  • A video recording made in Norwich Norfolk UK in 1988. This recording was for a collage project on redevelopment that a friend needed to complete. I've put this up for interest in how Norwich has changed. Please note the quality of video is poor quality as the camera was of 1983 vintage.

When I see these kind of videos it makes me wonder how many of the people in them are still with us 😌

Have lived in Norwich all my life and will never leave here despite all the changes, it's still a great place to live. 😂

I grew up in Norwich in the Unthank Road area in the 70s and 80s. Really enjoyed seeing how it was.

Born and bred in Norwich and still live here. I was 20 when this video was filmed, weird to see cars driving down St Stephens and Castle meadow.. Great to see how thing used to look back in the 80s, no one with their face buried in a mobile phone too.

Even the opening shot of St. Stephen's Street - the commercial street with all the department stores / chain shops - portrays just how aesthetically raw, concrete, 'clinical' and 'dirty' it was and still is in Norwich. That's what I love about it; no frills, just a simple, humble city full of great shops and facilities, and better still full of culture / diversity, and really down-to-earth, friendly, tolerant and unpretentious ! And yes I was born & bred here.

Thankyou for this trip down memory lane. I'm currently living in Australia, but Norwich is my home and always will be. I will be returning to live in Norwich permanently in the not too distant future, and can't wait to see my beautiful city again. I know it has changed over the years but I want to walk down Elm Hill again and visit the Castle museum and just enjoy being part of it. I can't wait to get back and finally be home where I belong. I LOVE NORWICH! Thanks again😁

My Dad had a Ferguson Videostar at this time. He worked in Norwich, Chapelfield. I can agree it was a heavy on the shoukder piece of kit! We were extremely privelged to have a 'video recorder'!

You captured a slice of history here mate. Different place now, but still home.

The old hospital, nestle factory and the malthouse car park with that bomb sculpture on top.

My home city. Some of the more modern buildings now sadly gone such as the Norfolk & Norwich tower blocks, the Malthouse car park and a few others. Norwich has always been a combination of raw and industrial and quaint and historic.

Remembers Tony the Cityline minibus driver who used to give us alternative teens a free ride on his bus. Many years later he became my next door neighbour.

For me, this ring road at the beginning IS Central Norwich ! It has everything; abundance of shops, raw concrete blocks, period building remains, and a dose of greenery to revitalize it ! Perfection of the urban landscape !

A fine City with so many childhood memories, I still miss Norwich even though we moved in 1997.

Some good shots there, including the angel! The amount of change that's happened is truly amazing.
