There may be more people doing Portugal videos but you two do them the best! My wife and I have chosen to go to Lisbon and Madeira largely as a result of your videos. We are going this May for my60th birthday so thank you for your excellent, informative and fun videos! Also my wife and I are both psychotherapists so good for you for taking good care of yourselves!!! We only wish you did tours in Lisbon and Madeira!!!!😊

Our thoughts and reflections are all over the place in this video. We pressed record and started talking, and I think this scatterbrain reflection of 2023 represents how aimless and increasingly hopeless we have felt over the past year. As we mention in the video, we are blessed and grateful for everything we have in this life. We are well aware how lucky we are to live on a tropical island with eternal summer, to have a meaningful relationship with each other and so much more. But one thing we have also learned is that everything is relative and that we, as humans, will adjust to whatever situation, we are in. Some of the most miserable people in the world are billionaires. How is that possible? They have everything in life, right? Well, I think money can contribute to a lot of happiness, but it doesn't buy it. In many ways, life is like that arcade game, Whac-A-Mole, remember? Each mole represents money, love, health, purpose, and even when you've whacked a couple of them, new ones pop up. Thanks for being our virtual friends - and some of you real life friends. We love you and wish you a wonderful 2024. Big hugs from us three ❤❤❤

Here with you in Portugal, manifesting a more fulfilling and peaceful 2024 for all =) and not that you need a reminder but your channel does say VLOG so that in itself negates having to spend months on editing your videos just perfectly.... though you do a beautiful job of that, too!!! Let's jus say for me it is appreciated but not necessary. I will take ya however I can get ⛵ ⛵

True happiness comes from inside, not from external things. Once you have it you can be alone, sick, dying in a blizzard, and you'll still be happy. Chasing things can never bring true peace, as long as there is desire we'll always want more, which translates to never having enough. Once you find true happiness you'll realize you had it all along, there was never anything to desire. But I guess that's the fun part, creating suffering so we'll have an enemy to fight, battles to win, a game to play. Good luck with your game.

I often think about the pressure to constantly create something new for the channel. It would be all pervasive. Personally, I think your content has gotten better and better. It is a challenge to guess what the viewers may want. My advice is to continue what you have been doing so well. Follow your hearts. You are both so creative and articulate. I love your fresh approach. Thank you for taking us along on your "journey".

You guys inspired me to visit Portugal, which I now have done five times.
The things I loved about your videos was that you showed what it was like to live like a local! Showing the cool tiny spots, restaurants, etc., festivals and events, soccer games, rooftop bar views, Amelia, swimming in the ocean,. You were and are people that I’d like to hang out with .

JOURNEY, THERE I SAID IT! It really is. And the true "good thing" in life is the joy of living -- which is buried under all that trauma, pain, grief, shame, sorrow, anger, addiction. We all can get down through that layer caused by our lifetime of experience, and uncover the joy again. I'm doing it -- and know you guys will too! Bless.

I am pretty sure these algorithms are influenced by the titles . Are you also growing your reach on Tik Tok too ?
I don’t know anyone who didn’t have a tough 2023. We are also experiencing global wars and displaced people. Lots of migrants moving around . Yes you are right ! So many changes and we have to keep changing . Sharing your lives using your sense of hunour and filming beautiful content is inspiring and makes me smile . Keep doing … keep showing us what you love to share with us . Have a progressive and abundant 2024. We are alive and that is precious ❤🎉😊. Love you all xx

Hi there, 2023 certainly was a bit of a negative year, not just in Portugal or Europe but globally. We have to have 'lows' on order to have 'highs' but you have to remember that nobody 'fails' until they give up, so don't give up, keep going and you will eventually succeed! Take care everybody!

Hya guys. We've been watching your videos for a while, but are totally getting what you are experiencing. Keep in mind there are no good years or bad years, just years. Life is neither fair nor unfair, just life. The secret sauce is what you make of what you have. You have each other and clearly are figuring out what works for you and what doesn't. For instance alcoholism is bad juju: get help and recover for the rest of your life!
With regard to a new vlog direction, become "good news" advocates, perhaps. Connect with people around you and share what makes them, and you, happy. Then do the same with strangers. Share stories, unburden yourselves. Sharing can be very cathartic. We love you and hugs from the USA. Perhaps we'll bump into you when we visit Madeira in April. Ciao.

