i hear another hit,but this time its my neighbors car as he backs up to drive off...I look at my car and my mind burns up thinking ''WHY ME''' I take good care of my Crown Vic for this to happen? I take some pic's of the hit, and my neighbor comes out and says i see it happen, and he knows who it was..He is from the same block new to the hood..So i say lets see if he come back...Ten minutes later two guys walk down to my car to look at it...And my neighbor say that's him...I call them over and drunk as a skunks one say i got money..But not good enough for my neighbor so a lot of yelling and talking then bang they get into it and the other guy get in too, so i had to step in to nail it down...Like always the police show 20 min's later and don't do a thing, just let both of them go...this is Monday morning AM i got to work too. but could not drive the car like that lost the whole week, i got the car back Thursday night from the shop, new fender/door/tire and paint then my steering column had to be changed..Oh one hit his head on the side walk and broke his shoulder bone, how that happen i wonder! I don't like talking about my car because of Murphy law...And yes it did happen, ''SE LA VI'' QUE SERA SERA'' two thing you do in life you protect you wife and you car in the same way...Thks to all.....................JRC
16 inch steelies, no antenna. 2003 or 2004. 2003 is the worst year because it is the first year of the re-designed chassis. 2004 is the best year because Ford fixed everything including the spark plug thread count. 2005 and later are drive by wire. 2008 is the best of the later model years, IMO. 2009-11 changed a lot of stuff which makes interior swaps and scrounging parts more difficult. 2009-11 also had a different oil filter which did not keep oil high up in the motor like the earlier years. Result is lifter knock at start up if car sits for a few days.
I got a 2006 crown Vic. And I don’t have cruise control haha. Sucks but that’s fine. Loving it though. Keep having a throttle actuator code that puts it into limp mode for some reason.
I have a 2003 it has the aluminum front and is close in age to the cobra Terminator. So, someday I will find a totaled Terminator and I'll have what I need. Until then it is a big family car that can tow my 24' boat so job done. Glass pack mufflers stock all around nobody gives it any attention. Perfect.
Been watching allot about these p71 today. After seeing this I'm definitely feeling more comfortable about the deal I'm making on a 98 p71 with 240k on the clock. Heard allot of mixed info about them over the years but looking forward to it. Now I'm really wanting him to hurry up and find the title so I can close this deal and get it on the road.
My father has a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis. I have 3 Mustangs (03 v6, 05 GT, 07GT) & wouldn’t mind selling one to get a 2010-2011 Ford CVPI p71. I’m falling for these cars more & more lol
There was several little issues between years odels and between actual models, like most of the issues these cars have mine won't because mine isn't a p71 it's a civi model. But mine is an 03 and if I remember correctly ALL 03 CVs had axles that weren't heat treated right. I could be wrong about that. Air ride is usually bad by now on civi models now, in the case of ine someone put normal shocks on the back of it, nice ones, at least.
I want a ford crown so bad, but here in germany they are pretty expensive and rare. I really like them with this massive bullbar and some extra lights on the bar. (Look at Alaska State Trooper, they have these round shaped lights on the bar) Also the spotlights are a must have on this car😍 Is there anyone, who wanna give me one for free? Absolute dreamcar!!!
You forgot to say that the newer PI Vics (2003-on and 2006-on) had a change in 1) steering column with a much better design of rack-and-pinion vs the old ball-bearing steering, 2) larger wheels (17" vs 16" on the older ones).
It’s an 05’ as it has the updated steering wheel/column. The 05’s were the only ones with the updated steering wheel/column with the older dashboard. Also the only year with a regular exterior antenna on the right side near the trunk.
My opinion is that the year does matter. I have a 2010 CVPI and a 2006 LX Sport. I wouldn't buy anything older than late-2005, personally. 2003 was the suspension upgrade thing and late 2005 is the axle spline increase, amongst other subtle differences. That said, for those two reasons alone I would only buy late-2005 or newer. And once you've had an LX Sport, the interior DOES matter. And the bigger headrests for the CVPIs only came on the 2011 year models. Both of my 2010 CVPIs had the smaller headrests. And those headrests have different support widths, so you can't just swap out headrests, you need the 2011 seats. So that is what I did: put 2011 seats with the bigger headrests into my 2010 and sold the original seats. Anyway, my choices/opinions only. YMMV.
How about my 2001 vic that I bought new as a taxi and ended up having 540,000 miles and running great before a drunk driver rear ended me. My mechanic actually teared up a little when he saw it when I towed it over to his shop.
I have a 2006 Crown Vic same color as yours got it like a month ago and I love driving it. Has Flow Masters H.I.D's and mustang roush rim's and 167xxx miles on it got it for $850 dollars. I've had 2 Grand Marquis and 3 Lincoln Towncar's 1998 and up but the Crown Vic feels faster at first I didn't like Crown Vic's but after driving 1 I love dat car.
Rear lights differ, the later ones have the larger Town Car style large lenses for what ever that matters. If its in good shape and runs good, all is fine.
Great video .I'm thinking of buying one this week . it's 2011 crown Victor it has 278,876 on it the guy says it has 400 HP and it's fast it has a push bar on it it's all black .I'm not sure what to look for ? I have a scanner to use . what should I look for ? Thanks 👍🇨🇦
Wrong! The intakes always had aluminum cross overs all the way back to the first ones. Ford has since revised the part with a new part number to correct the issue . Don`t buy the Dorman aftermarket intake , it`s poorly made and wont last more than a couple years.
I should have looked for a newer vic. I own a civilian 93 crown vic and been great except for the throttle body. And good luck finding some parts for any vic made before (95?).
Street Cruising 101 the standalone crown victoria started in 1989. Prior to that the crown victoria was a package option for the ford Fairlane. Very few 93 crown Victoria's saw use as a interceptor. The 93 was also the first crown victoria to have a grill but it is a mini grill compared to the 96 and up. Prior to 93 the victoria had no grill.
My 2000 has 304,000 mi . Sat in the back yard for FIVE years ...... never started . Threw in a gallon of gas and new battery , fired right up ..... these things live forever !!
Unless and until you get rear ended. Then you're dead and so is the car.
@@efandmk3382 they fixed those problems. It's way stronger now
did you park it on grass? cause i'm concerned the "Clean as a whistle" crown vic that i'm buying may get rusted out if parked out in back of my house.

