I absolutely ADORE this film. I went in thinking, "Hey, this looks great from the trailers! This'll be a fun 2 hours," and came out of it with my mind blown. It surpassed my expectations in ways that I couldn't even imagine.
In the words of Walt Disney "I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing. That it was all started by a mouse." Walt would have been proud of this film.
I love how Disney can make brilliant and balanced arguments through their movies. Zootopia never points fingers at one group and screams to stop being racist pricks (the internet's approach). Instead, it asks everyone to be understanding toward everyone.
Fun fact: Zootpia is Disney's biggest animated hit and it doesn't feature a princess. That hasn't happen since The Lion King. And Disney has definitely made us forget the mistake they did for Chicken Little. Even though I don't think it's Disney's worst, but it could've been better. The first act was good, but at the second act (spoiler alert) when aliens came. That's when the film went downhill. To me, I think Zootopia is better than Frozen in terms of story and message. And I think it's on par with Inside Out. Let's hope Moana will become a hit as well and 2016 will be the year for Disney.
In other words, Chicken Little is an M Night Shyamalan film in which instead of being decent like Sign and The Visit, It's total crap like The Happening and The Last Airbender.
While I don't think Home on the Range is one of the worst animated movies out there. There are far worse, believe me. But, by Disney standards. It is the worse they probably ever made. The characters were poorly written, the plot is weak, and the animation wasn't great in Disney standards.
+JohnStripedfur i only hope we don't have a Lion King / Pocahontas scenario where succeeds and the fails. Moana looks great and i want it to succeed, especially after The Princess and the Frog incident.
+SuperKitaroShinX Home On the Range didn't kill off traditional animation; Disney's fear that they were "in the past" by using 2D was further justified by the fact that Home On the Range got bad reviews, when the reason that Home On the Range bombed was because it just sucked. Though you can make an argument it helped pull the plug on 2D, Home On the Range failed completely on its own, and 2D animation was simply an innocent victim.
When I first saw this trailer I thought it was going to suck, but this is one of the best animated movies I've seen from Disney in a long while. This is what Walt Disney envisioned.
LOL! I loved the Chicken Little "That doesn't exist" thing. Honestly, I was thinking that "This looks better then chicken little" going in. and it was aweseome IMO.
Wow Jedi Well, thing that went wrong with Chicken Little was Disney thought the way to make a CGI movie was to just use CGI instead of any actual story characters or likability.
+Josh Campbell I have many problems with "Chicken Little," but I can only say a few. The movie is very mean spirited, with many of the characters being antagonistic towards the main character, even his unlikable father, there are many pop-culture references that are out of place and annoying, almost like Disney was trying to copy Dreamworks Animation's tendencies (since DA was Disney's biggest rival in animation at the time, thanks to Jeffrey Katzenberg), and the animation is really weird and awful. Sorry if you like "Chicken Little," and I wasn't trying to offend anyone, but I seriously despise that movie.
That's the same thoughts I have with ''Chicken Little'' as well. That film is easily one of Disney's worst animated films. I can totally see why Disney forgets about that film to this day. They really only made it for the money and NOT for quality. This film really feels like a MASSIVE apology to ''Chicken Little'', even though Disney made a lot of excellent films before they made this. It really shows Disney put a lot of heart, hard work, and effort in making this film. I could see why critics loved the film so much(and ended up being Rotten Tomatoes' best reviewed WIDE release film of 2016) and why this film made more than a BILLION dollars in the box office. There were other films in 2016 that I really did love as well, like ''Arrival'', ''Moana''(which was also from Disney), ''Kubo and the Two Strings'', and ''Captain America: Civil War''(which made up my top 5 films of 2016, including ''Zootopia'')(and sorry to say this, but I didn't see ''La La Land'', which appeared in a lot of people's best films of 2016 lists, but I would love to watch that film some day), but none of them could match up to the standards that ''Zootopia'' set, even though they are all excellent films as well. ''Zootopia'', though, really set new standards on how to make an animated film, and it shows. Sure, there were other animated films that I saw in 2016(besides this film and the aforementioned ''Moana'' and ''Kubo and the Two Strings''), like ''Kung Fu Panda 3'', ''Finding Dory''(which would easily make it in my top 10 films of 2016), ''The Secret Life Of Pets'', and ''Sing''(which kind of felt like a knock off of ''Zootopia'')(and there was also ''Norm Of The North'', which I THANKFULLY DIDN'T SEE IN THEATERS, AND YOU KNOW WHY)(and there was also ''Ratchet and Clank'', which was a terrible film based of a video game series, but I also thankfully didn't see that film in theaters either), but none of them(with the exception of ''Finding Dory'', which is still an amazing film)(''Kung Fu Panda 3'' and ''The Secret Life Of Pets'' were good, but it still couldn't really match) could match the quality of ''Zootopia''(or the other 2 aforementioned animated films)in their quality. But the best part is that Disney is really on a roll. Great Job, Disney!!!!!
