10 Rare Metallica Songs Played LIVE - Vol. 1
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 23 апр 2018
- A collection of songs Metallica rarely ever performs live, in some cases just once in their whole career.
This is just Vol. 1, if you like this sort of video, I think I could put together a few more like this, let me know!
Notes:
"The Ecstasy of Gold" and "Suicide & Redemption" are taken from the Fan Can 6 (Live in Copenhagen, Denmark 2009) 2-DVD release.
"Sweet Amber" and "Some Kind of Monster" are taken from MetOnTour. Unfortunately those videos didn't show the entire performance, so I took the LiveMetallica soundboard audio releases for both songs and just put some slides over the missing video to make them complete.
"Mama Said" is taken from a swedish TV Broadcast of the 1996 Miss Sweden Contest. James' live performance was an entertainment act in the middle of the show.
"To Live Is To Die" and "Just a Bullet Away" are taken from MetClub exclusive videos from Metallica's 30-Year Anniversary shows at The Fillmore in 2011.
"Escape" is taken from the webcast of Metallica's first Orion Music + More festival in 2012 in Atlantic City, NJ, USA.
"Carpe Diem Baby" is taken from the MetOnTour videos of Metallica's second Orion Music + More festival in 2013 in Detroit, MI, USA.
"ManUNkind" is taken from a MetClub exclusive video of their show in Manchester, England on October 28th 2017.
Enjoy!

The newest songs don't count! As the album is still so new they will probably play all of them during its tour! FIXXXER has never been played live...only 21 years waiting in vain. They have played the first 90 seconds live in a rehearsal and fans went apeshit!!!!!
you are a hero
@Defensive Wounds Well the album has been out since 2016 and they only played this song twice, I think it qualifies as rarely played live. But you're right of course, there are enough older songs we're still waiting to hear!
Defensive Wounds I’m still waiting for “Prince Charming” definitely not holding my breath.
Thanks man 😉
To live is to die is the most beautiful song of Metallica.
its up there, right next to Ktulu...
@@jasonmgomez And Orion
To live is to die. The Best!
My favourite song of acillateM, forever.
Cliffs last gift post death.
James - Nordic Warrior
Rob - The Orc
Lars - The Sorcerer
Kirk - The High Elf
Kirk is the princess
Lars is the danish troll.
What?
Jason - The Acrobat
@@SUPERCLUBVIDEO
Disagree.
Jason is The Riddle Of Steel.
Fan Can 6 must be one of the best Metallica shows in 2000s. And I believe that To Live Is To Die deserves a second chance to be played live (and also third, fourth, and so on). Thanks for the quality compilation!
Andriy Vasylenko Ah nice to see the Major Ukrainian Rager in these comments.
Agreed on both accounts!
They played to live is to die in Switzerland 1993
And at the 30th anniversary show
And Seattle
Escape still one of the most underrated Metallica songs ever
Alan Mejia yeah really. I don’t get why they hate it so much
I agree I love it. Reminds me a little of Priest
Trapped under ice too
@@swedejohanson7739 I think James doesn’t like to sing it
@@swedejohanson7739 because they didn't want to write the story
If there was no video footage i could swear that Kirk is playing that solo at 3:12
Iron Hammer paskaa
Mielummi Jamesin sooloo kuuntelee ku Kirki 😃
No shit! James didn’t miss either! Didn’t know he had a little shred like that in him!
Bradley Huddleston listen to suicide and redemption
The non wah solo is his. He can shred just doesn’t want to. I mean he plays acoustic really good, plays electric tight, never fucks up during their harmonies, He’s probably better than Kirk but doesn’t want to embarrass him.
@@H.E.M. Does he also prefer to stick to rhythm guitar instead of lead?
Man i really hope they play *FIXXXER* someday it's pretty underrated
Have they ever played that song live? It is a pretty remarkable song really.
Uhmm i think they never played the song live (sadly)
It's my theory that the lyrics are too personal for James. His mom died because his dad was very Christian and wouldnt seek medical help for her cancer. Hence "what fathers done"
Cause dolls of voodoo are all stuck with pins!
and what about prince fuckin charming
Can you imagine being a band so big, there are song you record and put on major album releases you've never played live? Crazy stuff.