Very good attention to detail.
Ayyyy that's what I drive, I dont like the antenna, I dont like antennas on any car lol

I was issued two Ford cruisers, 1999 and 2008. My favorite is the 1999.
Noah Seiter I got a 09 since 12. Just hit 160k. 2000 idle hrs.
Same, sorta. I have a 99 Grand Marquise. 160,000 miles. I love this car. There is no way I'm ever getting rid of it.
Still have mines since 09. It’s a 00 p71, retired from Oakland pd. Had 100k. Almost 220k on it now and still running strong. Needs some exterior work done on it. Paint and headlights.
I see crown vic, I click...

LMAO. Me too
Interesting video. I like the Crown Vics because of their simplicity. If you do the basic maintenance like oil changes on them...they last a long time. And I like it that they don't have all of the latest electrical gadgets....bells and whistles....like most modern cars. That way they are less vulnerable to having a bunch of things breaking down on you.
alot of cars these days have little to no issues with 200,000+ miles.

And this project is only getting started
i know my vics, the 05 had the updated steering wheel but not the updated instrument cluster plus its the only model that had the antenna mounted on the right rear
trigga ville real talk.. never showed the antenna..lol
Any year you get though will be great as they truly are phenomenal cars!
the 05 vic was made specifically for the Alaska state troopers they wanted an antenna

You guys beat me to it..... 2008 and all analog
Mike Heckathorn 2003 and up is also a completely new hydro formed frame and a knock sensor in the motor and new aluminum cross member
Greetings from Wales. I love Crown Vics, wish we had them here in UK!

