Yes I'm sure u can but I would keep in the ground almonds as it gives such a lovely taste! I love it in lemon cake😋 also use plain flour as there is no rising agents in this recipe apart from eggs

Maaike Uijthoven in that case any other chocolate cake will do. It's not about the gluten (unless you're allergic or intolerante), the polenta and the ground almonds give the cake an interesting texture.
What can i use instead of ground almonds? I've wanted to make a similar orange polenta cake before but it also had ground almonds. If i just substituted them for flour the texture wouldn't be right. I can't imagine rice flour would be much better...

If you can get it, GF oat flour (or oats blended into a flour) would probably work well - it's good at keeping cakes moist. Otherwise (not sure where you are) you could probably just substitute in a GF flour blend.

BELITEGA im sure you'll have some skinned sliced almonds, just put those in the food processer. Or soak some almonds in water for 24 hours then skin them, then grind em' up

I would guess the answer to be no, however: with using almond and polenta is there any worry of overworking the batter and creating a tough chew instead of the fudge like texture. Also I would have thought that adding a coffee accent would have brought out the chocolate more is there a reason that you did not do this?
I reckon you'd be right that it wouldn't get tough, as there's no gluten in the batter. From the recipe, no liquid is added to the batter itself (aside from the eggs) and with a 150g of dark chocolate in there already so I'd hazard that it probably isn't necessary to add instant espresso/coffee powder too. It would be interesting to see if there was a difference though.
If you're after an alternative, why not try fruit? Fresh berries or a berry sauce/compote would go really well with this cake. In the colder months you could use something like some sliced orange instead :).
two questions please.... 1. can this cake be cut and then frozen. and 2. can it be scaled down for single servings? I am attempting to make all of my recipes that i love down to 1 serving recipes.