I mean they can, just switch their overplayed songs like master and sandman.
HEM, they could do that, but some of those songs were the songs that got fans into enjoying the band. That would be like the Rolling Stones not playing Satisfaction or Pearl Jam not playing Alive or Jeremy.
smithers311 because they are absolute shit🤩
@@craigcampbell7861 wow. Must be new or under informed. Or just have shit taste in music
Why imagine if its Metallica? 💁🏻♂️
The interlude in Suicide & Redemption is so beautiful
Miselfis Thanks
We need the Ecstasy of Gold at every show played like that.
I was just wondering why they haven't done it more
@@deangelobayley7079 well it's their entrance music, so kind of hard for them to play themselves on to stage lol. Does sound awesome as a rock version though
Does anyone realize that Trujillo is MetallicA's longest running bassist? Cliff (83-86) Newsted (86-2000) Trujillo (2003- 2018)
86 through 2000 is long
That's true... But he falls in a relatively quiet Metallica production period, in 15 years he's seen only two official album releases... Jason on the other hand fell in one of metallica's busiest/ most creative periods ever, carrying the incredible responsibility of replacing Cliff
Because he’s humble as hell
MetallicA AlabamA yeah but they only made 2 albums with him. They made way more with Jason and Cliff
I sat like five rows back at OZZFEST 2000 01 when Rob was with Ozzy. He fuckin rocked then as he does now. Rob has a low, thick bass sound that only adds to the treble of Kirk and rythym of James. He thickened Zack Wylde and made a three piece band complete.Like Rex from Pantera. Great bass is a underrated, integeral essence of great music. This all coming from a git fiddler. Love you Rob Trujillo! See ya'all in Sept at the chase center for S&M2. Wear ur best suit/tux. Our parents will be watching, wherever they may be,living and otherwise. Not to mention the children finding out where mommy and daddy went on SEPT 6. MetallicA fan to the north. D.S.
James rocking that Wah-Wah.. !!
God damn, i love Load and ReLoad... Simple, heavy, deep, Magical! Way too underrated
Agree 100%
They are awesone albums.
released by LITERALLY ANYBODY ELSE, those albums are career makers. Released by Metallica, they are career stoppers...
Deep? Lmao reload is fuckin shit
Well, I'm not someone who hates those albums, but at least a third of those albums are pretty mediocre tracks. - I've always said that they could've made ONE GREAT album out of the best tracks on those two, even though apparently they wanted to make that a double album or something. - But I also love the groove and depth on those albums. It's just a lot more matured song-writing, give for some "filler" tracks. - And even if you don't agree that there are any filler tracks, they've admitted it themselves about needing to "wing" a lot of the songs because they couldn't come up with enough. - BUT, indeed there are a bunch of gems on them that people just overlook or dismiss. 'Outlaw Torn', which hasn't been played a lot, and probably known best because of 'S&M' (which is how I learned to love it), is just a great piece of work. - 'King Nothing' for example, which HAS been played a lot, is just applicable to a lot of things in life. Like these years how people are on RUclips and Social Media...
They seriously need to do more Load era tracks. Instrumentally they sound great and they suit James' voice perfectly given how much gruff and wear he has now. His voice is really showing its age on some of the thrashier numbers.
there's a reason these tracks are "rare" no one cares about literally ANyTHING after The Black Album.
@@shopofdoom The Outlaw Torn on the S&M records got a mighty big applause.
As always, Rob didn't missed a single note 🤘
Where is Enter Sandman?
Marc Damian hahahaha
Marc Damian i wish they played that song more often
Marc Damian Or sad but true. I never hear that.
Luke Bargowski Exactly, some more stuff that is not in almost every gigs
and master of pupets
14:14 - hearing To Live Is To Die live was a real treat for me. I've loved Cliff Burton from DAY ONE learning bass and guitar - Robert and James rocking out together, at the end, was EPIC for me to see. There are no more words.
One of the greatest moments of my life was hearing the intro To Live is to Die and knowing I was one of 500 or so to hear the full song being played for the one and only time. Truly blessed to see all 4 nights.
I wish they played Mama Said again.. Such an amazing song with good lyrics. One of my favorite Metallica songs!
