    The regular version of this is definitely on my list. I really like brass, the patina it forms and the joy of polishing it off to let it form again 😅

    Matt, as a fan of your plating and polishing services I have a suggestion for your website. I purchased a SS Karve Overlander from you and wanted it polished, but I could not select available services directly on the razor page. I had to add it separately as another item in the order.
    As a software engineer myself, I believe it would be great to add the available services directly on the page for the specific razor being purchased. If you add this additional dropdown, it will be very clear what service upgrades are available for each razor. For example, on the brass Karve Overlander page you can add a dropdown for polishing and your plating types. It will let new customers clearly know these are "upgrade" options for that specific razor. Just a suggestion. Keep up the great work you guys do at the Razor Emporium ! From a huge fan and loyal customer !

    I ordered 1977 soap and splash over Black Friday, and got it in the mail on Monday. Unfortunately I had already shaved for the day, and wanted to give tallow a fair shake, so I waited until yesterday to shave. I have to say, the scent of 1977 paired extremely well with Dakkar Noir. So much so in fact, it got the wife’s seal of approval! Good job to you and your team Matt, you really hit it out of the park with it, and I will certainly be ordering 1955 soon as well. Going from vegan to tallow based soaps, there is no comparison to how much better the post shave feel is.
    It should be noted that my every shave razor is a ball end tech with a Russian perma-sharp blade and razor emporium synthetic brush.

    Just ordered the 1977. I was born in '73, so I had to have it. I remember the smell of Old Spice, Aqua Velva, Skin Bracer, and Brut (called Brut 33 back then) aftershaves that my dad and uncles all used growing up. Even used some of that stuff myself when I started shaving. Can't wait to get this in my hot little hands.

  • @Leenunes007

    Mine came with a note saying that the plastic washer was only for shipping, and to remove it for the shave. Karve has a similar note in theirs. I think it's about maximum thread engagement.
    It's excellent with the plus plate. I use the plus before work when I want to look better later in the day. I use the original plate if I'm going out right and want to look good now, and I'm not concerned about 10-12 hours later.
    That's my favorite razor for head shaves. The finish helps me feel what's happening in the back of my head.
    Kaleb's a cool guy.

    Thank you for an excellent demonstration. Washers to mitigate marring is an excellent idea. A good material is smooth celluloid wafer-thin (0.12mm) sheets, where a washer can be fashioned using a punch (5mm to 8mm, depending on the coupling between the handle and plates). This acts as an inherently lubricated surface, allowing smooth and precise last 1/8 of a turn tightening, while also preventing grinding of steel-on-steel. The approximately 0.15- 0.3 mm thickness has negligible effect on the geometry of the closed razor. The downside is they can easily be lost when dismantling and cleaning. But they cost next to nothing and ten can be thrown in the box of the new razor.

    Hey Matt. That’s the only Aylsworth razor I don’t have. Just a couple of FYIs. Yates Precision does the mfg for Kaleb and the G5C is not made by Mühle (I think that’s the STF). Thank you for posting this excellent review. I still have my eye on Rex Supply razors. I also feel interested in the synthetic brush. I agree with you, I do not like the idea of packing a razor in a tube like the Kopparkant. I fumble things so much that I prefer items which are in boxes. I feel I can handle them better if I can take them from a box.

    Good review Matt. Looks like you will need to try the reg plate next review. I have and like the Alysworth Drakkant + and OC plates. For synthetic brush knot you need to try the muhle 25mm STF set at about 57mm loft. I’ve tried a bunch including G5C and that muhle knot is the closest to badger and my top knot. It splays and doesn’t not flop back and forth. I get the same from other synthetics especially the ones that want more backbone. Have a good Sunday.

    Awesome! Cool you guy's have Aylsworth in the shop now. The description of 1977 sounds up my alley. I like strong, old school scents. It's funny you mentioned a green couch. When i was a kid. We lived in this house that was built in the 70's. The kitchen looked just like That 70's Show. It had that pea green colored refrigerator and matching green stove. Loll. The countertops were even that 70's vibe. White countertop with green and gold asterisk, snowflake looking symbols all over.

    Great video Matt! I have a Drakkant, Kopparkant and soon to be Apex from Aylsworth and man are they great shaving razors! In fact, the Drakkant is my current #1. What I love about the Drakkant and Kopparkant is the fact Kaleb does provide customers with the option of the standard plate if you prefer mild razors and the plus plate if you prefer something with a little more aggression to it. And like others have said, he not only designs a great looking razor, but he is also a stand up guy as well!

    Hiyya Matt that looks like a nice razor and brush and I have to say that I always use a synthetic brush not because of any ethical issues but simply because I find them better on my skin - my go to brush is a Yaqi Cashmere which I really like. I have also just got my Henson razor that I got from your company (I already have a Fatboy and a Black Beauty also from your site and that nice charcoal soap which I am awaiting delivery of as the original bar is getting thin LOL!!) and I am really impressed by it both from the fact that the shipping to Australia is always very reasonable from your company unlike other deals I have looked at from the US. Now for a reasonably priced and simple designed razor it did a very good job ( and I was using a Feather blade) so thanks for the review you put out on it. I also like the sound of that new soap you have out now but sorry but I am stuck on Taylors of Old Bond Street sensitive and sandalwood😉.

    Nice shave, Matt. And honestly, synthetics have come a long way. I have a few specialized synthetic brushes from places like Billy Goat Brushworks, AKA Brushworx, and CaYuen Workshop (all mostly Etsy stores) and the brushes are PHENOMENAL. They perform exceptionally well and have gotten a ton of uses from me. They either compete with or slightly surpass the few two-band badger brushes that I have, and I've gotten phenomenal lathers produced from their operation. Compared to more commercialized synthetics and other brushes, these artisan-like brushes do a phenomenal job.

    Great review and vid as always. I own the Kopparkant and it is an excellent razor, these are not produced by Yates but by a Chinese manufacturer and nonetheless are very good. I also had the same comment regarding the packaging in my review as the one I received was falling apart...hope they make an adjustment soon.

    • @aylsworthshaves8717
      @aylsworthshaves8717 10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for the notes! Yes, the Kopparkant is made at a big brand watch and jewelry parts manufacturer out of Shenzen, so very high quality machining. Regarding the packaging, the first wave of the tubes were indeed not very strong and we replaced them almost immediately with a much sturdier variety. We don't have any plans to change that for the Kopparkant since we've mostly received positive feedback about the newer sturdier ones, and it differentiates them from our SS and Ti packaging.

      It's just to prevent marring the mating surfaces

    • @aylsworthshaves8717
      @aylsworthshaves8717 10 месяцев назад

      The nylon washer is actually provided as a security measure to prevent the razor from disassembling during shipping due to prolonged vibration. It's recommended to remove it during use, but some people like to leave it in the prevent any wear from metal on metal contact during assembly and help it to retain resale value.