I don't know many people who had a good 2023. Indeed, it was a challenging and heavy year for a lot of us, and that can resurface old traumas and pain, especially those we failed to address in the past.
Even though I'm not a RUclipsr, everything you said resonated with me. I lost myself last year and wondered so many times where I go from here. The funny thing is that videos like yours helped me find joy in everyday life. However, I noticed that RUclips (just like our lovely Portugal) is becoming oversaturated. And there are so many RUclipsrs that have picture-perfect videos, everything looks like a Paramount Pictures movie. Their lives seem ideal, even when they say they're struggling. That's off-putting for mere mortals like me.
So, I agree that you should be showing more of your everyday lives and struggles. The general audience is growing tired of polished lives and people who want to come across as regular people but their content works against them. We want to see the bad and the ugly to, honestly, feel better about ourselves. People, more than ever, have an urge to connect and find authenticity. Of course, I'm not saying you were coming across as fake or rich or whatever, but many RUclipsrs who make similar content did. So, just be yourselves, and don't bother trying to make every video visually top-notch. Raw and vulnerable content has become more rare on RUclips, especially after the pandemic.

well, since you asked, 2023 was, by far, my toughest year also. Amidst many personal battles, I just lost both my stepfather and mother to cancer, and that literally blew me apart. It was such a challenging and exhaustive year, doing everything in my power in trying to save them, and only to lose it all at the end. Now, I'm overwhelmed with a profound sense of emptiness, lacking the strength or will to move forward. The pain is still raw; they passed away within a month of each other, my mother just a few days before Christmas. Apologies for sharing this, but it's been heavy on my heart...
I really hope you guys find joy in the videos to come; and may 2024 uplift your spirits, just as your videos have done for so many of us. Take care guys (and everyone in the community), and here's to better days ahead 🥂

I thought your message was very clear and concise - and refreshingly honest. It is great that you honestly shared your frustrations of the never-ending pressures ( I imagine) of having to produce content on a regular basis.Maybe that your loyal regular viewers who have followed you from the get-go can 'sense' when you are not enjoying it anymore, and the pressure you feel maybe projects onto your followers. i loved this video because if you have insight intowhat is not making you happy, it is the first step to change. I will continue to follow you, and less production (although your productions were very professional and polished) and more of 'you' sounds good to me! Here's to 2024

Just a note of support for your videos on travel. I liked the Brazil and Mexico stories but by far the NYC ones were exceptionally good. I have been watching you for many years now, and enjoy your recent ones moving Joen's parents. My least lijed videos were the ultra luxury ones because I don't have a budget or tolerance to live that lifestyle (especially when others have need).

    Hello!
I've been watching your videos since you lived in Lisbon (Saldanha). In my opinion, there are thousands of youtubers with excellent content and the competition is greater than ever, but what will set you apart from the rest is You! Of course it helps to have good cameras and drones, but if the personal component isn't present (what you like, what you do, what you visit, the difficulties and joys) those who watch won't relate to you, they won't "know" you.
I believe it's difficult to decide and separate what you want to show on RUclips and what is your private life, but for there to be a community of people who look forward to your videos every week, whether you're in Portugal or in China, the personal factor is the most important.
Hope you have a great 2024!

I just want to say, that I've been watching you both since you first moved to Portugal. And was inspired by you both in so many ways. Gave me one of many pushes to move to Portugal a couple of years ago. Was inspired by the location that I wanted to move to based on one of your videos. I've been able to share my love of Portugal with my mum, in the hopes of her moving there too (which she does and wants to retire there). I have since moved back to the UK, but I keep watching you both, because of you guys. Because I think both of you are so entertaining, informative and most importantly honest. I can't help but laugh when you two have tiny arguments. And I can say that I don't follow or am emotionally invested in any of the other people that I have seen move to Portugal in the past.