Rick Grimes S5 Load and ReLoad are pure underrated gold IMO
I would love to see them play sweet amber again. that song is underated and is a killer track off of st anger.
i dont know why they dont play sweet amber and minus human ..
Unnamed feeling and invisible kid...so cool and they are putting on the sides...😢😢😢
I don't even remember that one. I saw the title and thought "is that a cover?" Lol. St. Anger is underrated. It was much too long, and at the time I didn't like it but I appreciate it now much more.
Can't believe that "Escape" was only played once by them live.
Fixxxer has never been played live and it is a killer of a song! Sorry to say, but Escape/Trapped Under Ice are just filler songs, good fillers but fillers none the less...
Alexey Boytsev me too mate. When was on the road for ride or master tours they didn't played? Weird.
Defensive Wounds dude i agree for fixxxer but escape & trapped under ice just fillers ? I don't think so man...
Trapped Under Ice is in no way filler, but Escape was a rushed song because they needed one more to fit the bill
Alexey Boytsev james hates that song hence why it never gets played!
Man you could really tell how much James liked playing Suicide & Redemption!
Sweet Amber sounds great this live version 🤟🎸way better than the studio version.
The drums 🥁 sounds great
I love how in the beginning of Ecstasy of Gold Lars is just standing there awkwardly.
A collection of songs Metallica rarely ever performs live, in some cases even just once in their whole career. This is just Vol. 1, if you like this sort of video, I think I could put together a few more like this, let me know!
Triple M yes that would be awesome! There's got to be countless songs Metallica have rarely played live
absolutely! these are cool
Triple M yeah mate. Make vol.2 and vol.3 if you have extra rare songs.
Triple M this is some good shit!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Make a second one! (put orion in it) :)
I cannot die peacefully until they play bad seed
ruclips.net/video/cJdS_flrrok/видео.html This will do for now.
Andrés Correal and James coughing at the beginning
Bad seed is so catchy
All ive ever seen is the snippet in the cunning stunts vhs opener
They should play all 4 of their instrumentals more often. They're all great songs.
3:17 Holy shit James!!!
David Garcia kirk is guilty, he infected James the shit wah pedal, FUUUUUCK!!!!!
iodinesoul no doubt, james is better ( lead guitar) than Kirk.
Carlos 73 well that's false
Christian Whitmore what is false, that JAMES is more talented than KIRK's mediocre, even making solos?
Carlos 73 james is a tighter guitarist and hes better at rhythm. But kirk can shred better than james
that live rendition of Ecstasy of Gold is sick!
I love Escape! I'd prefer Escape and Eye of the Beholder over Sandman and Nothing else matters ANY DAY!
Yep
Most def
Meh, and this is coming from someone who fuckin' LOVES Escape.
@@404TVfr you’re crazy
100
Escape is the most underrated song. It deserves more attention and never understood why they dont play it
Ecstasy of gold-I love when James plays lead..wish he did more often 🤘🏻🤙🏻
This version is amazing! I metal version of The Ecstasy of Gold kick ass!
Mama Said NEEDS to be played more
This. Love that song. Wish they'd play it every once in a while.
I love Hetfield’s solo acoustic style. I don’t think they’d do it given previous backlash, but they/he could do a whole album like this and it would be great.
The *ONLY* song I want to hear live from beginning to the END is *FIXXXER!!!!!!!!* NEVER, EVER, been played live in one take............only 21 years since the album it was released... this song is equal to *The Outlaw Torn, Bleeding Me, The Call of Ktulu* and *Orion* to me!!!
The Outlaw Torn e Fixxxer, the two gems from Load and Reload! Absolutely amazing and underrated songs!
Defensive Wounds I thought I was the only one that wanted to hear fixxxer live...
great comment !
Ain't you afraid of being bored to death ? lol
Searched for fixxxer, found nothing
How could Hetfield hate Escape??? It's fucking amazing and that air raid siren at the end just send chills every time I hear it.
Because they were forced to make Escape, It should've been a radio hit or something like that. That's why James hates it.
I know but it's an awesome song.
Never said it wasn't, But I do understand why James doesn't like the song.
He's allowed to hate the song, chill.
Definitely the worst from the album, but not that bad.
