Literature is the name of one's distinct expression of views, one's separate way to argue their points. The Wasteland was produced against a backdrop of World War I when millions of innocent people were brutally slaughtered, people had witnessed the deaths of their loved ones on close quarters. Never in human history prior to that event were so many people killed in a single fight, never had the world witnessed that much of destruction and bloodshed before.
This is the beauty of literature that it gives every person an equal opportunity to articulate their feelings. If the Indian authors were optimistic and full of hope, it doesn't mean that all the world was obliged to share their feelings.
If you had read the poem till the very end, you would certainly have said that altough Eliot paints a depressingly bleak picture of the world, nonetheless, at the end he urges the reader to be patient and hopeful that better times would follow these times of lamentation. All,humans have to do is to have a slight patience and faith.