The film is INCREDIBLY mean spirited, making almost EVERYONE(ESPECIALLY BUCK CLUCK) instantly unlikable. The film is also WAY too fast for it's own good, none of the humor works, and even the animation(for Disney standards) is quite poor too. It was the first computer animated film that Disney made themselves(without Pixar's help, and no, "Dinosaur" doesn't really count. It was a Disney film, but it was animated by their now defunct visual effects division, Dream Quest Images.), and it REALLY shows. It was just Disney trying to cash in on the success of "Shrek", to AWFUL results. I'm glad that "Zootopia" fixed ALL OF THAT FILM'S PROBLEMS AND THEN SOME. And yes, 0:57 was HILARIOUS.
Zootopia is hands down The LEGO Movie of 2016, that one animated feature that surprised everyone by it's quality at the end. We just need to wait for Kubo in order to see who's really the best this year.
+Rob Bob I agree. It feels even better to watch a movie you expect little from and be blown away than it does to just see a movie that you expect greatness from (like Pixar's movies a few years until the recent loss of consistency)
Saw this movie on Saturday. This is one of their greatest movies made for sure I loved every second of it and it's analogies and metaphors are so incredibly accurate to the way we live now.
I honestly didn't like how the teasers presented zootopia, I got chicken little vibes for some reason (maybe because of the terrible pun or the way it made it seem like the anthro-trope was new) but when I saw it made 99% on rotten tomatoes I HAD to see it for myself. I am a real picky and hard to please person, and yet I literally saw this movie 3 times (which is something I've never done). This movie is literally my ultimate favorite.
Remember back in the early 90s, when people considered The Lion King Disney's side project, while Pocahontas was the big one? Looks like Zootopia and Moana might repeat history
+Josh Campbell Yeah, the studio assigned the "B-team" to The Lion King while the main animation team worked on Pocahontas. As for audience anticipation beforehand though, I'm not sure.
The film currently stands a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. Zootopia is an automatic winner for Best Animation Feature, Best Picture? That happens and I'll scream.
+Drew The Conqueror of Worlds I think we can all agree that this movie will be up for top 10 list of 2016 combined maybe top 5, this film was also a wake up call to me personally with in the States and the election.
Best Animated Feature: Definitely, unless Moana is beyond perfect too Best Feature: Sadly not, after Inside Out not even being nominated this year, I doubt this will :(
My scores: The story: 9/10 (It has amazing concepts with the city of Zootopia itself and how it functions as well as thought-provoking themes of racism and stereotyping. Despite dealing with such deep ideas it still manages to be a very fun film with great humor. The only complaint I have is that the villain doesn't seem to have any backstory explaining why she did what she did.) The Animation: 10/10 (In my opinion this is the most visually appealing film I have ever seen. The designs of the city are very interesting and well thought out, the character designs mix stylization with their real life counterparts perfectly, the textures are fantastic, the movements of the characters are extremely well-done and I love the way that they still move a bit like real animals.) The characters: 10/10 (Every character has a purpose in the film and helps deliver its message. They are all loveable, memorable and easy to root for.) Overall: 10/10 (Masterpiece)
I would actually give "Characters" a 9. The only reason I took 1 point off was because I did think that the film's main villain(Bellwether) could have been fleshed out more. I would have LOVED to see her get a similar backstory like Judy and Nick got, and why she REALLY wanted predators out of Zootopia, and WHY she used the Night Howlers to harm the innocent predators. But then again, that could just be me nitpicking.
@@tristanmichels5721 < I would have LOVED to see her get a similar backstory like Judy and Nick got, and why she REALLY wanted predators out of Zootopia, and WHY she used the Night Howlers to harm the innocent predators. I'm sure there's a fanfic and/or comic somewhere on the internet. *Can't be any worse than the pro-choice disasterpiece I Will Survive or the fanfic version of The Violet Diaries where Judy's parents were so racist (or speciesist) against Nick that she disinherited herself and moved in with his mom.*
Zootopia would simply be a "good" film because of its fleshed out chargers, well though out scenery, and agile storytelling, but it is the theme and cultural relevance in this movie is what makes it when of the best film I have ever seen. I had no idea how it was going to dive into such a serious topic and pull it off with a finesse that you don't find in much adult films. Zootopia is not just a kid film, it is purely a family film in which eveyone from 9-90 needs to watch and enjoy. I remember when we were in the theaters and all these little kids were there just chattering and talking, but the moment the movie start they all went silent, and if you know how hard it is to make small children quiet, you'll celebrate this movie as well.
