What a wise, loving and sensible mother. Your baby is so precious, so beautiful. I agree with every comment you have made. Cleanliness, do not panic, and a sensible regime for removing cradle cap that is safe, painless and as long lasting as possible. I am
A mother of three, grandparent of eight, and have fostered and adopted. I was also a senior social worker for over 25 yrs working with many, many families. So I’ve come across cradle cap many times. This is why I am so enthusiastic about your advice. Thank you so much. I would add that his condition is not to be feared, but should also not be neglected. It CAN become harder, with thicker and bigger flakes. When this happens it’s harder to treat. So please do as this amazing lady says. I recall many years witnessing a small child about 2-3years old being left with her sister, Age5, in a park without any parental supervision. It was actually at a summer play scheme my mother was running in a deprived area Of the county. I must have been about 10yrs old. The older of the two children was playing on the swing and hadn’t realised that her little sister was toddling right in path of the rear of the swing that her sister was using. The first thing I remember was my mother screaming “watch out” From the other side of the park. The little one was bumped right across her forehead, or so we thought. My mother ran like I had never seen her run before. By the time she got to the injured child, she was on her feet, beginning to cry, and blood beginning to drip down her face. My mother scooped the child up and we ran all the way to the local nurse’s house who fortunately lived close by. I remember that it was my job to bring along the poor unwashed older of the two girls, running as best as we could, to keep up with Mom. Luckily the nurse was home for her lunch. She took Us into her kitchen, and began to wipe the blood away, to look for the site of the wound. Much to everyone’s shock, as she gently lifted the little girl’s hair, it looked almost as if much of her scalp had been ripped off by the force of the swing hitting her whilst it was in motion. What it actually was, was a massive build up of cradle cap, that had covered the whole of the top of the child’s head, and a few head lice thrown in for good measure. I can recall being so scared, as I thought the top of her head was coming off, probably not helped by the adults gasping in horror at the sight. Actually there’s an arguement to say that maybe the extra layers created by the cradle cap provided some protection. Who knows. All I know was that as a 10yr old I was shaken and never forgot the incident, (and as a result have remained keen to keep an eye on the best treatments for C.Cap). I also recall the telling off my mother gave the mother of the children, followed by a much kinder lesson in how to bathe her daughter, and deal with cradle cap. It wasn’t my mom’s job to do this, but I can still see her now, popping into the home of this poor young women every night for the rest of the summer, to help her feed and bathe her children ready for bed. Oh yes, and the house seemed an awful lot cleaner by the time school started in the autumn. Sorry this a long ‘comment’, but I wanted to say thank you for your wisdom, that reminds me of one hot summer afternoon, over 50 years ago. I hope you’re wisdom is appreciated by all who read it. My very best wishes and all my blessings to you your family, including that wonderful baby you have been so kind to let us see. Teresa. (UK).

@@BBphysiolifestyle you are so very welcome. It was a very easy comment to write, (but maybe not so easy to read because of its length), simply because every word I have written is true. I truly wish you and your loved ones health, happiness and safety for many years to come. Please do keep writing in the way you have. I know there are many, many new Mums, and not so new, but who are looking for sensible information such as this, and others like myself no longer a new Mom, but try to refresh my mind with childcare matters. You really presented this so very, very well.
      Take care of yourself.
Thank you so much for replying.
      Love and best wishes,

I believe it's itchy if eczema is associated with it. I've removed it from several babies scalp, some of the babies drool and eyes roll back from the satisfaction of it being removed, my guess is that it satisfies the itch.

Omg just made me remember how this thing dealt with my first son😢his own even got to his skin and it was J.baby oil. That oil is not meant for hair at all,it was one shampoo they gave us that stopped it. Watching you comb it out,I just feel for the baby😢

It is hard to get but if you can find lecithin oil dab a bit on cotton wool and it disappears in front of your eyes you have to wash baby's hair very frequently to remove oil don't use soap on their scalp and treat it as soon as you see it baby's produce a lot of oil and it has to be removed or it just sits their and forms a crust that's what cradle cap is
