I loved hearing you hollar for the cows, Danny! And they moo back at ya!!! Nice to hear you two Conversation back and forth and to know the love and companionship you share among each other! I love your sweet story! Wish I had a partner, spouse or someone to share my gardening life with at times! Being a widow of 15 yrs now and my son growing up fast at 17... I'm feeling the 'Empty Nest' part of life now! Just grateful to have a gorgeous place to garden and call home! Blessings 😊 ❤️ 🙏
What a wonderful harvest, Danny and Wanda! Love how well you get along together in the field and in life. Can't wait to see the next surprises! Much love and blessings!
God has blessed you this year with your larder. The gardens have looked wonderful. May you continue to be blessed thru the rest of your growing season.
Loved your video. PLEASE show us some more videos of you digging these sweet potatoes. There is something about digging potatoes and carrots that is so enjoyable. I was praying for your safety. Praise GOD !
I ordered your sweet potato book a few days ago. I can't wait to grow my own next year. I'm the only one in my family that will eat them, but I'm excited to grow for just myself! Thanks for sharing all your knowledge.
Never heard of white sweet potatoes, and I have lived in Mississippi all of my life. We never raised potatoes in the garden and were only familiar with the red ones bought at the grocery during holidays. Thanks for educating me on the different varieties.
Wish I had someone. My husband died three years ago. He would be outside doing his thing. Me in garden. But there to talk and help each other. So it is just me and God enjoying what he gives me and the strength to do it. Bless you both❤️🙏
I agree! - conversation with a partner in the garden makes work fun. I have to do all my gardening alone mostly. What amazes me about you two is that you are in such great shape to kneel or remain squatting that long...wow, what a blessing!
I would leave it until the vines start to turn yellow about mid October before the first frost, and allow them to cure for at least two weeks before storing. Also, you can eat the greens. They are not related to regular potatoes (which are in the nightshade family) but are related to the morning glory family. You can eat the leaves like you might a wilted/cooked spinach. They're pretty good.
Weeding in the garden with my son was one of my favorite times. Because he talked a lot more, shared things in his heart. He is off at college now and I miss those times in the garden with him.
Dang cows can be work. 30 of my dads cows escaped the other night, they busted through the cattle gate. I knew when I heard them bellowing late at night that something was wrong, thought maybe it was a coyote, but they was just escaping to my front yard to graze. I had to run them all back in with a flashlight and a stick.
The only thing I can think of is if you planted seed potatoes from a hybrid potato. Many times both parent plants they used to cross to make a better variety, will show up during harvest. Some look like mom and some like dad!
Such a sweet bucolic scene watching Danny feed the hungry cattle against that blessed breeze. Pink/white must be cross germination. Wanda you are the greatest woman companion. Blessings!
I grow that type of Japanese sweet potato, it has lots of vines and long potatoes. You may never have to replant them again, cause next year they'll still come up.
Loved watching you dig and interact. So loved the cattle calling and feeding of those healthy 'fat' contented babies. My ex and I drove a round from California to Florida once a week from 74-75 and I so miss the gentle straight talk of you wonderful southern folk. I always thought one day I would get to move back there, but it wasn't to be. Thank you for sharing your common sense and encouragement.
This is wonderful! Thank you for joining in on the collaboration. I wonder if the white slips that I got from you and planted here will come out pink and white skinned too. We will see in about a month... 🤗😍 Conversation is better in the garden, especially if you have someone to talk too. The work is also less intensive if it is shared.
Thanks Wanda and Danny. That is a most amazing surprise. I'm looking forward to your taste test. I'm sure you will shoot a video of it. lol. Maybe it will be a new variety that will stand up to the changes that are happening to our climate. I know you will be planting some next year to see how they do. Much Love
I never knew sweet potatoes could be white. I think we call them yams here in new england. It's a sweet white potato. Ps baby cows are by far the cutest baby mammal.
Yaay!!! Lots of sweet potatoes! I like those wht 1’s too! That’s GOT to be so nice having someone to garden with!!! 1 of the 1st things i ever grew was Jiffy Pop popcorn (about 1976) bcz i loved it, & it did real good & I popped it outdoors over a fire....i was so happy! We used fish guts in our garden along with all the compost stuff....we didn’t have animals bcz we fished everyday & had plenty basically free food...God has us in all this bcz we made Him our Habitation🌾🌾
So happy that God covered you guys, No Hurricane... Do you ever eat the leaves of the sweet potatoes in the passed, I know you give them to your animal now...
It will be interesting to see if you plant just a white one next from your seed potatoes if they do the same thing and if you plant them somewhere else if they will just ran to their own color or if they will always be part pink and part white. Maybe it was the different nutrients in the sandy soil since you planted them in this place for the first time. Will they taste different or will the different colors store differently? Gardening is always an adventure!
