Insanity is NO longer an excuse for anyone. Stop using that insanity loop hole
Agreed. It's too easily abused to mitigate punishment and even if someone is insane that's not normally an excuse for their actions. They should still face consequences.
Insanity just means someone goes to a mental institution until they are fit to stand trial....
It hardly ever works in court decisions even if we hear about it as a defense often.
It is full blown demonic activity.
I only saw insanity in the government officials by ignoring the problem of homelessness and poverty in the country.
Forget the bystanders, how about the police who just walked by her?
She was already on fire. The damage was done by time they walked by. The passengers could have prevented or stopped this situation. But New York punishes good citizens.
If you look he mentioned it on his walkie talkie. What do you expect him to do?! Put it out with his flammable polyester jacket?

He omitted that intentionally. Immediately tells me he’s anti deportation.
What would you expect? It is the news media way of controlling their narrative.
I know right! ICE gave a detainer saying they can take this guy even if he is sentenced and deport him what makes ICE think this guy won't come back he did already ICE deported him then he came back.
But yet this isn’t considered a terrorist attack like Luigi’s case
Apparently it only qualifies as terrorism if the ultra-wealthy feel threatened as a collective. It would be rare, if ever, to encounter a person of substantial wealth sleeping on public transit, so the attack, despite being extremely violent and inhumane, did not incite terror amongst the "right" demographic.
Terrorist = political statement. There was no statement here
It's because Luigi is an American citizen and not an illegal alien
A terrorist attack targets civilians with an ideological motivation. This was murder because it was not for an ideological cause.
Because it's not.
The biggest evil is allowing this to continue happening.
Cant wait for Trump. We're taking our country back.
"WE THE PEOPLE" allowed this to happen! We were so concerned with being politically correct and made way for the "Gaza" protestors to disrupt our everyday lives, yet none of us protested to have Biden shut down the border even after a second or third of one of our citizens died at the hands of foreign invaders.
Furthermore, we're quick to pull out our cellphones at the drop of a hat to record others being victimized by thugs in our subways, but how many of us are ready to defend a fellow citizen; or applaud one who does, rather than call them vigilantes?! Those who stand idly by when someone is being victimized are no better than the perpetrator. May The Almighty help me, because I refuse to stand idle any longer!!!

@tarikviaer-mcclymont5762 that is the dumbest comment I've read.
No one helped her, no one took their jacket to try to smother the flames. Everyone just stood there watching.
Anyone with some common sense would know that if you take a jacket or something like it and cover the lady, so the flames died out, she could have lived.
But no, no one did anything but watcher her, even the cops who are supposed to be first responders did nothing. That lady died when she shouldn't have.
And people standing right in front with their phones fillming! Honestly disgraceful

No-one wants to be another Chauvin and Penny.
Let's lay the blame on the monster .
You obviously don't live in New york City. One opens their mouth or get involved here you can pretty much assume someone will punch you or stick a knife in you or shove you infront of a train.

- My last few months there - a young lady crossed the street and almost got hit as she was on her phone (and walked against the light)
After Mr Penny was arrested for murder no one is willing to help anyone anymore for fear of being arrested. NYC is backwards. Squatters get the house and the homeowners get arrested. A robber shoots at a store owner and the store owner shoots back in self defense and the store owner is arrested.
Probably nothing the non law enforcement bystanders could do. If you don’t have a fire extinguisher or a blanket or some sort of way to put the fire out what could you do. I used to live in Manhattan when I was a stock broker. I hated EVERY minute of it. The honest citizens have no means of self protection, and if you pull a firearm on a thug, YOU are going to jail. Law abiding citizens are at the mercy of the criminals. Even if you live in a "nicer" neighborhood like I did, the criminals travel to every part of the city. And that's because you care about others !!
Everyone in NYC has to ask themselves the same question before helping anyone: “is this worth my parents child or my children’s parent or my partners spouse going to prison? If I do what happens to them when I can’t be there to support them?”
It’s not about apathy. It’s about value judgements, and people value their own loved ones over strangers.