Story 10/10 (Top Notch Writing) Animation 10/10 (Not as good as big hero 6 but still amazing!) Characters 8/10 (Unforgetable) Zootopia 9/10 (Fantastic)
I just hope this doesn't end up like Frozen that people start hating it for the sake of hating it. Not saying people can't hate it for good reason, but people do hate other movies for bad reasons.
+Zachary Campagna Frozen was a pretty nice film that got hype because it's lovable. Kids ate it like cereal. Movies like Shrek and Toy Story are also very popular, but no one gets mad at that because they were films that were considered amazing.
+Zachary Campagna I think the thing with Frozen is that is was hateable for a lot of different reasons, depending on who you ask, but this movie doesn't seem to have a lot of flaws that so many different people can pick at. Just a thought :P I could be wrong
iCoNiC-Gaming Yeah, but the people who hate Frozen... REALLY hate it. I mean, they use every excuse in the book to bash it. Even throwing a fit over their merchandise.
Zachary Campagna True, but like I said, Frozen had so many traits that made it bait for popularity. It's like the Oscar-bait of children's animation; it's a musical, admittedly great animation, pretty princess dresses and powers, that one character that makes the movie ten times funnier, etc. This movie has a very good message that is played amazingly well, and it's dialogue is *VERY* matured and smart. Seriously, the screenplay/writing for this film is breathtaking. I highly doubt this movie will be hated as much as Frozen had.
+Zachary Campagna I doubt it. People hate frozen because it got overblown, all the little girls loved the wrong character (Anna is the main character and princess, Elsa is a queen who only makes Anna's life miserable), and you still can't escape "Let It Go" and all subsequent toys 3 years and 2 movies later. Zootopia is more of a movie for teens and adults, with WAY more to offer than "a fresh take on the princess story and true love." People are also going to like Judy (the main character) more than Bogo (the character whose job is to make Judy's life miserable). There's also no songs to be played so many times you get sick of it, and I don't think there's going to be many many toys to be made out of this. Zootopia will most likely be one of the most under-appreciated movie of this Disney generation (at least from Disney marketing) because it appeals to older audiences far more than children, and thus it will be held in high regard like Lion King.
I WAS SO HAPPY WHEN YOU GAVE THIS FILM THE ANIMAT SEAL OF APPROVAL AND A 10/10 ZOOTOPIA HAS BECOME ONE OF MY FAVORITE ANIMATED DISNEY FILMS OF ALL TIME AND SOME OF MY FAVORITE ANIMATED FILMS OF ALL TIME!!! I HOPE THAT THIS WINS THE ACADEMY AWARD FOR BEST ANIMATED FEATURE!! IT WILL BE AS TRIUMPHANT AS LEONARDO DICAPRIO WINNING HIS FIRST OSCAR!!
As much as I love Frozen, after watching this film a 2nd time (Loved it the 1st time), I'm starting to love this film a lot more than Frozen. Unlike Frozen, Zootopia offers a much more powerful, and more realistic message. Not saying the message in Frozen was bad, it was good, but it wasn't the main focus of the film IMO. This is easily disneys best animated film since Frozen. Very good buddy-cop story, powerful message, which makes some scenes more powerful, lovable characters, and beautiful animation that appeals to everyone. It's definitely close to being one of my top 10 favourite disney animated films. It's that good! Now... is this film going to go through the same pattern like Inside Out and Frozen in terms of getting hate after a couple weeks or so after its release because of the praise and popularity it's getting? Possibly yes, knowing the pattern of the internet!
I think Frozen gets more hate from Let It Go being overplayed because popularity can play in many movie's hate. This film Definitely deserved his approval seal! Like how long has it been since the last seal of approval? Maybe this is a stretch but I view Zootopia for animated films like many music fans view Kendrick Lamar for rap. Both are pieces of media that can help their respective genres gain more respect after so many pitfalls.
+RanserSSF4 There are some that says that Zootopia is the animated version of the movie Crash which has the same themes and it might end up like what Crash did in years to come. I certainly hope it won't. And there are others that said the reason why it's getting all the praise is because of timing. Which I disagree. Straight Outa Compton came out when Ferguson was still fresh in our memories and it's still praised as a great film.
I think Frozen is a really great movie but, Zootopia is is definitely even better. I can only hope this movie receives fhe popularity that Frozen did. (Actually, NO I REGRET THAT STATEMENT)
+Kinaibhlan Ya, while I do like those Pixar films, I do agree that Disney is getting a lot better. But when it comes to Pixar, Finding Dory looks amazing.
I find ironic how I saw mostly people thinking that this was going to be either 'ok' or 'meh' while Moana would be the big star for Disney in 2016. If the roles end being reversed I'll laugh so hard, Zootopia already proved to be more than what most people expected!