God bless you and your father
Just purchased an 11 P7B, thing is a MONSTER,you have any insight specific to the 11' Crown Vic ?
I have an 05 love it it has hella miles onit and still running strong love these cars 😊👌
Blend door activators are known to go. Another repair that needs to pull dash away to reach it.
Mine went out about 6 months ago. Luckily I live in Arizona so I just pulled the passenger airbag and lifted the actuator off of the little piece it rotates and pushed it full to the cold. Don't need the heater here xD
Though if I ever plan on selling the car I'll fix it fully.
05 had antenna,16" wheels that rust out, older instrument cluster, better drive shaft than newer models making it faster, different transmission than 09 and newer, different door locks and window switches.
Can you replace the 16 inch for the 17 inch wheels on a 05 vic cvpi?
Not to mention Walmart makes a nice cup holder intake with a lockable top that fits between the seats perfectly for $29 upgraded the radio to a Kenwood Rockford Fosgate speakers in the doors and in the decklid got to have decent music for cruising
im saving up for a 05-11 model im tired of the box chevy's every since i drove my cousin 06 p71 i have to have me one now cold ac hot heat nice steelies strong engine trans reliable cant beat that
Oh yea definitely a fun car to drive and will last a long time. Welcome to the channel.
I have an 09 not bad but I'd take my 88 back in a heartbeat if it wasn't totaled
I just got a 2001 crown Victoria with 57000 miles on it
@@jontaylove25 What state? That's low mileage, btw, if you have the flickering headlights, change the 18a thermal breaker in the fusebox under the dash to a 25a. I think 2001 had the same setup.
@@soco13466 ohio
@@soco13466 where is that fuse you referring to
@@jontaylove25 To the left of the steering column, there's a cover.
Thanks, what color is it.
LOl, what mods have you did to it.
More than I already do, sticks out like a Lamborghini.. lol
If I were to get one I would purchase one with Amber and White LED's.
Does the tuner help?
@@BusinessmanRich Yes it allowed me to manipulate the factory tune, it allows you to select your fuel octane, shift pattern, remove the governor, and other functions. Not many but makes do for my tinkering since I purchased it.

How did you change the steering fluid?
Thanks for the info. Will change my rear end fluid ASAP
The main reasons why the heater cores would leak on the older Crown Victorias was due to the coolant becoming acidic from a bad ground on the alternator. The alternator would ground itself to the coolant.
Who ever changed coolant every 2-3 years to stop corrosion?
I like my 2008 better than the 2003 I had. But the 2003 definitely felt like it was sturdier and better made - the doors closing sounded much more solid than the 2008 does. The locking gas cap was nice, but the 2008 is noticeably faster
right performance wise the newer vics have the edge specially because of the electronic throttle.

Pursuit mode means your gas pedal is mashed to the floor and held there as long as possible,,,!!!!!,

For some reason im really good at guessing the years of vics... look at the tire sizes. The back of the vic, trim, that’s how i can guess
That's good, not everybody know that
Yeah, didn't they up the wheel size from 16 to 17 on the 06's?
I showed at 3 of them on my channel
dome problem has never fixed.
On my first. Favorite car to drive. 2006CVPI
I have an 04, i like the older deep rims, think they had more personality. Mine came with wheel covers and bought new lug nuts to fit the dust caps that I bought for it, made it look better.
92-97 ran 15s
98-05 ran 16's
98-02 had a lip where 03-05 had no lip called faced rims, this was due to brake caliper upgrade.
I love my 2003 crown Vic. It just turned 45,000 miles.
What's so cool about these cars if you can use pretty much any engine bolt on from a 4.6 liter Mustang on this car so there's so much aftermarket love for these cars I'm thinking about getting one of these or a Lincoln Town Car
I had an 88 town car with the 5.0
Loved it!!
Every year there were improvements. That's what makes them - still - a popular commercial vehicle choice. I paint them taxi yellow and can get 300,000 miles if maintained properly.
The undercover interior was keyed to the exterior color of the car, mine is brown on brown
Yes, get a 2003 or newer. Rack and Pinion steering coil over front struts and a bunch of other frame and suspension two tweaks.
Love your Crown vic and your knowledge. Thanks for sharing
Thanks!
There was a recall on something with the steering as well
The 99 an up Crown Vic's got the PI(Performance Improvement) heads place on the 4.6 engine's for better flow like on that ere of Mustang's.
Nope. 03 got the pi heads and intake.
@@pgtmr2713 Only the 03 or 03+
@@xxZerosumxx 03 +
Actually midyear 2001 got the new intake manifold and pi heads
1999 for the Windsor engines - these are in Mustangs. The Romeo engines under the hoods of CVs got the PI upgrade in 2001.
Just had to do my first fix on it a couple weeks ago the wiper motor but they're known for that when the wipers start working without being on LOL
Perfect.
95 marquis, 01 interceptor and 02 interceptor. Love these cars I don't know if I will ever buy something else other than a panther
Well welcome to the channel. I have plenty of videos and a lot of comments on the Crown Victoria, great cars! Hope you get that car soon!
@@BusinessmanRich finally got it Tuesday afternoon. Just had to do plugs this evening. Had a check engine light with misfire in 2,3 and 6
I own a 2005 CVPI P71 with over 165K and she is still running well!
My father has a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis. I have 3 Mustangs (03 v6, 05 GT, 07GT) & wouldn’t mind selling one to get a 2010-2011 Ford CVPI p71. I’m falling for these cars more & more lol
they also made steelies for the 06 in up towncars and grandmarquis they look just like the 06-11 p71 ones just they are deep dished styled
How much are crown Vic's in germany?
@@Kauffman578 about 8000 to 11000€
I have a 05 crown vic .. and I had few of the them in the past they strong champs
2010, 45,000 miles, less than 300 hours idle time - My Crown Vic will run until the day I die, it's awesome.
You forgot to say that the newer PI Vics (2003-on and 2006-on) had a change in 1) steering column with a much better design of rack-and-pinion vs the old ball-bearing steering, 2) larger wheels (17" vs 16" on the older ones).
I was a ford Service Manager at Ford. We did the local PD cars. One came in and the computer showed at one time it hit 141. THAT is is fast.