That's no excuse for anyone to stand around and not help a burning woman! Don't use the Penny case to excuse people for not helping this woman.
They are using this as an accuse. Black women in particular have been verbally and physically assaulted without anyone stepping in for decades…. Now that one is on fire people are using penny as an excuse.
Totally agree, most of the people using that excuse wouldn’t have done shit anyway. More likely to whip out their phones to record than try to assist her. No one is talking about subduing the guy, but helping an innocent who was on fire. Don’t use Penny as an excuse.
The woman was ON FIRE. Like fully enflamed. Most ppl don’t know what to do and to be honest, she was SO on fire that it could endanger whoever tried to help. And what were ppl gonna smother her with? I know this sounds awful but if someone took their coat off to smother, it would be ruined. A lot of ppl can’t afford to buy a new heavy duty winter coat. NY has freezing winters. I’m in Canada n just a couple hours from NY n a good coat costs at least $300. Im just saying, there could have been a lot of reasons ppl didn’t help. I’m sure this all happened fairly quickly too.. not a whole lot of time to do anything. AND cops were in scene. I would assume everyone thought the cops had it handled 🤷♀️
How can they overlook the Daniel Penny case? Alvin Bragg effectively destroyed most, if not all, motivation to follow the phrase commonly preached to the public: if you see something, say something (or do something). Your sentiment essentially tells people, "you're damned if you do, you're damned if you don't." At least if you don't do anything you are not at risk of being branded a bigot and the perpetrator of a hate crime. People are more likely going to choose being branded as anonymous assholes because at least your identity is protected and your dignity is preserved. Daniel Penny is not an excuse, he is an example of how law enforcement can manipulate your genuinely good intentions into something nefarious.

This act could have been prevented quite possibly. The death of the victim DEFINITELY could have been prevented and harm could have been reduced if bystanders reacted.
There is no excuse for the lack of action.
Remember Daniel Penny?
Bystanders should never intervene…that’s how you get killed, hurt or charged with a crime…you have to look out for yourself…
💯💯💯
When the DA is eager to file criminal charges against bystanders when they intervene and then put them on trial that could result in a lengthy prison sentence, that "if" is going to have an extremely decreased likelihood of becoming a "when." Being a Good Samaritan apparently comes with a high probability of being labeled as the perpetrator, and depending on the individuals involved, a bigot.

I just commented something very similar!! Exactly!! Why would anyone help when less than a month ago Alvin Bragg was trying to imprison Daniel Penny for protecting people on the subway!!
Wow, that's an extremely bad comparison. This poor woman was on fire. I think not helping her is inhumane.
🎯
In NYC, when bystanders step up to help, suddenly they become the suspect and the initial aggressor transforms from criminal into victim, perpetrator to martyr, a trouble-maker to a completely innocent defenseless example of how we, society, failed to protect the less fortunate. When bystanders step up to protect one another some interest groups hear that dogwhistle and without any cause scream "discrimination!" and label it a hate crime.
DA Alvin Bragg effectively made the endangered population of Good Samaritans completely extinct. The likelihood of a Good Samaritan sighting in NYC is now going to be as likely as a sighting of a dodo bird or a dinosaur. Well done, Alvin Bragg!
daniel penny was found not guilty
why are there no fire extinguishers on subways??
There are, but if a civilian tries to intervene in a conflict on the subway, there is a high chance they could get criminally charged by the district attorney and branded as a bigot or predator by interest groups. Not many individuals want to take that risk, so they now leave it up to authorities to sort it out. Bystanders do not get any grace or protected liability.