Indeed. It's the Disney Renaissance all over again. Tangled and Wreck-it Ralph would be like the Little Mermaid (or if you want to be more specific, just Tangled), Frozen would be like the 'Beauty and the Beast', and Big Hero 6 would be like Aladdin. I hope this doesn't happen and Moana turns out to be a great movie, but if this predictions ends up happening I'll laugh
I'd like to think of Zootopia as the "Lion King" of this generation. Like Animat, many people thought that this was one of Disney's smaller side projects while the studio would put more focus on Moana. Now, a lot of us find Zootopia as one of Disney's absolute BEST films. Here's hoping that Moana doesn't end up like Pocahontas...
Well, this one already got a perfect 30/30, and if Finding Dory is actually outstanding (while I expect it to be at best decent after seeing the just okay trailer on March 11), I expect it to get anywhere from a 26-29/30. We all know that unless it's Toy Story (for now), Pixar sequels are at best great (Monsters University) and at worst horrible (Cars 2).
+Sara Samaletdin Yes I'm saying they got the story 10/10, animation 10/10, & characters 10/10. There the only 2 films to earned from Mat. But to answer your question not any other then those 2 films
You know a film is going to have solid writing as well as great jokes with Rich Moore as one of it's directors. After all, he did write and direct for The Simpsons (back when it was good and watchable) and Futurama.
+Calebite It did what it needed to do fine. It was a message about prejudice with animals as a stand in. It was general and universal enough that it didn't really need to be more subtle.
I'm so happy so many people love this movie! It blew away my expectations as well - from the early trailers, I wasn't planning to see it. But Zootopia went way and beyond, ecelling in animation, story, and message! I never thought something like Disney would comment on bigotry and prejudice - but all together it's quite well done!
I'm so glad SOMEONE ELSE noticed the worrying trend of surprise twist villains in these new Disney movies. In my opinion, it worked really well in Wreck-it Ralph, but I think could have been far better handled in every subsequent film since. It kinda bothers me that it's been a "thing" for every single Disney film in the past 4 years.
One thing that strikes me is just how different it is from what Disney usually makes. Disney usually makes pretty general stories but this is highly specialized. I think they might have made it with bronies in mind as it has quite a few of those elements. It's clearly made for adolescents.
Honestly I felt a little disappointed after seeing this film. Not terribly but when a film gets such universal praise it sets the hopes a little high. For the first 2/3rds of this film the message felt very preachy, heavy-handed and too simplistic and I was ready to write off Judy Hopps as a Mary Sue title character. It wasn't until the final third that I felt it fully realized its scope and explored the deepness of its message and the multiple facets to Judy as well. Nick was a great character from beginning to end for sure and there's nothing really bad to be said of the animation but I can't call this film a 10/10 when I felt it have such a rocky start. It gets a 7/10 for me but if we're just judging the final 3rd then 10/10 it is.
+Jewell TH Mary Sue admittedly has become a subjective term, some use it to mean "overly perfect" like you seem to. I mean it more as "self-insert." i.e. She has a dream people discourage, she's valedictorian but still gets bad work assignments, she impresses certain people but is still looked down upon by the characters that control plot points, etc. etc. Judy's personality is much more tied to the moral than an actual fully fleshed out character, and again everything about the moral and message is way to heavy handed in this film. Like I said I find everything about this movie including Judy got better in the final third. If you find her inspiring then thats fine, let her inspire you to do good things, I just didn't find her compelling enough for a perfect score.
So far this year we had A Outstanding Animated Feature That Captures The World And The Struggles Along With It With A Perfect Cast Of Characters And Is One Of The Best Animated Features In History A Wonderful Animated Film That Have Some Flaws In The Story But Overall Has Great Humor,Outstanding Animation And Fight Scenes, And A Lovable Cast of Characters. And OH GOD NO IT'S BURNING MY EYES AHHH MY EARS THERE BLEEDING FROM FART AND TOILET HUMOR PUT IT AWAY PUT IT AWAY!!!!!!!!
Applied to 2015: (In order of quality) Inside Out, The Peanuts Movie, and Strange Magic. Applied to 2016: (Still in order of quality) Zootopia, Kung Fu Panda 3, and Norm of the North.
A background designer from Disney came and talked to my university about the movie. Apparently they used an entirely different 3d software that allowed them to completely build out the cities and locations in the movie, rather than painting backgrounds. And holy hell it seriously shows
Story: 9/10 Animation: 10/10 Chatacters: 9/10 9/10 (With the AniMat Seal of Aproval) Little Critic: With a great animation, funny characters and a good StoryZootopia makes not only the best actual Disney movie, it makes the best animated film of this year.
