Does Traditional Wrestling survive?

- Currently at a popular level in China there is a big decline in interest in traditional martial arts. There is instead a great development of the Olympic Tae Kwon Do, of the effective Muai Thai and of the brutal and lucrative MMA (also for betting). Traditional styles are increasingly cultivated only by niches of enthusiasts. An exception to this trend is Shuai Jiao, traditional wrestling, which continues to be much loved. The reasons are many and varied, first of all the deep cultural, aesthetic and parochial roots of this art (the style of one's own city is always the best). Hence the fact that many of the traditional conditioning and strengthening exercises of wrestling are also a moment of popular play and sharing. The same thing can be said about tournaments held outdoors in the meadows, not just competition, but also fun and entertainment. Finally, which is no small feat, shuai Jiao is very effective in self-defense and can complement and strengthen other traditional styles. For this and other reasons, traditional wrestling not only survives in China, but also enjoys excellent health. In this video some recent footage taken from Chinese social media.

A great compilation of training methods and styles, thanks !
In this case, even though they are different schools and different locations, they are all Shuai Jiao practitioners. Other wrestling methods linked to different ethnic groups and how wrestling is used to integrate other styles are also very interesting. I will document this in the future.
People's interest or reasons vary. I support traditional styles, but I also only like honesty and integrity. If something is only an exercise, fine. But Kung Fu must be effective in my opinion.
Very nice collection of videos from varous Shuaijiao groups in Beijing and Tianjin. ❤🙏👍
Dear Master, thanks to this video one can clearly understand why authentic kung fu masters were always very strict in correct body postures and flexibility. They always had in mind that kung fu was created to fight, not to show off. That is to say, what is represented in the routines is a hand-to-hand fight, it is not even thought of in terms of punches and kicks.
Our Western mind always sought to translate concepts in terms of sports such as boxing or sabate for example, never in terms of fighting. The Hong Kong movies didn't help much in this regard either. I believe that a new opportunity is opening up for kung fu traditionalists, to recompose the meaning of the art and there is a lot of work ahead.
Yes, what you write is important. Traditional wrestling helps us better understand the true essence of our routines.
Thank you
Hello! Of course Shuaijiao will remain. The abundance of basic methods is proof of this. After all, these methods have been carried through a large amount of time. Quanshu styles that separate themselves from Shuaijiao not only lose effective methods useful for combat, but also miss the very essence of Chinese Martial Arts, where Shuaijiao techniques are the basis, Qinna is the fixation of the enemy, and strikes are the consequence and finishing.
Ciao, what you write is important! To remember. 🙏🏽
I want to keep your words to briefly explain the essence of Chinese martial arts. What is your name? So I can put it in the quote.
@@DanteBasili I'm flattered. Thank you🙏. My name is Evgeniy. My Russian surname is longer than the quote itself. However, the main point of this quote is that as long as Western practitioners of Chinese Martial Arts treat Quanshu as kickboxing, they will lose in fights with less skilled representatives of combat sports. Because up until the 20th century in China, instead of striking with bare hands, they used edged weapons. And if two fighters with knives grapple in a fight and grab each other’s hands, the one who knocks the other down with a sweep and finishes what he started will win. Anyone who has found themselves in such a situation knows how ambiguous the outcome is. The Chinese are very practical; they created fighting styles specifically to save their lives and not for the sports ring
Grazie Evgeniy 🙏🏽
@@DanteBasili Grazie!!!🙏
This is outstanding!! And motivational!!!
Ciao Alfred. Yes very much, I'm glad you appreciate it. I intend to regularly monitor how martial arts are experienced in China at the level of popular practice.

Просто и эффективно
Hermoso!!!
Shuaijiao is beautiful and dangerous. I would love to find some traditional training to give ir a try.
Get some Kettlebells and build up some basic gross motor functional strength first while you find a suitable teacher.
All the best.

meraviglioso!
Does anyone know if the Chinese military or police train in Shuaijiao? Thanks.
Ciao David. While waiting for someone more knowledgeable about recent times to reply, I can only answer you regarding military training in China in the eighties: it was based on the use of the bayonet, both inserted into the rifle and held, therefore very Qin Na and Shuai Jiao and some foot and hand strikes.
The modern approach of fighting for the Chinese Police is SANDA.

Thank you both for your replies.
Great video Great kung-fu
Very cool!
Shuai jiao is amazing. I miss it
Whatever style you practice, Shuai Jiao can give great help and understanding. 🙏🏽
👏👏👏👏👍
Muy importante. Saludos. ❤😅🤗
Sí importante. Siempre me sorprende cómo se puede seguir practicando un arte antiguo a pesar de que todo lo demás en el mundo cambia rápidamente.

What a fantastic collection of simple tool-assisted exercises with martial applications.
It is a typical procedure of traditional Chinese wrestling: Jibengong, fundamentals, performed both free body and with simple tools and therefore martial and combat applications.
O
Been watching a channel called Mongolianwrestling very similar style, interesting training though, love the teacher in the wheelchair
Same here. The part with him and the two youths moved me to tears. Everything about martial arts. Everything about life. Captured in those few seconds.
Magnífico video amigo

Buona giornata Carmine 🙏🏽
@@DanteBasili Grazie Maestro, anche a lei. :)
Excellent!
Thanks for sharing!
Ciao Stefan. Traditional wrestling preserves so much of the essence of what we do in other Chinese styles as well. 🙏🏽
I love Shuai Jiao
without a doubt it is a very effective martial art...
Yes Nicola, and it is at the root of so much of "our" Kung Fu. Many concepts in Taolu that seem obscure from the point of view of kicks and punches are illuminated from the point of view of wrestling.
어떤 무술인가요? 태극권 추수인가요?