Very interesting potato dig. That’s my favorite thing to harvest - potatoes. Just something wonderful about digging in the dirt. I’m glad you have each other to enjoy your homestead. It makes the time go nicely and you both can feeling the joy of what you’ve planted and now harvesting, ❤️❤️❤️
Cows love sweet potatoes and vines , we use to turn cows or hogs into sweet potato patch after we got most of them out. My dad always planted two or three acres of them , We sell and give away , feed them . Good looking harvest
Ha! ha !! always a surprise at your place. that was kind of fun watching this trying to guess which color you was going to dig up next. You guys have a wonderful weekend. Stay safe❤🌻
I would venture to guess that either they were a hybrid and are reverting to the original varieties or you had them planted too close to the red ones last year and you had some cross-pollination.
We are also approaching our sweet potato harvest season! We are growing a few raised beds, some large containers and a couple hay bales. You've consistently had massive harvests and we share in the reward by watching your success. We enjoyed the cow call and seeing them respond. It is also our dream to eventually have a homestead with our very own animals. For now we are growing as much as we can in our Urban Back Yarden. Thanks for sharing!
That's awesome! Hopefully I will get a good harvest too! My 1st year planting sweet potatoes, can't wait to see! 👍 I'm so glad the worst of the storm missed ya'll🙏❤
Danny & Wanda, you are fortunate to have found each other. I'm happy for you that you can work together and enjoy that in your garden. I sure do miss my husband. He was alone at home for 16 years while I was still working, and now it's my turn to be alone while I'm retired. I kept working for the insurance, which was secondary to his Medicare. It's a good thing we had that, too, because along with visiting his GP, we also had to visit his cardiologist, pulmonologist, and kidney specialist. He also had eye and foot surgeries and got new dentures. Boy! All that adds up! His first pacemaker was $25k, and five years later the second one cost $35k. We were very grateful for the insurance my job provided. It's been nine years that I'm without him now. It sure will be nice to see him again. (John 5:28)
Those are crazy, pink and white on the same plant! Is there a flavor difference between the white and red? Is there a nutrition difference between white and red? If you would like to ship some potatoes for dmsale I'll take a few. Much love from So.Cal.💟
That was fun👍🏻 I love watching harvesting videos especially potato or sweet potatoes, everyone is so excited when they dig them up, it’s like finding hidden treasure. I was watching an elderly man from the UK digging potatoes he was like a little kid when he dumped his bucket and saw all of the potatoes. I can’t believe that you haven’t gotten any rain from Laura, I’m in Michigan and as my father would say it’s raining pitchforks and hammer handles and they say it’s because of the hurricane, we can use the rain it’s been dry up here. This year our Governor locked down our state and said Greenhouses and Nursery’s were not “essential”, because of that Kites 🪁 Greenhouse had an abundance of veggies plants and flowers left over because people thought it was too late to plant, so they gave tables full away to whom ever wanted them, no limits on how many you could take, my husband loaded the car three times and gave some to our two children and we planted some too, the plants looked like they were next to dead but we planted them anyway, well God wants life to go on, the plants have been producing like crazy! I just picked my first free eggplant, it’s beautiful! We have been picking free cucumbers for several weeks we have thirty free cabbage plants with softball size cabbages on them, we have an acorn squash that is about the size of a softball and other squash are producing, all from free plants that we planted too late in the year! It’s like a miracle! We pray over all of our plants and God has done the rest, don’t ever be afraid to plant anything because it’s to late in the year, just plant it and pray for a harvest, I had to tell you because so many people worry that it’s too late to plant or the plant looks dead, just plant it and pray! Love to you, Cindy
I’m sorry your governor has been the way she has been....sounds like u have alot to harvest soon! I pray over my plants too🙏🏼😄I decided to plant hubbard squash (kinda late, but I’m in south AL,) & I have babies on there & it’s the 1st time I’ve ever grown this type, but i love it like i do acorn & butternut! Never know what the weathers gonna do, so i just planted & prayed like u do! Haha 😂
bobbi jo Michigan’s Governor is a piece of work she likes to threaten us, hopefully the petition to recall her will have enough signatures to remove her. Sounds like your garden is doing well I’m happy to read that you pray over your garden too.
Cindy Bonem ....Yes Lord make it happen! Recall the wicked Lord. They “really are” supposed to be working for us....I’m sure she gets a paycheck. God bless u🕊
Its fun watching the two of you dig in and reap your harvest; I just wish I was sharing your table when they're cooked up! Thanks for sharing with us. : )
So relieved to see that you were spared the destructive forces of the hurricane. I am always amazed by the amount of work that both of you put into the gardens (and greenhouses) and the processing of all the produce, it is truly staggering. I am sure that a large number of people were praying for you and your fellow countrymen as it seems to be a succession of challenges aimed at the US at the moment. In a couple of years, when you open one of those jars of unusually coloured sweet potatoes, it will certainly remind you of the season that 2019/ 2020 was, a time when you achieved so much on the Homestead while so much was happening and changing in the world around you - unusual potatoes for unusual times. Great video, thank you, both.
