Prince’s business decisions regarding his live concert career were impeccable. In addition to things mentioned…putting tickets on sale just a few days before the show was an incredible innovation…his residency gigs in London & LA & Las Vegas were unique…the after shows…he knew his brand was built on his mystique & he used it over & over.

Anybody else in the universe would’ve been a cakewalk, Prince would’ve been the most nerve-racking artist to work with knowing how he was with perfection and not wasting time. So God bless Bill. 'She's Always in My Hair' is one of my all time favorite Prince Jams. the funny thing, 'She's Always in My Hair' was written for Jill Jones (who was his off/on girl). She hated the song, because she didn't like some of the lyrics..."Maybe I'll Marry Her, Maybe I Won't".
Love hearing and seeing Bill Jackson and Peggy Mac on these session talk shows. They're so laid back, and unpretentious, despite the fact they worked with so many famous musicians. Respect.
Interesting interview. Prince was the greatest of all time. The Prince Mount Rushmore of albums. Dirty Mind is the most significant. 1999 was the most innovative. Purple Rain was the most successful. Sign 'O The Times was the greatest. Truly incomparable.
People neglect Controversy and it really bothers me. It's the bridge between the rawness of Dirty Mind and the sophistication of 1999. Plus it features one of his top slow jams of all time. Do Me Baby

The Rolls Royce was teal in color and in 1987 when we were at Sunset mixing the movie soundtrack for Sign O’ The Times, Gilbert and I would take the Rolls to Greenblatt’s deli to get chicken soup for Prince 😀

The Time is a trio: P, Jess, and Morris - it's well documented. That should be corrected. Morris is also drums on most cuts on all three albums - you can hear him. That should be cleared-up.

I was born and raised in Paris, France. The 12” I have of “Jungle Love” has “Tricky” as the B-side so I guess I wasn’t completely wrong but I should have been more specific.
I read somewhere that "Doves Cry" was inspired by "The Edge Of 17" by Fleetwood Mack, hence the lyrics (just like the one winged dove.. ) This may explain the title for its B-Side, "17 days". Just thought about that as I'm watching this video.

Although I should have specified they weren’t officially widely known as the Mary Jane Girls yet, they were backing Rick James since 1979. Prince was VERY aware of the Waters sisters. When Vanity 6 came out in 82, Rick pushed Motown to sign the girls and would later release their first album within a year. But they had been around since ‘79. Sorry if I wasn’t clear enough.

I'm not sure that the When Doves Cry story is true. Peggy Mccreary engineered that session which was a continuous 72 hour session, and according to her, at the end of it Prince started pulling parts out, or as she put it, unproducing it. The last thing he did was remove the bass line.

Sounds utterly awful to work with him 😂 In terms of takes. It’s wrong to assume less takes equals a higher standard of work. Take the film industry for example; David Fincher will film up 100 takes, with tiny variations, whereas, Ridley Scott rarely goes beyond 1 or 2 takes - it’s really down to your preference NOT quality.

Rick's backup singers were called The Colored Girls. Rick claimed in his book that Prince stole his idea to put out a girl group

I really wish they edited me out too 😂 but in all fairness I was not supposed to be on the podcast, was there in the middle of a big project (to be announced) and was asked to sit in for 30 minutes. I made sure haven’t the puppy was ok, and couldn’t ignore all the messages regarding said project. Sorry it offended you but it definitely didn’t offend Bill. We had a good time.

Sounds utterly awful to work with him 😂 In terms of takes. It’s wrong to assume less takes equals a higher standard of work. Take the film industry for example; David Fincher will film up 100 takes, with tiny variations, whereas, Ridley Scott rarely goes beyond 1 or 2 takes - it’s really down to your preference NOT quality.
