    TIME STAMPS:
3:35 - Time is taken to acknowledge the momentous occasion of having these three icons sitting at the table with us for a very special episode of People's Party. They go on to discuss Snoop's incredible contribution to the game, how all four members of the group elevate one another, a radio station that tried to create a rivalry between $hort and 40, and Mount Westmore's track, 'Free Game'. The group also makes a toast as 40 blesses us with his 'never above, never below' chant.
11:30 -- Cube speaks on all the game he learned from $hort, the independent hustle he pioneered, and their friendship going back to the days of both being openers for acts like Run-DMC. 40 talks about how much he gravitated to $hort's music coming up and $hort admits to being the oldest of the group but acting the youngest. Suave House Records founder Tony Draper is discussed, his legacy of creating the blueprint for independent success in the industry, and being the go-to for managing Mount Westmore.
23:39 -- $hort and 40 engage in a back-and-forth over the fun facts and 'did you knows' of hip hop history as well as shared birthdays, and what astrological sign reigns supreme. The group goes on to show love for Black Thought, discuss Cube's skills as an A&R, and touch on Snoop Dogg being one of the most recognizable faces in the universe and one of the best to pick up a mic. They speak on Snoop's generosity amongst his peers, and how powernaps have been Dogg's secret to productivity.
33:37 -- 40 is asked if he can do a translation of some select 40-Water lingo we've heard on his records over the years. They go on to explore the first time 'fosheezy' was ever mentioned in a song, if 40 takes issue with others using his terms, and how his slanguage has changed the game. They also discuss 40's lack of props from the East while topping the rap charts, the dynamic of the Bay's "emcees" versus "game spitters", and Talib details his trip cross-country to check out The Good Life Cafe.
43:11 -- The group is asked who would be worthy of a potential Mount Eastmore and Mount Southmore. The names of several legends in the game get passed around, and they discuss the importance of chemistry when forming a group aside from just iconic status, as well as dig into the history of the West Coast's underdog attitude that carried over into the group. They also explore the legacy of Cube's sophomore effort, 'Death Certificate' and what went into creating that masterpiece.
54:57 -- Rap's bad rap and the never-ending controversy over lyrics supposedly condoning violence is the topic of conversation. Cube states the importance of people's understanding the context of hip hop's origins, the communities that it birthed from, and the opportunities that the artform has created for so many. $hort goes on to talk about his conscious songs being spotlighted only due to their lack of explicit lyrics and things changing over the years with even more positive rap being fully available but having no industry support.
1:04:51 -- Mount Westmore's song, 'Tribal' is brought up and it's bringing the member's conscious sides into unison as they are asked about their evolution in writing and themes therewithin as they have matured. 40 gives his take on how crucial it is to recognize fact from fiction and how that line has been blurred with this current generation of artists. They discuss how so many youngsters in the game today don't live long enough to gain the wisdom needed to reach the fame they were destined for.
1:15:28 -- The production side of Mount Westmore is discussed as they get into the contributions from veterans of the game like Rick Rock as well as new-comers like Kato On The Track. They explore how Talib almost had the beat that 40 used for 'Yay Area' and 40 passing on the beat for $hort's 'Blow The Whistle'. They also get into the sci-fi themed music video for 'Big Subwoofer', the group making millions from the one single, as well as how touring has changed, with groupies getting turned down.
1:31:54 -- The group is asked if they can speak to their relationship with 2Pac and what he meant to the West Coast. 40 reflects on his history with Pac beginning after the two linked up through their mutual friend Richie Rich and speaks on witnessing Pac's impeccable work ethic first-hand during the recording of 'All Eyez On Me'. $hort goes on to talk about his "big brother" relationship with Pac and also goes into joing N.W.A. for their Straight Outta Compton tour and being by Cube's side when he broke away to go solo.
1:39:51 -- Cube talks about first getting to know Pac while he was part of Digital Underground and reflects on his eagerness at the time to make records of substance and his never-ending energy on tour. $hort speaks on Pac's ability at such a young age of having something meaningful to say every time he was handed a microphone and the group shows love for Boots Riley, Lil Jon, MC Breed and others. In closing the three are asked if they have any advice on growing old gracefully. They discuss the importance of staying true to oneself, the policy of giving more than you take, and living by the golden rule.

Real quick Too Short, I know you remember Sky Sushi that night I was with Champaign you was playing pool after me and her came off the Dance floor she was the baddest bitch in the building in a skin tight leopard skin. Really she was with my home girl Heather Hunter. She had me take her to the Dance floor so everybody could get a good look how fine she was and made me feel like a king when short was like "a player is she with you". Best night of my life it was like being my idols, idol. Snoop all I'm gonna say is Daniel and Orin you probably forgot about the best weed you ever smoked. Cube, your homie Quan Do the realest Gangsta I've ever seen, and I mean that. 40 top of the line fine wine Carlos Rosi in Chino California a neighbor was formed around that album that brought Crips and Bloods together from surrounding areas and created a peace amongst the blacks and forever infused my heart to my home Towne Northside Pomona Islands R.I.P Cecil 03/06/96. I feel like the best aspect of this interview is all of the rich game that E-40, Cube, and Short Dog are dropping. A lot of wisdom, a lot of game, a lot of friendship, and a whole lot of legendary dialogue - great episode maybe indeed the best from The People's Party. Thank you, Kweli.

    • @PrettyNicky50
      @PrettyNicky50 9 месяцев назад +1

Not necessarily a product of his environment because he made it out of that definitely but had pitfalls along the way from things seen an all he had to go thru...ppl were certainly haters of his mind an fed off that negative energy he tried hard getn away from...sad to say he trusted too many ppl who really didn't have his back are best interest at heart but didn't no how to perceive certain ones since he his self was not aware of the surroundings bein blocked by the glitz an glamour which he was sensing it, hence his sayn the media is full of dirty tricks but he should of been more aware....had he been around more positivity he would of made it hands dwn...😢

Talib really hit it on the head about us midwest artist, I'm speaking about Chicago, Gary specifically. We're in the middle so we filter everything on It's way across the country. Our roots r deep. We are all of yall....from everywhere

Thinking back, they had Coast Contra but that is 1 group of 4 whereas I'm thinking, as I'm everyone else that's up for the idea, is that you various people at once.
Russ, Mysonne and Hopsin having a chat about independence and advocacy could be amazing to me.
And maybe just have random groups like The Roots and Hieroglyphics together or new school and old school rappers together talking about stuff?
Lots of options, no royalties needed lol

tbh I think roundtable style conversations (gotta be with the right group like you said) make for the best podcasts or “interview shows” in general. A lot of platforms are missing out by focusing on the one-on-ones

To a point Talib had a point that execs should be held accountable but without the artist creating that “art”or “product” that ignorance and mindset doesn’t get spread. The fact that everyone is side stepping their end of the responsibility is a fact that they aren’t trying to endanger their livelihoods. Artist have a lot of power in their voices.