This is one of my favourite animated films ever. I'm not even exaggerating - this movie was fantastic! I was honestly surprised how good this movie was, which I thought it looked okay, but I was completely wrong. It's so rare of me to give a film a rating so high, but my personal rating would be - a 9.2/10. Btw, I've watched this film so many times, I have lost count XD
Is this the first time he's ever given a perfect 10 across the board? I don't know but this movie TOTALLY deserves it. It's not often I watch a movie that I'd happily and purposely watch multiple times in theaters, but this one is one of those movies.
I can't quite explain how this movie made me feel. This is the best kind of movie. It was not only one of the best animated movies I've seen in AGES, but was something I was expecting to be just pretty good, like Animat said. That kind of surprise comes around only a few times a decade, if that. Also, I'm so glad they didn't spoil the full ride into the city in trailers, because that sequence blew my mind.
Remember in his lighting round for his 2015 year end lists when he was going through all the 2016 upcoming features? This is what his first thought was: "Maybe it will be good for a laugh" Now months later, Mat finds the film exceeded what he originally thought and we see his approval seal return!
I like Zootopia better than Tangled, Wreck it Ralph, Frozen and Big Hero Six. It wasn't too big on the laughs nor did it have any songs (except Shakira's magnificent one of course) but honestly? I didn't care. The clever writing and risks they took in this film surprised the heck out of me but in a good way. The animation was absolutely gorgeous (the textures in the fur and facial expressions really caught my eye) the characters were all likable and cute (my favorite one being Nick), the emotional moments hit me harder than any of the recent Disney films (mainly Nick's backstory and that heavy scene that takes place right after Judy talks to news reporters which I won't spoil) and the overall message and theme of the film. Zootopia may just be my favorite Disney movie.
i am SOOOO happy this movie won an Oscar! not only was it perfectly animated, but it was the smartest movie I saw in 2016, with a message I absolutely adore!
Why is this coming out in 2 weeks in the UK, WHYYYYYYYY ;-; *Sees Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice coming out the same day* ... *Sighs and gets ready for a double feature at my local cinema*
What I found interesting is, that Nick actually never wanted to be a con artist, he wanted to be something honorable. Because of stereotyping and prejudice he was forced into a life of crimes and tricks. Like, society expected him to be a con artist and nothing more. Even when he helped out Judy Chief Bogo himself called him "Fox", like that is all that you need to know about him as an explanation to whats going on. The really interesting part though? When I first saw the trailer, it was no different with my own reaction. I immediately though: This fox is so the typical con-artist fox character.....
"This movie was timed so perfectly during the 2016 US presidential elections when some candidates were using fear and prejudice..." (fades in a background of Donald Trump). Speaking of fear and prejudice: Do you recall when Hillary Clinton stated that she would put coal miners out of business under the basis that coal mining would destroy the world?
Seriously AniMat,I've Saw This Movie,& This Is Just Not Only One Of My Favorite Disney Movies Or One Of My Favorite Movies & Animated Features,But It's Also My Favorite Film Of 2016 & Yes,It Really Does Deserve A Perfect Score With An Ultimate 10/10,Just Like You Did!
Animat, You were ABSOLUTELY right about this whole movie! I already saw it and it was...AWESOME!!! The animation is beautiful, smooth and lifelike to look at!!! The BEST animation Disney could ever come up with! Every one of the characters are likeable and memorable!!! The story itself is like nothing I've ever seen!!! I was so excited to see it and I am glad I did!!! I even danced at the ending!!! Disney had the actual balls to go in and talk about Prejudice and Discrimination with no hesitation! That shows how strong they are as an animation studio. They definitely improved from Chicken Little.
this movie was so out of nowhere for me it just looked so generic from the marketing that I almost passed over it, good thing I decided to "Try everything"
Looks boring, and as for Sing well...........also looks boring unless you want to see Zootopia 2:American idol. So this is definitely not Illumination's year.
+Batter I'm personally excited for "Sing" (in my opinion) and "The Secret Life of Pets". I think both will be better than "ZOOTOPIA", which I thought was overrated.
I hope this incredible movie can be #1 and overtake Frozen's place. Without the okay song of Let It Go, the movie would only be decent, with the song it's good. My opinion okay, I don't want to get raped by fanboys and fangirls.
I still regard Chicken Little as one of Disney's worse animated films. It's bad from a historical point. You know the mid 2000s were the worst period for Disney films. It only had Pixar to rely on to keep the company up. It's an example of how bad Disney was during the mid-2000s.
Frankie Reese The mid 2000's were a dark time for Disney in general. 2004's Home On The Range was their last 2D film till 2009's The Princess And The Frog and their shift towards more teen oriented pop garbage than animation caused them to almost lose their ways.
