@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Greetings Hans! I’m curious about your thoughts on using a Halo Bolt battery. With usb into its dc 5V 2.4 amp max connections? I recently got a Bluesound Node Nano, and man do I love it. I use an external dac, and the Halo battery for its power supply atm. I have an IFI power supply coming today. Do you think it would be better served with my bluesound than the halo? I also power my Mojo 2 with the halo, when I’m using it in desktop mode at least. So I’d be curious if you think the IFI would be better for the streamer or the dac, both, or neither at all because the Halo is better? Ultimately I’m going to test all this, just wondering what you think. Love your channel!
I guess the video sort of hints at the IFI probably being better. But the halo is a nice battery. I think if the IFI makes a significant difference to the streamer I’ll get another one for the mojo 2.
Thank you for your amazing channels and the fantastic content!! I wonder if you remember the maker of the power supplies and pre amps that were quite unique in their design. They were cylindrical in shape, laid on their side with, what looked like air cooling fins along their length. I only ever saw them in black, but they may also have been available in silver. I hope you can help!!! Thanks again
1:18 “Surprisingly...” ROTFL!!! Hans your videos keep being as informative as always, but the added humor is a plus! Thanks!
Informative video. Personally, I only use power linear supplies for my transport/streamer, DAC and amplifier. On top of that I use a power purifier. It makes a massive difference, soundwise.
Hoi Hans, mooi stukje weer. SMPS tegenwoordig is al zo goed dat het omslagpunt van LP naar SMPS wordt tegenwoordig ook door duurdere audio makers omarmd. Hoe kijk jij hier tegenaan?
Any power supply type c an be good when designed well. The best DAC I have heard up till now, the Grimm MU2, uses a switch mode power supply. Just saying.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel dank je Hans. Ik ben het helemaal met je eens. Hi Hans - I do not understand you recommend a switch mode power supply for digital equipment - but in one of your reference set-ups you are using a linear power supply (Shanti) in combination with a digital streamer (Allo USBridge). Can you explain?
I don't believe in dogma's, I choose what sounds the best. A switch mode power supply doesn't need to sound better or worse than a linear one. It depends on how well it is designed. My Grimm Audio MU1 music player has a SMPS. Often, with better digital to digital devices the SMPS is of higher quality and then it is in many cased recommendable since SMPS's are capable of faster current delivery. But if a linear PSU sounds better, use that. BTW, they will sound different in most cases.
Hi - nice video. Is it worth upgrading the wall wart switch mode supplies that come with internet routers? I heard they can introduce a lot of electrical noise into the electrical circuit they are connected to?
Dear Hans, I want to modify my Cisco 2960 8tcl networkswitch by removing the standard SMPS. I can buy a Ifi iPower X new (msrp 100,00)or Sbooster Eco MK2 second hand for about 175,00. I understand it is hard to say which will preform better in this configuration without try and listing. Can you perhaps give me advice based on your experience?
It is my experience that in general digital devices like switches perform better with audiophile switch mode power supplies. But there are those that think different.
Hey Hans Drew from Hawaii with the scorpio speakers! I've been watching your channel for about a year, just starting to stream Tidal mqa. I got the iMac with Audirvana and a MQA DAC. Just 2 days ago I seen your review on the original sotm sms 200. I'm about to order the sms200 neo and was thinking about the sBooster mk2. The spec of the 200 neo is Power requirement Input Voltage : +6.5 ~ 12Vdc Power : Max 15W. Do I want to get a 7v sBooster or anything within 6.5-12v? Thanks for any answer you can offer. I'm unsure what voltage to get, 7, 9, 12...
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel you're awesome Hans, thank you, I know you don't offer buying advice but I'm at a crossroad. The sBooster shipped to Hawaii offers a $84 savings over the matching sotm power supply. What do I do $84 buck will not break my bank but on pure performance do I get the sBooster or sotm power supply?
after upgrading my origin live's turntable motor's power supply, i can hear details from behind my head. could never figure out why but hearing is believing.
I don't have many experience on LPS, but I know the smps iFi iPower Elite their flagship psu is god like miracle. compare to battery power is like x10 to x20 times better in iPower Elite.
It's not important whether a PSU is a linear or switching type, It's important it's well designed and built for then both types can perform well (and will not be the cheapest).
I just swapped my sms-500 sotm power supply normally used for my sotm streamer and the sbooster power supply normally used for my Mytek Brooklyn. The sound noticeably improved to my ears. Punchier. I would have thought the dac would be more sensitive to power and wouldn't like a smps like the sotm. Hmmm.
@@joshua43214 Can you tell us which medical grade power supplies from Mouser that you've had good experience using? The number of power supplies listed on the Mouser site is difficult sort out for me. Thanks.
Is it worthwhile to add a better power supply on a Mesh router (was thinking for the Ipower x)… and what do you think about using a Mesh router (vs main router) to feed a streamer (with an Ethernet cable)?

I did mention psu’s by Allo and Audiophonics.
Yes! I've been on the edge of my swivel chair waiting for H.B. to chop it up about power supplies :-D

Thank you sir

Great video, thank you. What it the difference between the power supply and the power conditioner?
A power supply converts grid's 115 0r 230 volts AC into a low DC voltage. A power conditioner filters out interference coming from the grid.
Do I buy a PSU for my streamer, my DAC or both and if so which one first?
That depends on the gear you own
Thank you very much Hans
Welcome!
Great advice as usual 👍

Great video. You lost me at the superconductors, when you said streamers, DACs and preamps were analogue.
I understand. I meant that they contain analog audio and therefore I prefer linear psu’s.
Would be great to look at power conditioners too.
