I Wove a Pine Needle Bowl and Tried Natural Dyes on Pine Needles

Join me on a natural dyeing adventure as I experiment with using cochineal and weld to dye pine needles! In this vlog, I take you through my process of testing these traditional natural dyes on foraged pine needles.
First, I prepare dye baths using cochineal, an insect-based dye that produces beautiful shades of pink and red, and weld, a plant that yields a brilliant yellow. I tested the dyes on the needles to see if I could achieve a dyed result on pine needles.
After dyeing needles in cochineal and weld, I get to work on a sculptural pine needle basket. Watch as I twine and coil the colorful needles into an organic bowl shape, playing with color placement and patterns.
The finished bowl is a one-of-a-kind functional art piece that showcases the natural beauty of the dyed pine needles. I'm thrilled with how the colors and textures came together!