I very much want to see this movie. The first time I saw some promo material for it I was worried it was basically just going to be a kinda... pander to the furries deal rather than try to be something amazing. I'm so glad it raised the bar because its really been years since I've seen a Disney movie come out that really seem to be something special rather than the same "here's some more Disney princesses so we can sell toys!"thing.
At 0:57, i was completely shock!!! Bcuz i was wearing headphones right now and he suddenly scream, but i didnt see the poster actually or why he is screaming bcuz im more focus on the scene on Zootopia, rather than any edge of the video.
So how long do you think it would be before it becomes hip to hate this movie because it's popular and being accused of being furry/sjw/feminist propaganda?
I expected AniMat to give the movie at least an 8 or 9, but once the results came in.... Thank you AniMat! This movie, for me, is my Inside Out, a movie that only did I anticipate, but got more than I expected, even more so when I said "I want to get the Blu-Ray the moment it comes!" ....now I fear that Pixar will get next year's Oscar for Best Animated for Finding Dory... Pixar, if you're reading this, let Disney win this one!
Great review of a great film! This year has been a pretty impressive year for animated films (I've seen "Finding Dory", and even though it's not as good as "Finding Nemo", it's still a decent follow-up, and although "The Secret Life of Pets" is not as good as "Zootopia", it's still another solid and entertaining animated film from one of my favorite animation companies, Illumination Entertainment). Now to look forward to "Kubo and the Two Strings", "Moana", and "Sing".
This was also my favorite movie! I'm so obsessed with it. I saw it 6 times while it was in theaters alone not to mention how many times I've seen it on dvd
this is a very very good movie, but as animat said, it might be more of an adult movie than a kids movie becouse it has no songs in it exept for shakira's song, its complicated story, sometimes dark tone and message. however, its done perfect and is also one of my favorites now!
Yesterday I saw this movie and Batman vs Superman. Out of the two this was the better movie. I loved the animation, the characters, and the story. I didn't have high expectations about this movie. Zootopia exceeded them, this movie is a must see. It is a movie that provides social commentary on what is happening in our society right now. Which is what I loved most about the movie.
+Ikrani Let me tell you sir that this is FAR from an ordinary animated movie. The social commentary is just one of the great things Zootopia has to offer.
+Ikrani - A very deep and thoughtful story - Perfect voice cast - GORGEOUS animation - Clever adult humor and references I'd go into more detail, but I don't want to spoil anything.
+Ikrani No, I have more points, but I'm just saying I highly recommend Zootopia. The choice is yours. (I do agree with you on Tim Curry, he's a terrific actor)
+Ikrani Whether or not you go to see Zootopia that is your choice. I happen to think it is a great film. The social commentary that is in the movie mirrors what is happening in our society right now. Disney did it in such a way that it was subtle and it wasn't preachy. However, that is just one part of what makes the film great. If you notice in my comment I also said that I loved the story, the animation, and the characters.
I loved this movie, I give it a 100/100 ! The story, The Message , The Animation , The style! EVERYTHING IS WHAT I DREAMT A GOOD DISNEY MOVIE WOULD BE! Lets face it, as adults we loved the classics like lion king or robin hood simply because they played a big part in our childhood. But THIS, this is something i'd also be proud to be apart of my childhood. I recommend going to see this movie. It'll probably change the way you see things around you...
I absolutely ADORE this film. I went in thinking, "Hey, this looks great from the trailers! This'll be a fun 2 hours," and came out of it with my mind blown. It surpassed my expectations in ways that I couldn't even imagine.
Nefariouss Ness I saw the trailers and knew I would want to see it but went in not having any expectations which was what made me love it so much.
In the words of Walt Disney "I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing. That it was all started by a mouse." Walt would have been proud of this film.
Or a rabbit in this case

***** I thought Home of the Range is the worst, that movie killed off traditional animation for the most part.

ToonYoshiGame Dear lord,it's a never ending cycle!!!!
wow. Disney surely learnt from its mistakes with Chicken Little.
Yeah. They definitely did.
Merete Nora NO SHUT UP THAT MOVIE NEVER EXISTED!
I mean they've made several great movies since Chicken Little...
@@jordanseal9516 That part cracked me up.
What’s chicken little??????
LOL! I loved the Chicken Little "That doesn't exist" thing. Honestly, I was thinking that "This looks better then chicken little" going in. and it was aweseome IMO.
That made me jump!
Wow Jedi Well, thing that went wrong with Chicken Little was Disney thought the way to make a CGI movie was to just use CGI instead of any actual story characters or likability.
Martin Gray CHICKEN LITTLE SUCKS!!!!!!!
0:57 "NO, SHUT UP! THAT MOVIE DOESN'T EXIST!"