1964 people didn't wanna get involved for fear of getting in harm's way. It's 2024 and not only is that possible, but the DA is going to charge you with a crime too. So yes there is a Daniel Penny effect that is unique to this time.
@@christopher3790 Wrong! I saw an influencer interviewing people on the street about the Penny case and they pretty much could care less. I have lived in NYC and ridden the subway all hours of the day and night, the majority ignore and flee such events. You have maybe max. two people of every train who would get involved. That Penny case had no weapons, the guy threatened (I guess) but did not swing on anybody, so it was pretty easy to subdue the guy causing problems. That was an easy chokehold when the person applying it was taller than the person being choked. There is no comparison to someone burning someone verses the Penny case, where no weapon was displayed.
@@SeekerNJWC I am glad that you remember the Kitty Genevese case. It was really pushed back in the 70s.
That Mayor is a disaster. Where is his outrage about this crime?
The bystanders are accountable to
Absolutely !!!
To live in a shelter u need an id so how didnt he get flagged for being a deportee ?
Daniel Penny tried to save people and his life was destroyed.
Wow so dramatic! He's free now !🙄
@@soniap9612 Even though he's free, his life will never be the same!
I agree with you all. This is the reason why so many people are leaving New York and moving. The New York City subway have been infested by homelessness and people seeking to destroy people lives because they are beyond mental health. I am a born and raised New Yorker, they need to focus more on what brings the money into New York and that is the New York City subways. If we do not feel safe riding the subways, who’s going to make it to work to keep businesses going, work like slaves and can’t even feel safe on the subways. Instead of Only enforcing police above on the streets they need to enforce more police and security cameras on the subways, provide the transit driver with equipment and to also be properly trained for this new generation and not live in the ice ages. Life is advancing it’s time for the subway system to advance too and protect my State New York
Why would bystanders do anything? when the last guy to help the public by chocking a guy was tried for murder and a racist. What a joke that state is.
What an insult to say he’s insane. Why is it so hard to believe that some people are just diabolical and evil.
When will identity of victim released???
Amelia Carter, I’ve seen reports of her being 20 years old and some of her being 29. Obviously either way it’s a heinous crime 😔
@rileyluther8083 False. That was an AI generated image. The victim, unfortunately, has not been identified yet.
No one expects an atrocity like this. People aren't carrying blankets or fire extinguishers on them. Most witnesses were probably too stunned to respond in time.
We know why the victim's name and face aren't shown on the media.
?
White?
Amelia Carter RIP
Because there is no victim,
crisis acting video and 'event'...
That only comes if the victim is of a certain tax bracket or protected racial/religious group. If the victim cannot be used for political fodder or to incite public outrage, their identity is inconsequential, apparently.
So now he will spend time in jail being fed clothed medical treatment and more. Wonderful punishment for a horrific crime. Shame on people who didnt help her.
1. New Yorkers don’t care probably the rudest oblivious people in the world
2. Whose going into a fire to catch themselves on fire
3. Do u see migrants homeless violence in the subway is on the rise the quality of life in New York is so low for high taxes high rent ✌️
Why would anyone try to stop this?
_We all saw what happened to that marine a few weeks ago._
Hopefully justice will be served
After the manner in which the State rewarded Daniel Penny for saving the people on the Subway...Few will intercede at this point.
What many people don’t know or seem to understand is that she wasn’t just standing there, passively allowing herself to burn *(re. the comments of “Stop, Drop and Roll”)* as she would have been unable to move due to the fire causing all the soft tissues to contract, which in turn causes the skin to tear and the fat and muscles to shrink from the heat. As the muscles contract from burning, this in turn causes the joints to flex. As a result, burned bodies are often contorted into what’s known as a “Pugilistic Pose” (similar to a Boxing stance). She was most likely reaching for a pole to steady herself upon standing up, and by that point it was already too late. I suspect an accelerant like lighter fuel or some such was splashed over her prior to being set alight, as while clothing etc can indeed catch alight, it’s not as easily flammable as when an accelerant is introduced. She would have instinctively tried to pat herself out, but may have inadvertently helped spread the fuel and possibly stepped in any flammable liquid that had spilled upon the floor of the carriage upon standing up. Basically speaking, I suspect that she didn’t have a chance. 😢
Also, the reason she didn’t make much noise - let alone scream for an extended period of time is due to smoke and fire inhalation, swiftly constricting her oesophageal tract and lungs, thus blocking her airway. Her body would have been overwhelmed with shock and rapidly cascading systemic failure as her nerves burned.
There are some truly awful ways to die. This is without a shadow of doubt right up there near the top.
I hope this Woman’s memory is at the very least honoured with the justice she deserves. RiP.
You people condemned Daniel Penny and promoted buffoonery that lead to this. The media kills.
This is happening in every big city with ppl who have issues that are causing problems!!!!!! And ppl have the nerve to be mad at Trump for wanting to send these ppl back.
I dont know about New York. But in England there are fire Extinguishers everywhere on our trains, could of put the flames out in seconds
