Awesome enclosure. You need to add 2 more items. A female friend and some mosquito fish for his little water feature to keep it from turning into a mosquito farm. Great job! Love it

I absolutely agree with the mosquito fish. But not with getting a female turtle. A single male and a single female in a restricted enclosure, the male will drive the female crazy and never leave her alone. Not a healthy and happy situation.

  • @michaelbird6084

Very nice natural looking enclosure! Many people don't do proper research before getting a new pet so I'm glad you took the time to do that for the turtle. He should be happy in his new home.

This is such a relaxing video! I love DIY projects where you can let your imagination run wild and create the perfect little slice of nature for the wild/wild critters! I won't lie though when I read the description of the video I was excited to see you build the actual enclosure with the Home Depot theme song (which totally slaps way more than it should tbh 😂) but this was great nonetheless! Also I'm curious to see how the Hibiscus and Boston Fern hold up in Canada!! You totally need to do a live orchid vivarium with orchid mantis too one day!
Also Kayla using an angle grinder without safety goggles with the 'ah f*** it, I'll just squint' energy 😂😂😂

Great build--love how much space you gave your animal--we have three (all younger and smaller than yours and gave them a 5' x 15' enclosure).
For water, we added a 30 gallon Home Depot pond and it overflowed into another large flower pot that was dug into be ground level. In that lower level, we used a small bucket (1.5 gallon I believe) as a pump vault and filled surrounded it with rocks large at the bottom and small gravel near the top and the return pump went to the upper level via PVC in a reverse underground filter manner.
Basically, if you look at pond designs, the lower level works as an intake bay and the upper level works as a bog filter.
All of that to say this kept the water flowing which eliminated mosquitos and kept the water cool for the turtles which are always in the bottom level drinking, soaking and eating snails that showed up in the plants. I wonder if the mosquito fish would bake in the filter-less method. It also keeps the water crystal clear, not stagnant and rainwater replenishes 90% of it.
Lastly, I also used staples for the wire mesh but have replaced them all with U-Nails... the staples worked great for a while but seam to work their way loose and I feared the possibility of the turtles consuming them--at least while they're still shiny. Rusty ones probably get ignored.

Nice video to enjoy my morning coffee to. Greetings from Ohio, summer is finally here!!! I had a friend with a little outdoor yard pond that a bullfrog made his home, and we would just sit on the porch for hours listening to him. That frog had everything a frog could want. Clean water, plenty of bugs to eat, rocks and tall grass to hide in, rocks to get warm on. My project this year is to get a little pond going and try to attract one. Have coffee with hummingbirds and butterflies. lol

I was thinking if you want a more out-of-the-ordinary name, Beaumont Box Turtle has a nice ring to it. Beaumont Newhall was the father of the history of photography.

I applaud your efforts! Quick question did the turtle table say the subtropical geranium or the temperate winter hardy geranium (Geranium pratense)? There are a bunch of them to choose from that will come back for many years to give cover for your long lived tut tut.

    • @kaylaroach
      @kaylaroach  Год назад

Thanks! According to The Tortoise Table, most species from the Geranium genus are safe to use, or at least all the species that are readily available in garden centres. If plants grow back next year, cool! If not, I’ll be very happy to go shopping for more, haha! Thanks for watching 🙏🏼

I found this particular video really exciting. I am biased, but i wish chelonia were more popular within the reptile community. I feel many "reptile rooms" lack aquatic chelonian species.
Also i love the larger water feature, it shows people that eastern terrapene species are capable of swimming and appreciate soaking.

Turtles dig really deep! He can dig his way out! Did you put some wires around the enclosure about 18 inches around your enclosure and alone the bottom???

Can you do a video about how you maintain your crested gecko terrarium? How do you prune your plants? Specially the umbrella plant?
I have an umbrella plant growing outside and it gets pretty tall.

I mist the enclosure every day and trim the plants occasionally when I see fit! That’s about it!

I do pest control and within recent years there’s a new type of mosquito control available that’s actually safe for pollinators. Doesn’t have spraying and actually sterilized the female mosquitos. I can send you some info on it if you’d like and you can see a
If it’s available in your area !