I love escape really helped me in some difficult times 🤘🤘🤘
I agree.
That song is awesome! I don’t know why James hates it so much 😭
Because it's the only song they ever technically "sold out" with. They didn't want to write that song but were basically convinced to in order to get radio play.
Kyle Fisher Oh how the tables have turned
Song for those hard times indeed!
carpe diem, really love that song
Ramses Bruy perez me too
every time i see the words Carpe Diem, my brain immediately screams BAAABBBBYYYYYYYYY!
Never understood why they didn't play Sweet Amber more. Take out the awful drum sound on the album and it's just fine.
Lars would fuck up the drum part anyway
So many gems on that album. And Some Kind of Monster sounded really good as well.
The drum sounds on 'St. Anger' are great. - The entire album is just too "boxy" sounding and needs a remaster for the overall sound and dynamics.
People who think something like the "Hardwired" album sounds BETTER are... downright wrong/deaf. XD
And the reason they don't play 'Sweet Amber' or most of those songs is because they either don't enjoy it or they think it's not what the audience wants to hear. They're STILL obligated to play what's on the album whatever they're touring for AND the hits. So something like 'Sweet Amber' is going to get bumped down to lower priority really fast.
Another factor is "difficulty". And I'm not talking about technical difficulty, but a lot of the 'St. Anger' songs are really intense to play. A lot of fast strumming and just a lot of repeats. It doesn't help that Lars can't help himself wanting to play things faster all the time. The 'St. Anger' tracks are actually quite a bit more "groovy", which allows for the way the guitars are played as well, but make that a little too fast and it's becomes a strenuous workout. - This is not something they would admit, but I bet James knows that Lars would speed things up and he's sooner like "Nah, I'm good." than that he's up for it. - Believe it or not, they didn't even want to play '...And Justice For All' on ITS tour because it was too long, which was even back when they were way younger and angrier. It seems they tend to write and record stuff they can't handle themselves live.
I like it. Like you said that stupid drum sound out of that album and its suddenly very good.
I think that sweet amber is the only song on st anger that needs better drums. The rest of the album is very good with the snare, as it is fitting for what the album is trying to do. Sweet Amber is a song that could have easily been on Justice with a little more work.
Carpe DIem Baby is one of my favorite Metallica songs
Mama said is such a beautiful song
17:45 one of the greatest musical moments in Metallica's catalogue.
Definitely could tell they were out of their comfort zone.
Need to hear Sweet Amber and S&R played more often
Thank you very much!!! Amazing to hear "Escape" live.
So awesome to hear To Live Is to Die live. Shame Kirk couldn’t remember the main solo in the breakdown piece better, I love that on the album.
James hetfield shredding in ecstacy of gold.. my god !
James with a wah paddle. Priceless.
The Ecstasy of Gold: exists
My eyes: filled with tears instantly
Bleeding Me, love to hear that live.
Ricky Wilson My favorite song on Load along with Outlaw Torn.
its been played live multiple times
The ecstasy😍😍so glad i heard it.... IMO so underrated
When I saw them live in September in Minneapolis they played both Breadfan and No Leaf Clover. Both were songs i wasn't expecting, but were welcome surprises for a great show.
Holy shit, Sweet Amber was actually played live?
Well, they kinda tried to play it, anyway. :D
Gunslinger I can't believe mama said was played live. I actually like James performance of the song, but mama said isn't metallica at all
Sweet Amber is such an underrated song. Such a badass riff!
James forgot the lyrics too lol
I think that one and The Unnamed Feeling were the best songs from St Anger.
Same.
I was at the Manchester show where they played manUNkind, it was surprising to hear, but I think that it is a very underrated song which deserves to be played live more
Suicide and redemption is the coolest 🤘
I was just thinking how I'd like to hear some deeper cuts from Metallica's live stuff and this was the first video that popped up! Thanks for knowing exactly what I would be looking for on this random day, sir.
Ecstacy of gold was on fire.
Escape is a hell of a song. Damn hard to sing live, especially when you are not young((( Maybe that's why they didn't want to play it on stage, but James did a great job.
I saw them in 94. 2011, 2012, and 2019. Nothing compares to the vibe I got both from the people and the band at their first Orion Festival(the one where they played Escape as seen in this vid around 25 min mark).