Wishing you both a very happy, healthy and successful 2024.
I want to thank you both for this very candid video. I really enjoyed it.
I have followed you two through your RUclips channel for the last 4 years or so. I loved watching your enthusiastic visits to different areas of Portugal. I also loved seeing you share your dreams and showing us your future home. I do know that that video had lots of negative comments and I feel you let those negative comments affect you too much and change what you put out in future videos.
I would like to say that we are building a home in Portugal (started in Nov 2021 and still not in our home either - new expected completion date is late March), we are still in the US and so we watch many RUclipsrs building or renovating a home in Portugal or elsewhere. Personally, i think you should put out content that you are passionate about, and your home and the build and move in is no doubt apart of that. Ignore the doubters, do what you enjoy and your views will go back up to what it used to be.
Personally I can't wait to see you guys move in and show how things in the new home work. Questions I have, how do you setup water and electrics with the câmara? How do you pick and evaluate internet provider? Do you have real or fake grass abs why did you choose one over the other. Be real show the ups and downs, the challenges and the wins.
Of all the RUclipsrs we watch and we follow at least 35 or so religiously, you are were our favorite but the last 12 months or so you seem to have last your vibe.
PS: I also love watching Amelia in the kitchen, I miss her channel videos too.
This is a long post but wanted to share my thoughts and thank you both once again for bringing me so much joy through your incredible drone footage, your take on life on Portugal.
Good luck in the new year. Lots of love to you both

Your portugal content and focus has been great! That being said, there is no need to pigeon-hole yourself ;) Great personalities, honest conversations and PASSION = great content. We have fallen for you both for you who are, not what you show. Know no limits & stay true to who you are now and who you may become. Happy 2024, good luck with everything and looking forward to seeing what's next

I think there were two or three things that led people away from watching more of your channel. The adventure of constant discovery, which is difficult to maintain, faded away. Your videos followed the natural evolution from this difficulty, which was the path of professionalisation to the detriment of spontaneity, as you mention. I personally missed the frequency with which you uploaded your channel in the beginning. I also miss the disappearance of the live sessions, which I used to enjoy even though I only watched them on a delayed basis.
And I'm surprised you haven't uploaded anything about New Year's Eve in Madeira, the Christmas lights, the fireworks, and so on.
I wish you three all the best and a positive 2024🖖🚯

I was touched by your video. I agree that 2023 was a challenging year, but I feel that I’m coming out of it with a new perspective on self-care and better expectations for 2024.
I think that many people would be interested in learning more about travel and unique self-care/healthy experiences in those locations. I know that being forced to go full steam ahead in the rat race of the office… has made me long for self-care when I travel. I personal love learning about things that the locals do to relax, eat and enjoy life. What do they do for self-care? What can they teach me? I think that it might at least be a nice segment to add/explore to your videos. (I know that it’s more easier said than done.) I think that if you are open and honest as you were in this video… that you will find your voice and creative passion again. Wishing you an amazing 2024 full of much joy, happiness and growth!

I think people are getting tired of all the travel content (been there, done that). But, there is only one channel with you two in it. That’s what makes it unique. I would prefer daily life- cooking, you meeting locals, going for walks, having a laugh together, hanging out with your parents, etc. :)

I think its about a nomadic lifestyle, that i like seeing from you guys. I'm Portuguese, but would love to see how's it like to live in places that eventually are nomad friendly or trying to discover them. Bali, for example, is completely exploited in this sense, but i wonder if there's gems out there to be discovered. Maybe even portuguese speaking countries, like "Cabo Verde"??
Either way , hope you keep doing content, love your vibe as a couple.

It can be super hard to pivot from one theme/audience to another, but there's always the possibility of having two channels. This is totally unsolicited advice, but I just feel like sharing this as I had the opposite experience in 2023. As a creator for the longest time I just kept tacking things onto my main project because it had already built up those views/subscribers over the years. Then I finally spun off one topic into its own thing and it couldn't have been a better move. It was scary to 'start from 0' but with the knowledge I had gained it was way easier than expected. Now I had 2 focused audiences...
I found your channel via your travel adventures btw. A video about, idk, finding a bird on Porto Santo is extremely watchable material to me. I'm less into the spiritual quest or big issue videos despite being really into your personalities. So maybe I'm one of those viewers that is messing up your stats which is screwing with the algorithm...
Hope you have a much better 2024 both in your creative and personal life :) I really enjoy your videos!

