First time seeing Pauline falling on her skill.She's normally very precise at that most of the time
It just proves how much of a razor’s edge they walk- on beam especially.
The video of the fall was from 2018. And she submitted the skill successfully in 2021 or 2022 I believe. Never knew she was attempting to submit it years before.

@@gabrielfreitas1263 I am talking about the time when it became official skill under her name. I saw a video in 21/22 representing it as a new official skill, but not sure if I remember correctly.
@@demonsalwayswinshe definitely did it at 2017 montreal worlds and that’s an FIG comp so it would’ve been recognized. i’m also fairly sure it was still named the schaefer back then but maybe she didn’t submit it for a while.

@@cc_ysd derp. Sorry. For some reason I recall people fearing it was going to affect her ability to make the Atlanta Olympics. regardless. My entire body clenches every time I remember that horrifying fall.
Came here to comment this!! Most of these falls in this video weren’t even scary, just normal everyday falls you’d see in practice
They thought she’d never walk again for awhile after the fall, so yeah the ‘96 Olympics were on the line. But she had enough time to recover and make a come back in time for the games.

It shows how brave these athletes are and how resilient, none are seriously injured and carry on with routines if they can
Sometimes you’re going to fall in life you just have to get back up. I’m so glad they’re all ok!!! Their front tuck saves that some of them did were incredible!

Had the first gymnast, the one at 1:12, and the one at 3:04 landed on almost straight legs. Aside from being a hard shock to the knees and back, had each of them softened their knees more, they may have been able to save their landings.
those really bouncy floors cause problems for gymnasts that train on harder spring floors. it’s super difficult to stick something on a bouncy floor if you’re not used to absorbing it.

While falling like this must be scary as all hell, it was easier than watching instances where people go down injured and you can tell it’s bad even before they’re done with whatever movement was happening. Soccer players clearly ripping muscles and tendons makes me feel a little sick.

Leave it to Nastia to make a scary fall look like art! (1st girl) That roll out probably would have been disastrous without it. It's one of the rare times that you saw her father perplexed as to whether to help spot her or let her alone.
We didn't see her face plant off the uneven bars, where she's laying face down and lifts her foot up and down. Not to laugh because it's terrible that she fell, and I'm sure it hurt, but it was kind of comedic with her foot after the fall.

Hard work, these gymnast make it look easy but it’s very hard work
Note the scariest by far. Almost all of these are just exactly what they’re done a million times before in training. Yeah sure they hurt, but nothing to really be seriously worried about them for. There’s been many much, much worse.

At the 1994 team Worlds Gina Gogean landed full force with her head on the beam. I was there, and I will never forget that awful bang. Fortunately she was okay, it’s a miracle

These falls happen every day in the gym. There are only a few of these that are truly scary. When a gymnast misses a block and is already going into the next skill.

sometimes they can get in the way and make the gymnast freak out more and cause them to hurt something. most of them are trained how to fall properly and this may sound weird but they way they're falling is exactly how your taught so they don't need to step in and help
Dude. Beam in Glasgow’s world championships was brutal. However….. These falls are not scary & the only two even remotely close are both of Nastia’s where she was severely under rotated in both. Tbh I’m glad her father changed his strategy and played to her strength of being a beautiful twister.
Maybe check older footage. Don’t post any of Sydney’s 2000 AA vaults where the horse wasn’t set to the appropriate height bc they got insanely lucky no one was gravely injured. But check EARLIER gymnastic footage (pre2000’s), esp with the vaulting horse & you’ll find some doozies. Safety in the sport has come a LONG way.

I have never known why those blokes (coaches) stand there during the asymmetric bars, they Never break the fall so what is the point!
Thing is they might minorly injure themselves but they know how to save a fault or fall and they know if they've messed up and can save themselves before they hit the ground they only really hurt their pride as they want to get it perfect they are professional athletes at the end of the day

3:20 isn't a fall, it's a timer in warm ups. It's not unusual to see a gymnast fall back to save themself from a full hard landing. You can even see when she gets up, she's going over the twists in the vault.
