I think he's a little bit overrated. He's super tough and gritty but his technique is not the highest level. He has a good jab, good power and he mixes things up well on the feet. His wrestling technique is just not great. He relies on trying to muscle his opponents down in the clinch. He's very good but people were comparing him to Khamzat before this fight. After seeing Shavkat's last few performances, I think it's safe to say that someone like Khamzat would ragdoll him.

By that logic Colby and Gilbert Burns should have became champs. Colby had 2 razor close fights with a dominant Usman, and Burns had razor close fights with Usman and Khamzat. Not trying to be antagonistic to your perspective or anything, and I get what you're saying, but having close fights with dominant fighters doesn't historically have a precedent of future champs.
I don't necessarily think Garry will improve that drastically as time goes on, I think this is his peak. This peak is extremely high and definitely cements him as top 5 for quite a few years, but I doubt he will ever take the belt.

awful fight by shavkat. He knows how to wrestle but won't wrestle. He knows how to box but won't let his hands go. He knows how to kick but won't use kicks. He is waiting for opponents to hit him so he can strike back. Even in that last round he had a great opportunity to ground and pound Ian, but he wasted that opportunity by just sitting there. He almost gave Ian a win. It will be a pity if he continues to fight like this and waste his talent. He needs a better coaching team. He cannot beat Belal by fighting like this.

Shavkat understands this better than Ian, that's why he won. Ian should have gone in trying to finish, but expecting that it may not happen and get ahead on score ASAP. Ian came in on short notice, but shavkat could have simply waited for his title shot. Shavkat 100% earned this win.

It's these types or fights I like: now, mostly everyone has respect for Garry. Unreal fighter and took his first loss very well. This should be a rematch down the line, and hopefully, one of these will have the belt to put on the line. But Shavkat without doubt should most definitely be fighting for an undisputed title next, 110%. God I love MMA.

Before fighting Garry, Shavkat was already the official title challenger. He shouldn't have even fought this fight, it put his record and his shot at the belt at risk. Still he accepted and fought a younger, undefeated guy who is seventh in the rankings, risking everything. He won well and deserves respect.

both fighters incredibly fast. Ian showed how to deal with the eastern wrestlers... as soon as there was a td attempt he had mad hustle and scrambled with everything he had. very few fighters do that, they seem to accept the td and try to save energy. "playing to not lose" never works

Close fight, could have gone either way, but I dont see how Shavkat won round 2, you cant just hold someone there and make multiple failed attempts to take them down, if anything, Ian Garry won that round as he was defending takedowns for 5 minutes straight, but this was a close fight