My thoughts exactly. Screw "Chicken Little." No offense to anyone who likes it, but that movie sucks.
Or even Moana...
+Rob Bob I think it surpasses The LEGO Movie actually.
Inkwell Presents: Inkwell! I don't think so personally. But it's fine.
+Rob Bob I agree. It feels even better to watch a movie you expect little from and be blown away than it does to just see a movie that you expect greatness from (like Pixar's movies a few years until the recent loss of consistency)
Hell yes, we do!
+Jc MacQuarrie Animals winning? Seems legit.
Hopefully, both would be good.
+Josh Campbell Yeah, the studio assigned the "B-team" to The Lion King while the main animation team worked on Pocahontas. As for audience anticipation beforehand though, I'm not sure.
might?
Moana was quite good. But Zootopia is whole another level.
Disney needs to build a Zootopia in their DisneyLand Parks.
That would be awesome
Yes. Please!

My scores:
The story: 9/10 (It has amazing concepts with the city of Zootopia itself and how it functions as well as thought-provoking themes of racism and stereotyping. Despite dealing with such deep ideas it still manages to be a very fun film with great humor. The only complaint I have is that the villain doesn't seem to have any backstory explaining why she did what she did.)
The Animation: 10/10 (In my opinion this is the most visually appealing film I have ever seen. The designs of the city are very interesting and well thought out, the character designs mix stylization with their real life counterparts perfectly, the textures are fantastic, the movements of the characters are extremely well-done and I love the way that they still move a bit like real animals.)
The characters: 10/10 (Every character has a purpose in the film and helps deliver its message. They are all loveable, memorable and easy to root for.)
Overall: 10/10 (Masterpiece)
She was always looked down by the predators, that's why she did it.
and was always picked on/used by the mayor.
Silvia's Reviews She always felt neglected by the mayor who was a predator
*Can't be any worse than the pro-choice disasterpiece I Will Survive or the fanfic version of The Violet Diaries where Judy's parents were so racist (or speciesist) against Nick that she disinherited herself and moved in with his mom.*
ok...Nick has GOT to be the descendant of Robin hood....they are both foxes, both wear green....both say they don't steal...
I remember the director saying the Disney's Robin Hood had a huge influence on the movie, wouldn't be surprised.
Which director? This movie had more than 1.

The Chicken Little poster at 0:57 literally made me laugh out loud. I completely agree with your review!
So if I'm 91 that means I can't watch it?

Zootopia and the surrounding areas encompass an entire continent - your argument is invalid.
+Zachary Campagna
I think the thing with Frozen is that is was hateable for a lot of different reasons, depending on who you ask, but this movie doesn't seem to have a lot of flaws that so many different people can pick at.
+bear bros haha. Lol
I love How Nick and Judy become really close friends. It's really cute, and fluffy.
Chicken Little has a human ( Indiana Jones ) so it dosent count :P
+RanserSSF4 I know this may be a stretch but I think it's the best Disney film since Lilo and Stitch.

+Kinaibhlan Right, I really really liked up, and Cars was good, but not Pixar good. Cars 2 on the other hand, I really liked that.
The look on the rabbit's face after you swat away Chicken Little and say it doesn't exist! PRICELESS!
I find ironic how I saw mostly people thinking that this was going to be either 'ok' or 'meh' while Moana would be the big star for Disney in 2016.
If the roles end being reversed I'll laugh so hard, Zootopia already proved to be more than what most people expected!
+Yuki Kartagos It would be The Lion King vs. Pocahontas all over again.
Moana looks like piss tbh. It looks like every Disney princess movie ever.
This is the first ever animated film from the Disney library (excluding Pixar) to get a perfect score. Truly a milestone here.
+DaCableGuy Completely agree.
I don't think it will be sicne 2 famous disney directors are behind the film!
Okay, now I want a classic review of Chicken Little.
+AT Productions What do you mean by that?
+KJ Broadway It's a joke. Because that movie was terrible.
+AT Productions SSSS.... BURN!
Did anyone else think that this would be #1 in AniMat's Top 5 Best Animated Features of 2016?
+datautisticgamer depends on how good Finding Dory is ;)
Well, this one already got a perfect 30/30, and if Finding Dory is actually outstanding (while I expect it to be at best decent after seeing the just okay trailer on March 11), I expect it to get anywhere from a 26-29/30. We all know that unless it's Toy Story (for now), Pixar sequels are at best great (Monsters University) and at worst horrible (Cars 2).
SourceCy I also think that, after seeing Zootopia, Pixar is entering their own Dark Age, while Disney is in a Second Renaissance.
I'd bet my money on it

YAY ANIMAT!!!! You didn't disappoint me! This movie REALLY is THAT GOOD!!!!
