K-Lou is a Bay Area Legend, I’ve listened to him growing up as a youngster, never really knew much about him but I’ve listened to his production for years! Much Respect to K-Lou and DregsOne
As a Richmond native I remember all these artist and locations K-Lou mentions Starlight Studios was world famous Michael Jackson and James Brown and many other huge stars worked on their music in that studio!Master P store on San Pablo ave. near Hilltop Mall! P and Silk used to hoop and run games at CC college against Brian Shaw Jason Kidd etc. in the CC college gymnasium they had hoop dreams before they blew up in music! K Lou been around and has a lot of history!
Dj Daryl lives out in Henderson Nevada now. He did a few beats for my artists in 2002 and brought us to the house of music and we sat in on a session with Tony tone Toni. Him a k-Lou some stand up dudes
DA SOUTH IS DA HUMBLE TRUTH!!! MISSISSIPPI MUD, BATTLE OF DA BANDS, STREET MUSICIANS, MEMPHIS JOOKIN, ETC.!!! & MOST NGGGZ IS 4M DA SOUTH THEW ANCESTRY!!! SO GIV IT UP 2DA SOURCE, DA SOUTH!!! PERIODT!!!
42:05 Hey. I designed the cover art for "Pimp-P Mack 🌎 The Total Package" and several other covers for Extra Records out of Vallejo, CA (1997/1998) Travlyrics Graphics was located inside Poorman Studios Richmond, California @ArtifactsByTravlyrics
K-Lou engineered a song for one of my artists in 2002. We brought a guitar player and after he heard him we all saw him plugging his wah wah guitar and he laced the track for free! One take and he filled in every gap and killed it. He ain’t lying about still being respected! Forever grateful for that experience. Great musician and more importantly a great man.
Its good to put the faces to the names now.we grow up listening to all these dope producers but don't know too much about em just that they make dope beats! K-Lou deserve his flowers 💯
K-Lou made some of the most memorable beats. He got a point saying producers need to do more than make the beat. The reason we got so much disposable music today.
K-Lou is the mane..I met him back in 1997 I use to go to his studio up there in Richmond much respect mane!!! My family from the NOLA alot of Louisiananians came from Louisiana to the Bay Area including my family.
Fantastic episode. This one was really educational for me as I learned much about the man behind a lot of the cuts I grew up with. That publishing bit was 💯💪
Mobb Music has a lot of layers, the only way you can peep true game is when you got a crazy sound system in a car and hear all the little details. The artist and beat always have crazy character and uniqueness that make it stands out.
Much respect to K-Lou, but I wanted to correct what he said about Too Short's production. Too Short produced "Born to Mack" album by himself. He did not start working with Al "BJ" Eaton until the next album, "Life is Too Short." So songs "Dope Fiend Beat" and "Freaky Tales" were produced exclusively by Too Short.
Good to see Ken get his flowers back when everyone was trying to go to Al Eaton or j jams studio Ken had richmond and v town his sound is the cleanest and poor man is right behind Ken and behind poor man is kaviarr
Got my gray hat on Friday bro, I was a vip and didn’t get an early release to it, didn’t get a discount either. No matter what I’m happy I could cop mine my guy. I met dude that owns mojo labs at carnival last weekend too

@48:46 P was lying his ass off or learned right then and there. P got rich by creating Big P Publishing where he took his artist's publishing. Yeah, he gave everybody a house and a car but if you were a top artist, like Snoop or Silkk, you were definitely missing out on some money.
Well, I think the Producer name should be called something else, like... Song Arranger‼️ Without a beat being made, you have nothing but a acapella. So if I came up with the entire track... drum pattern, melody, bass guitar, rhythm guitar, etc., I produce the beat. Now, if you told the artist what to say at a certain part of the song or where to put the chorus, etc., you are a SONG ARRANGER. You're not the producer. The name PRODUCER should only be the person or persons who came up with the entire music track, not the person who conducted the artist. Without a music track, you have no song. I can sell an instrumental album. You can't make or sell an acapella album, especially if music was never made to create those acapella vocals If Timbaland, Kanye West, DJ Quik, Dr. Dre or the Neptunes, those big name producers send a artist a track, and another guy is in the studio telling that artist where to come in and out of the song and help with words or how to say those words. You think that song will say Produced by... that guy who was in the studio? HELL NO‼️ It will say song produced by that big name Producer Dr.Dre, DJ Quik, etc. So if that person didn't make the music track, like P. Diddy never did, he should be called SONG ARRANGER, not PRODUCER Like when you read or see inside an R. Kelly album, it says... Written, Arranged and Produced by R.Kelly