Just being original and stay consistent.
Front suspension changed front shock absorbers to struts (I think in 07) Also installed a factory tach....
I love this car ❤️ ..
2004 is the best year. No electronic throttle control. Updated transmission/torque converter. best rated hp. PI were rated at 250hp
I'm currently looking for a nice Interceptor. I want one with the spotlight and the deer catcher.
2005 Panther platform vehicles (this includes CVPI) had qtr panel mounted antennas on the passenger side.. This was discontinued that same year.
It’s an 05’ as it has the updated steering wheel/column. The 05’s were the only ones with the updated steering wheel/column with the older dashboard. Also the only year with a regular exterior antenna on the right side near the trunk.
Yea u right new ones are eletric problems true 06 nd up has rpm on dash nd i own 2011 i run e85
YMMV.
FLY BY WIRE???
OUCH
I really appreciate your video, but I got motion sickness about a quarter way through and had to sign off.
98 all da way with 270,000 miles👍💪
belinda h I just bought a 98 and I love it!
How about my 2001 vic that I bought new as a taxi and ended up having 540,000 miles and running great before a drunk driver rear ended me. My mechanic actually teared up a little when he saw it when I towed it over to his shop.
98 too with 237,xxx and still ticking ready for more life.
I bought my 97 it came with a custom blue and black paint job , air shocks, tinted windows and interior TVs for $400
I have a 2006 Crown Vic same color as yours got it like a month ago and I love driving it.
That was a good price.
I always see great deals on these. Almost to the point it's too good to be true 🤔 which makes me wonder if they are reliable?
Rear lights differ, the later ones have the larger Town Car style large lenses for what ever that matters. If its in good shape and runs good, all is fine.
Great video .I'm thinking of buying one this week . it's 2011 crown Victor it has 278,876 on it the guy says it has 400 HP and it's fast it has a push bar on it it's all black .I'm not sure what to look for ? I have a scanner to use . what should I look for ? Thanks 👍🇨🇦
I prefer stock. On any Crown Victoria, make sure everything works like the heat/ac . Check and see if the ball joints have been replaced.
@@BusinessmanRich thanks 👍
Wrong! The intakes always had aluminum cross overs all the way back to the first ones. Ford has since revised the part with a new part number to correct the issue . Don`t buy the Dorman aftermarket intake , it`s poorly made and wont last more than a couple years.
wrong
My black 2000 Police interceptor 350000 still runs amazing!!!
And the older Crown vics had cushioned door panels covered in vinyl unlike the 2003 up with all plastic
Great video. I own a 2005 CVPI P71.
Thanks, welcome to the channel.
Street Cruising 101 your welcome
I should have looked for a newer vic. I own a civilian 93 crown vic and been great except for the throttle body. And good luck finding some parts for any vic made before (95?).
I haven't seen any 94 and back on the road
Street Cruising 101 the standalone crown victoria started in 1989. Prior to that the crown victoria was a package option for the ford Fairlane. Very few 93 crown Victoria's saw use as a interceptor. The 93 was also the first crown victoria to have a grill but it is a mini grill compared to the 96 and up. Prior to 93 the victoria had no grill.
2007 model... Hard to narrow it down.. it's a twin of my 2009 crown Victoria..