You know a film is going to have solid writing as well as great jokes with Rich Moore as one of it's directors. After all, he did write and direct for The Simpsons (back when it was good and watchable) and Futurama.
It was decently written, but it could have used some more subtlety.
+Calebite It did what it needed to do fine. It was a message about prejudice with animals as a stand in. It was general and universal enough that it didn't really need to be more subtle.
For The Simpsons, did anyone but me get reminded of Nelson Muntz based on seeing young Gideon?
A 10/10?
My god, I have to see this movie.
I personally think this is better than Frozen
It's a FACT that Zootopia is better than Frozen.

+Mariam Olokodana I know it's an opinion, it's just an expression.
+Mariam Olokodana Ah, I see.
This movie is so awesome. It's now one of my favourite movies in general and in the animation genre it's definitely my number 1 ^_^
So far this year we had
A Outstanding Animated Feature That Captures The World And The Struggles Along With It With A Perfect Cast Of Characters And Is One Of The Best Animated Features In History

Strange Magic was still the worst animated feature of 2015 nonetheless.

20 out of 10. You nail all the points that make this movie so AMAZINGLY GOOD! I'm getting it on DVD the moment it releases.
A background designer from Disney came and talked to my university about the movie. Apparently they used an entirely different 3d software that allowed them to completely build out the cities and locations in the movie, rather than painting backgrounds. And holy hell it seriously shows

WOW, I'm Impress, We Got Ourselfs the number 1 Best Animated film of 2016
Perfect score Animat, it's just flawless, can't wait to see the movie when it comes out in my country.
Is this the first time he's ever given a perfect 10 across the board? I don't know but this movie TOTALLY deserves it. It's not often I watch a movie that I'd happily and purposely watch multiple times in theaters, but this one is one of those movies.
He also gave Toy Story 3 all 10s.
This is what his first thought was:
"Maybe it will be good for a laugh"
Now months later, Mat finds the film exceeded what he originally thought and we see his approval seal return!
I almost thought Estelle sang that song. Not only is it similar to Conquerer, but... Gazelle... Estelle... they missed out...
i am SOOOO happy this movie won an Oscar! not only was it perfectly animated, but it was the smartest movie I saw in 2016, with a message I absolutely adore!

I'm pretty sure it's the advance of technology that's doing that.
If this movie doesn't get the Oscar, we riot.
ToonYoshiGame FUCK YEH
Gee, I wonder who wins this next year's oscars. Don't get me wrong, Finding Dory is great but it does not reach the same level as what Zootopia is.
Yes, otherwise you would've missed out on this amazing movie
Can't say the same for Secret Life of Pets.
Well I have a feeling someone will have Animat review Chicken Little as a Patreon Request.
It's bad but it's far from the worst. Animation is its best detail.
Backgrounds yes. Character animation.... bad.
For 2005 and for Disney's 1st CGI film not by Pixar, they made it look nice but story and characters needed work
I still regard Chicken Little as one of Disney's worse animated films.
I kinda wish they went to the desert area.
I think they went there to visit yax.
At 0:57, i was completely shock!!! Bcuz i was wearing headphones right now and he suddenly scream, but i didnt see the poster actually or why he is screaming bcuz im more focus on the scene on Zootopia, rather than any edge of the video.
Already saw it twice and plan on more.
This is one of the best Disney animated features of all time
So how long do you think it would be before it becomes hip to hate this movie because it's popular and being accused of being furry/sjw/feminist propaganda?
What is the "10 outta 10" voice clip from? I like it.
Last time this happened with Brave and Wreck it Ralph, the clearly better Disney film lost out. Let's hope Disney takes it this year.
Then it all plummeted down with Sausage Party and Trolls.
this is my favorite movie! I completely agree with ur review!
+Ikrani
- A very deep and thoughtful story
- Perfect voice cast
- GORGEOUS animation
- Clever adult humor and references
I'd go into more detail, but I don't want to spoil anything.
Did anyone else catch the Breaking Bad reference?
+Scrubman lowell
I thought it wasBreaking Ba-a-a-a-a-ad?
+Scrubman lowell I totally got the reference. And it's a good thing I started watching 'Breaking Bad' or else I never would've gotten it.
+Will Carroll Gotta call Jesse and Wool-ter.
Yes
No, but U caught a Steven Universe reference.
I'm glad that people love this film as much as i did,but i don't want the same things happen like frozen all over again.
Hopefully Norm of the North sucked out all the bad of animation this year, and everything else is as good as this and KFP3
Trolls is being released in November. But everything else actually looks pretty good.
+misterepicpants yo the trailer didn't represent the movie well
Technically, Zootopia is the first 3D Animated Disney film with a full cast of animals since Chicken Little had aliens in it.