I do support you Guys and have been subscribed for a couple of years. We had a wonderful Portugal and Madeira vacation in 2021 mostly because of you two, (and want to go back). Yes, things change, but you have stuck together while figuring it out, so very good. So many have not and split up. Retired now with a new country about every 6 weeks. A week each in Paris and Marseille early February, then Ajijic, Mexico the next month. The France trip is STRICTLY about Croissants, French Pastries and Baguettes whose quality is not found here in Florida where we live. I think a good direction for your Channel would be to go to a Great City (European mostly) and focus on whatever they do best, maybe 1 per month. Paris certainly for the items mentioned, but also possibly Italy - Pizza and Pasta, Munich - Schnitzel, Sauerbraten and Beer, Switzerland - Fondue, Cheeses and Chocolates. You guys love high quality foods, so this is a natural for you, but also for your Subscribers. Then add to each city a few of their iconic landmarks. 'What is it actually like to dine atop the Eiffel Tower, Dinner on the Rhine (look at Le Calife 's boat). Tell your Subscribers they MUST go, "just stop this video now and buy a ticket to Paris, it's THAT wonderful". Do a 'Deep Dive' into each food item showing WHY it's so delicious in that city. In preparing for my Paris trip, I've watched almost EVERY RUclips video on Paris Croissants and French Pastries, how they're made, Bakers getting up at 2 am to produce what is actually Artwork. Amazing! OK, as I sometimes say to my friends, "No extra change for all this information, it's all included on your regular Monthly Invoice!!!!!!! Ha.

The ONE thing my wife and I enjoyed and was a positive , was our trip to Portugal. We watched your channel before going and we felt you both just have a good vibe. Maybe you guys can rebrand "Stay Classy." I can see how it might feel that you boxed yourselves into being a travel channel focused on Portugal - and how it's becoming more difficult to differentiate yourself from the myriad of other channels offering a similar focus. My wife suggests that Amalie focus on the cuisine of the Iberian peninsula and interior design. Amalie and Juen, could you alternate between topics? Food isn't only about the food - it's wrapped up in the culture, history, and psychology of those who partake.

Amalie & Jamil, you are both great human beings, my wife and I have loved all of your videos and will always support you in everything you do. I believe 2023 was a difficult year for mistress people with the world and the politics changing everywhere. My wife and I have been planning on retiring to Portugal in 2-3 years but with the NHR going away and not having a tax break that comes with that visa, we have started considering other possible countries to retire to like Slovenia, Greece or even possibly Spain but Only in the 6 regions of Spain the have done away with the Death/Wealth tax, which is a deal breaker for sure, we like the fact that Portugal does not have the death tax, but with the NHR going away and no 10 year break on taxes, Portugal is no longer an option for us. We know that 2024 will be a great new year and a fresh new start for you and we pray for you both every day. Thank you for being a part of our lives and enriching our days with everything you share with you audience on all of your adventures. God bless you both and thank you Svetlana and Michael.

From the way you guys are talking you'd almost think you had just murdered someone!! Go easy on yourselves, from what I can see you're not doing any harm! Seems to me like you guys are growing and realising that the deeper things in life are more important than the superficial things that tend to be pushed by society so much these days. Unfortunately the more superficial things tend to get more views, which is more a reflection on the society we are in than a personal attack on people who are making more meaningful content but maybe get less views. You guys are great and just have to be yourselves wherever that takes you! And btw, as a foreigner who has also lived on Madeira for a few years, it can be get a little strange living here after a while and although the people are good etc and Id never complain about them I think it's fair to say that everyone from abroad who has spent a decent amount of time here knows that Madeirans arent exactly the most warm kind of people with whom its easy to build deep connections, so it's easy to feel a bit isolated and having something of an existential crisis in a place like this where its like you've "got it all" but now what?! Anyway go easy on yourselves, you guys seem ok to me :)

I subscribed to your channel when you were doing Brazil and because it was authentic and raw. I think you have an opportunity to do Brazil (from an English speaking perspective) but also introduce the world to much more than Copacabana, Ipanema, Avenida Paulista, or Pelourinho or Barra. If you could transport your audience to Rio for example as a local Carioca (off the beaten track with regards to food, wine, beer, music, beaches and the local people) it would gain massive momentum.