It felt like a huge Party that Metallica was hosting instead of just another concert.
I searched for the cure live and ended up here, disappointed but not disappointed at the same time. Some kind of monster, eye of the beholder, load / reload tracks are way underrated.
Awesome!! What a treat! "To Live Is To Die live", "Just a Bullet Away" and "Suicide & Redemption" were my three favorites on this video. Thanks for posting!!
Escape sounds awesome live! Ride the Lighting was such a great album .
Escape was supposed to be a radio hit and not liked. I think of a man amongst an apocalypse. Its that bad ass. It just sounds so good.
I love that song!
One of the best METALLICA channels, well done sir
They should play fixxxer and frayed ends of sanity
They've already played frayed ends of sanity in 2014, during the by request tour. I dont remember where exactly, but it was in europe and it's on video on RUclips
@@dagogl1044 Helsinki!
Dagoberto Ignacio Garcés Lavado Everyone requested Enter Sandman and the usual songs! They should have a rare tour of underrated songs! That would be a rare gem
That entry at 1:28 gave me the chills
Nice. Thanks.
Good stuff! Need Vol 2!!
The way James’s voice cracks towards the end of Mama Said gets me every time
They hardly play Low Man’s Lyric, I fricken love that song
Omega Son exactly
It hasn't been played live since the Reload tour 20 years ago :/
Myase sikrialitey
Omega Son I saw them play it in 98
idk why but this makes me tear up a little
Lol. A army
Yes, this is such a great idea, please upload more of this awesome vídeos
"Are you sure about this?" lol of course James, these songs are so rare to see perform live that we wish they should play it more often.
Wooh mama said is awesome 😍 it should be played more often, james has a great voice
What’s more rare is seeing James playing solo type stuff and using the wha peddle lmao
DUDE.
Sweet Amber was played in my hometown.
Heard Carpe Diem and I Disappear in Roskilde 2013 was so awesome!
Why don't they play To Live Is To Die live?! it's sick.. these chills i'm gettin' man
56:41 just awesome...
I was at Manchester when they performed 'ManUNkind' - it was killer!
Pretty cool to see this all in one place!
One of Best Metallica Concert Ever 👍🏼😀🤘🏻
Best part this is seein James play some lead 🤘
Thanks for this!
Very enjoyable! Thank you for putting this together Triple M ;-)
Thank you so much for this.. I got such a good feeling from these. Feels like when I discovered Metallica, this made me feel good
since they are playing st anger and frantic so much nowadays, and these songs sound incredible with a good drum kit, and improv solos, they really need to do sweet amber again.
Sweet amber is such a badass song, the St. Anger album is soo slept on
No people just hate the drum sound and cowbell. When that's gone it's amazing. Way better than any other music at that time. Whatd they have? Lady gaga??
Great upload my friend
56:42 - best desktop wallpaper ever
Sweet Amber - Hell Yeah :D And I actually never expected Metallica to play Escape live ever :D Nice collection of rare material!
They were gonna have to play it eventually..unless they decided to totally ignore RTL's anniversary
I know it probably brings some feels he doesn't want to have while putting on a concert but Mama Said is one of the best things he ever wrote and I wish they'd play it every now and then. Such a great song.
To live is to die is awesome! I’m not crazy about the live version here but as a piece of music it’s just phenomenal. Great collection
Thanks again man!
Some Kind Of Monster sounds like Korn live. Which makes sense, because St. Anger was their Nu-Metal album.
Thanks for uploading. These are terrific. I already posted I'm one of a small group to hear SKoM in Fort Fun. I also heard 2x4 and Phantom Lord in Detroit on NYE2000 and the first time I saw them in 98 on the Reload tour they opened with Breadfan and played Low Man's Lyric and a real odd acoustic version of Motorbreath.
Cool clips, thanks for the uploading and i'm ready for more rare Metallica clips.
Vol. 2 is coming tomorrow!
Cool thanks man :)
AWESOME. JUST FUCKING AWESOME!
Good job mate. Bravo!!!👌👍
Absolutely blown away. All fantastic performances. Love metallica.
Wow carpe diem is a song I was already pretty meh on, but they rocked it live! Nicely done, gentlemen.
